full disclosure - dennis, the owner, is a good buddy of mine, but I love the place. I believe it's the only bar in san diego where you can drink this quality of beer on the water (correct me if I'm wrong, 'cause I'll go anywhere else that I can also do that).

fathom is at the end of a pier in point loma. you can sit in the small room inside or at the tables outside. it's peaceful, not overrun (yet), and very friendly. so that covers atmosphere. on the quality...dennis has been part of hamilton's, small bar, and just about every other big-time beer bar in san diego. so he's got the right connections. even had pliny on his opening night. it's a short list, but it's of the highest quality. the service was also first-rate. a ton of fun and great at what they do. regarding the food - while it's not the healthiest selection...it's good. homemade sausages, burgers, and the explodo-dog. oh, and beers are five bucks. can't beat that. well, I guess you can. they could be $3. but then he wouldn't be in business.

a seriously great new beer bar in san diego. highly recommend checking it out.

Visited here a few weekends ago. Awesome location (Shelter Island pier) with great views. Perfect place to enjoy a pint outside. Didn't try any food, but everything looked good. Beer list was short, but did not disappoint. Very well selected draft offerings. Can't wait to get back here again.
