Bottle from West Lakeview Liquors. Served in a tulip at at Marie and Stella's Steampunk extravaganza.
A - A finger of white foam settle to a thin ring, and minimal lace. Transparent golden body.
S - Lots of orange rind, dank herbs, earth and pine here, with perhaps a touch of tropical sweetness melding with the balancing malt, and lightly burnt sugars. Perhaps a hint of alcohol amid the sharp pine.
T - An 'old-school' DIPA, with lots of pine and grapefruit zest, with mild melon sweetness. More bready and less sweet than the aroma, with mild burnt sugar in the periphery. Moderate bitterness and better hidden alcohol.
M - Medium body, moderate carbonation. Dry in the finish, with residual hop oils and resins. A bit of warmth after a glass, but nothing excessive.
D - A well-made DIPA that bodes well for 18th Street. It's not my preferred flavor combination, but it's spot-on for the style and will be a big winner with some. Had no problem killing the bomber with a few friends. I'm going to have to check out their Black IPA I guess.

Fairly nice IPA with good flavors but a little too much malt. Maybe this can was a little bit too old. Printed date on can was 8/26/19. Pours a very slightly hazy yellow-orange color with a little fluffy white head and some nice thick rings of lingering lacing. Smells of grapefruit, mango, tangerine, pineapple and lemon. Also some malt, vanilla, floral hops, bread and caramel. Taste follows the nose, good balance and decent hit of bitter hoppiness. There just seemed to be a little bit too much malt that overwhelmed the hops. Smooth, mild mouthfeel with good carbonation. Overall a solid beer but could have been better.

Bottled August 2016; drank 8/28/16 @ the Yarchives.
Opaque dull orange appearance.
A rough pour yielded a minimal eggshell head; nice, frothy lace.
Strawberry, orange citrus & faint caramel notes in the nose.
Creamy, medium thick mouthfeel.
Grapefruit & dry orange citrus flavors up front; booze heat on the finish.
This smelled great but was too dry & boozy. Too bad.

Had poured from pint can, bottom stamped (apparently canned on) “11/12/18,” into nonic pint.
Hugely fruity, yet still malty, and balanced by big, bitter but not overwhelming hops. A nice big West Coast DIPA.

Spicy, bitter and aggressive, the brewers at 18th Street roll out an IPA with elevated status, gearing nearer and nearer American barleywine status behind the help of Zythos, Falconer's Flight and Cascade hops.
Sinister IPA grips the nose with a bold wallop of citrus, tropical and stone fruit with a sweeter honey-like scent. Its rich amber color resembles toasted toasted poundcake and honey but with a creamy off white froth. Hazy and somewhat visually dense, the beer teases the tastebuds with caramel, shortcake, honey and marmalade sweetness.
As the hops develop, the malts recede gradually and allow the full brunt of fruity impressions to evolve. Pink grapefruit, orange and lemon bring a zesty and radiant taste ahead of more saturating stone fruit flavors of apricot. Tangy mango, pineapple and cantaloup come in as the beer dries slightly to highlight a final and deeply bitter set of resins and peppery alcohol spice.
Full, creamy and dense, the ale holds onto its malty weight and suggests more of a barleywine especially when the acetone and peppercorn spices charge in late in taste. A long bittersweet aftertaste is a medley of apricot jam and muddled grasses in a slow and sipping session.

Appearance: Pours clear and copper colored with a one inch head that leaves some decent lacing
Smell: Dank and resinous; piney, with mango and pineapple tones
Taste: Toffee malt forward, with piney hops and some tropical fruit; bitterness build, after the swallow
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation
Overall: A decent beer but not among this brewery's best

A - Pours a cloudy (surprisingly) dark orange, with 1/2 inch white head.
S - Juicy hops on the nose but not very strong.
T - I'm baffled. I thought I was heading into grapefruit or orange, but NO! Flavor is sweet, malty with some mango notes. Not particularly bitter.
M - Carbonation and mouth feel are medium. Not as sticky as I would expect from a DIPA.
O - I like this beer. A bit of a curve ball, but I like what they are doing here.
