Pours a near black with hints of lace around the edge of the snifter. Smells nicely sweet, hints of dark malts and rich caramel. That's about it in the smell. No chocolate or coffee.
Taste is mild and a bit watery. Hints of chocolate come out in the taste along with the caramel and malts that are present in the smell. A thin mouthfeel with a lingering mildly dry finish. Not a bad porter but could be a bit denser.

Served on-draught at Alpine's pub into a 5 oz sampler. Reviewed from notes taken in January 2013.

A: Pours a half finger head of nice cream and thickness, but poor retention. Body colour is a dark caramel-black. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show.

Sm: Caramel, dark malts, buried roast, and residual sweetness. A moderate strength aroma.

T: Dark malts, caramel, and buried light roast. Very balanced and enjoyable. Flavourful and tasty. I quite like it. Complex yet pleasant to drink.

Mf: Smooth and wet. Carbonation is perfect. Great thickness and presence on the palate.

Dr: Very drinkable. A quality porter; I quite like it. Yet another solid beer from Alpine. I'd definitely get it again.

On tap at O'Brien's during 2012 CBC/WBC week. Pint glass.

Pours black, with a half finger of tan head, with very good retention for the entire pour and lots of lacing. Smell is nice, big coffee flavors and roastiness, as is the taste, both in good balance. Smooth mouthfeel with medium body and carbonation. Overall, a very good example of the style; hard to get too excited, but a tasty everyday option.

A: Black with a thin light brown head. Some spots of lacing.

S: Mostly roasted malt with a bit of earth and some hints of coffee.

T: Some sweet roasted malt with a touch of black cherry and molasses. Hints of coffee and chocolate as well. Pretty good stuff.
