Pours a clear golden into a pint glass with a half inch of dense head. This dissipates in a few minutes yet has a lasting surface film bringing about some scattered lacing.
Smell is rich with hops, piney resinous hops along with some wet peat, hemp and citrus. Hop notes seem unusually volatile, becoming rarer as the carbonation decreases.
Taste is slightly rich initially and finishes with a well carbonated and oily orange citrus flavor. Overall the brew appears a bit thin in body, not having much of a malt balance. Yet what is there cloaks the ABV surprisingly well, improving drinkability. This brew seeks to maximize hops and ABV while keeping those pesky malt calories to a minimum, or not. Yes, perhaps that's just a well manipulated illusion as the bitterness is kept in check. Another fine IPA from Alpine that is rich and robust yet convinces you otherwise after a few sips due to its enticing flavor.

On draft at O'Brien's
A- Murky orange hue, light head leaves of cluster of white in the middle, minimal lacing
S- Sweet fruits, bread and rye malts, citrus tones, molasses and brown sugar
T- Initial taste is pine hops followed by bread malts, maple syrup and brown sugar, thick molasses, finishes dry and bitter... delicious
M- Full-bodied, oily texture coats mouth, low carbonation
D- Super-balanced and complex DIPA that has aspects of sweet barleywine, alcohol is well-masked at 9%, truly a DIPA treat

Had this on tap at Toronado in August. Pours a dark golden with little head and some lacing. Smell is mostly piney hops with some faint malt in the background. Taste is very dry and a little slick with some fruitiness up front and a long earthy hop bitterness. Very dry and attenuated. This one was good, but a little dryer and one dimensional than I expected. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as I thought I would.

12/26/06- On tap at the Toronado in San Francisco, CA.
Presentation- From the tap into a tulip style glass.
Appearance- Medium to deep golden hued color. Small 1/4 inch creamy white head. Leaves behind light patch patterns of lace.
Smell- Very large pine sap and woodsy smell. Grapefruit hops intermix as well, but pine trumps all. Real light malt noticed.
Taste- Hops are really in play here, but a light toasted and sweet caramel malt combines with them well. Fruity grapefruit and pine laden hops provide a wonderful flavor for the taste buds.
Mouthfeel- Super smooth and lightly creamy. Lower carbonation level which is almost cask like.
Drinkability- Overall a real good DIPA that isn't as in your face as some others, but still provides great balance and taste. Possibly better than Pure Hoppiness.

This beer pours a golden yellow color with a thick, fluffy, off white head, with a slight yellow tint to it. The head fades so very slowly, leaving a thick coating of lace.
This beer has a massive hop aroma. I smell sweet piney hops mostly. Lots of grassy aroma also. It is quite citrusy also. I am really enjoying the aroma of this one.
The flavor is not a let down either. It is very aggressive. Loads of piney hops, and a massive grassy flavor. It has a slight grapefruity citrus flavor as well. The 9% ABV is well hidden in the flavor.
This beer is very full bodied. It is quite aggressive. It leaves a piney aftertaste. It is carbonated well for the style.
Although this beer is a high ABV, and it is quite aggressive, I think personally, this beer could be a good session beer. It tastes great.
Overall: Get this beer if you can. You wont be sorry. WOW.

Bartzilla - ditto on trying it for the first time at Liars on Thursday. Were you that guy down the bar from me?
A nice straw/amber colored American DIPA with lots of hop aroma and flavor coming through as citrus and pine. A bit of malt balance is detectable, but this one remains crisp and refreshing with a medium body and a good carbonation level. Ill probably be the only one to say this, but I liked it better than Pure Hoppiness.
You San Diegans are pretty lucky ..

I had this down at Liar's Club last Thursday. I knew that this wasn't doing to disappoint and I was correct. So amazingly fresh tasting with just hops everywhere. Kind of tasted like a mix of Exponential Hoppiness with some of the florals from Duet.
Love it. Wish I had a keg of it at my house. Wait, scratch that. it's probably better I don't. Job and all that.
Please keep this in rotation. Delicious.

On tap at the 10th Annual San Diego Strong Ale Festival.
The aroma was wonderfully pungent. The nose was dominated by an explosive burst of resiny and citrusy hops. A light and sweet maltiness poked through at the end.
The flavor of the beer was primarily that of citrusy hops of a light caramel maltiness to help round things out. The hops were powerful, but the beer was very smooth. It was well attenuated and wasn't too sweet, which is were many double IPAs can loose points. The beer had a nice spiciness that I prefer in DIPAs.
The mouthfeel was crisp and the carbonation seemed dialed in just right.
A good "San Diego" Pale Ale.
