good pizza, great selection of beer...always something new to try either on tap or from the bottle. 2 floors with different taps on each. they host events several times monthly, usually a seasonal beer, beer dinner or cask release. it would be nice if they kept a better updated website with more info on their events though. prices can be a bit high, but for the more expensive, higher ABV brews they usually offer a smaller serving, which is nice. i've found the service can be hit or miss, but they are always pretty knowledgable. best place for beer in greenville, though, without question.

One of the best beer lists I have seen at a restaurant. They won some kind of national award that was presented by Stone. I don't know the details, but it sounds pretty impressive for a restaurant in Greenville, SC. They were named "Most Arrogant Bar" They must be doing something right.
I am assuming this location is a franchise of the Barley's in Asheville, NC. I think Greenville has the better of the two.
While scoping out the joint, I notice some obnoxious amounts of rare beer above the bar. The 20 six-packs of Bell's Batch X,000 , and about 24 bottles of DFH WWS stood out to me.
The server reassured me that they were indeed unopened after I expressed doubt, then she informed me they were not for sale. Apparently the owner is a showboat. I would rather you not display your beer cellar if you do not entertain offers.
I'll be back though, great place.

After countless trips to Greenville, finally made it a point to stop by here with the family. We went for lunch, so I didn't get as great an opportunity to "explore" their beer choices. My wife and I each got a slice, and what a slice it was! These are monster slices so I was happy about that. I also got their chili, which was highly recommended to me, and it was good. Their tap list was great, a list any restaurant would be proud to have. Good number of bottles as well. They have a "cellar" full of all sorts of vintage ales which is a really nice option. Above the bar was a good number of what they had available. The notable ones that jumped off to me were Batch 9,000, Batch 10,000 and KBS. Not sure the year of the KBS, but does it really matter? I'm sure you pay a premium for those options among others, but it's nice to have the option to snag some highly rated beer. I've been in the upstairs before to play pool, but didn't venture up there this time. All-in-all, this is a great place to stop for some good food, and excellent beer.

After visiting Greenville for the last ten years or so, finally got to check this place out, it may be in greenvilles beer Mecca block, with gbx behind it and the trappe door next door.
About a 20 minute wait at 7 on a Friday however we chose to sit at the big bar. It was a little cramped as they tried to squeeze a few more tables in than they prob should. Very extensive beer menu in both bottle and on draft. They also have a reserve list of aged beers.
We got two beers a piece an appitzer and the lady got a calzone, and I ordered a slice of pizza. The pizza slice was big enough for a small meal. Total was about 35 bucks.
Had a good conversation with the bar tender, she was fairly new only worked there a few months, but was pretty beer knowledgable and actually suggested I not try a beer because it was meh.
Didn't have a chance to check out the bar upstairs but will on the next trip.

Really like this place. Lived in Greenville a while before I appreciated good beer. It took coming back to visit on a regular basis for me to realize what I'd been missing. Taps are always primo and at the right temperature for each beer served. Bottle selection is great and includes several vintages for a variety of bottles. Bartenders are knowledgable and quick with a recommendation. Food is decent with great vegetarian and vegan options. Wait staff is efficient and friendly. They also offer a good number of classes or visiting brewer events. Sister restasurant Trappe Door is just a few steps away.

Barley's, what can you say. If you are in G'Vegas you have to stop by. Very cool atmosphere in an old store/warehouse, great exposed brick. Excellent beer selection with different brews on tap both downstairs and up. Beer selection ranges from across the U.S. as well as the world, although I like to focus on the Southern brews. Bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable and offer good recommendations. Upstairs is great at opening time before it gets too busy, darts, pool you name it. One of the many reasons Greenville is great.

Barley's was the first good beer establishment that I visited after moving to Greenville four years ago.

Actually, good is a little of an understatement, the beer selection is fantastic and is every bit as good if not better than the excellent beer establishments that I frequented in the much larger Pittsburgh metro area. When friends from home come to visit I take them here to show them that Greenville is a little more sophisticated (from a beer perspective, anyway) than they may have thought.

The prices for their beers are quite reasonable and the servers are knowledgeable about their products. They can often offer you to a good recommendation if you tell them what type of beer you're in the mood for.

The atmosphere is above average. Lots of exposed old bricks and wooden beams. High ceilings. The building is an old warehouse of some sort with a pretty interesting history. Supposedly, the street that runs between the restaurant and the bus depot across the way used to be notorious for the prostitutes of Greenville in the late 19th and early 20th century.

You can usually get a table with no problem, there is a ton of seating and the place sometimes seems empty during weekdays because of the amount of tables that they have, but it does fill up nicely on Friday and Saturday evenings, and, as others had posted, the place can be pretty loud.

The upstairs houses another bar with its own unique selection of beer that you can only order when you are up there. The upstairs portion also houses a few pool tables. This is where the younger crowd likes to hang and can be pretty packed on the weekends.

The food is quite average. They claim to have great pizza, but it isn't very good. The food prices aren't bad - but I prefer to eat elsewhere and finish an evening on the town here with a couple pints.

Barley's Taproom has a huge selection of both draft and bottle beers. Pitchers are available of all the drafts, as well as varying glass sizes for some of the pricier ones.

The pizza is very good. They are large slices and reasonably priced.

The service was not great during my last visit, but it has been fine in the past. Single slices of pizza take a bit longer to arrive than I expected, but the quality is good so the time seems to be well spent.

The place is quite loud, but the atmosphere is nice, it's a good part of town, and the large interior is well decorated.

There is some sort of special upstairs room with more drinks available, but I don't know much about it as I've never been upstairs.

Right downtown, though they've never seemed overly busy which I don't mind. During the week anyway you can park atop the bus station next door.

Always a quality list of taps that seem to change frequently. Go up and check since the menu's are often outdated and the waitstaff borderline clueless. Bartender knowledge is much better. Older vintage brews, the 12 oz ones are often very reasonably priced. Nemesis 2010 was my choice, seems to be getting better with a year on it now.

Stick with the pizzas/calzone/stromboli for food, the same can be said for pretty much all Barley's Taprooms.

this is the place to go for a bar experience in greenville if youre into beer. the restaurant is cool and wooden with exposed brick and soaring ceilings. it can hold a ton of people this causes it to be quite loud around dinner time on a friday. the service is just ok, and is the problem with this place. 3 weeks ago my girlfriend ordered a rogue chocolate stout that was most certainly off, and when i asked about it they waitress told her that was how it's supposed to taste then walked away. despite the service the selection is awesome. ive had CBS and Sexual chocolate there, and this place pretty much put craft beer on my mind. i go here when im thirsty for something good. the upstairs bar is good too, and there are pool tables and other various activities for people to enjoy.
