Appearance: Mostly clear, wonderful burnt sienna/rustic red with a finger of classic antique white foam made up of mostly medium but tight knit bubbles. Some decent curtain style lacing and nice doilies on the surface.

Aromatics: very sweet and fruity, grape bubblegum, bread malts with mildly floral and leafy notes. Some sweeter toffee and roasted grains shining through as well.

Taste: Juicy and fruity that is quickly replaced with with a complex mixture of hops, the bitters are fairly distinctive - some are very earthy (mulch and pitch-like) while other parts of the bitter profile are more resinous and piney.

Feel: Some nice bubbles keeping things frothy on the palate. Good medium body, a bit of that 8% ABV wafts out in the end after a lingering and drawn out dry finish.

Overall: For a 100 IBU and 8% it was pulled off very nicely. I love the aromas, very sweet and inviting when I was expecting that tang of citrus which in this case was pretty much a no show. If you want your IBUs this is a good choice. It is kept well in check by a very robust malt selection so it doesn’t become the ‘only’ component. The gestalt of the senses are well teased.

Pairing : Sweet and Hot are my suggestions. I usually pair high IBU bitters with my spices, but you have to be selective in how to deliver that spice. Here I’m going to go with cream cheese stuffed baked jalapeños with a homemade sweet-heat (peach/habenero) salsa - easy on the habeneros. Don’t want to over do it. I also like the idea of maybe trying spicy beef “pachos” (waffle cut potato chips in lieu of tortilla style chips) with a hot pepper spiced up honey mustard dipping sauce. Both options are great ideas.

Had a 22 oz at Henry's Tavern at PDX yesterday for $9.00.

Beer was served deep amber with a decent white head.

Nose was malt forward with hints of citrus.

Taste is pretty well balanced between the malt bill and the citrus hops. Melding of malts and hops was not quite good as hoped.

Feel is medium to full bodied and smooth.

Overall a pretty solid beer that is worthy of a shot.

Not sure the 100 IBU is right as I've had hoppier beer but it is a good taste. Just less bitter than its label suggests.

22oz bottle, the red offset to the sort of white ale cohort from this brewery to recently make it up and across the 49th and the Rocky Mountains.

This beer pours a slightly hazy, medium orange-brick amber colour, with three fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and well bubbly ecru head, which leaves some melting ice shelf lace around the glass as it slowly and evenly sinks away.

It smells of rather sweet bready and biscuity caramel malt, a further grainy toffee character, muddled citrus and apple fruitiness, a bit of lemon-scented floor polish, and more leafy, piney, and perfumed floral hop bitters. The taste is semi-sweet bready, doughy, and grainy caramel malt, more biscuity toffee, still hard to discern pome and citrus fruity notes, a consistent lemon cleaner acerbity, and more piney, leafy, and floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is fairly low-key in its plain and innocuous frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and mostly smooth, that purported bitterness laying off the gas, as if it were really red-lined in the first place. It finishes still trending sweet, the caramel and mixed fleshy fruitiness contending with a simmering boozy heat.

Overall, a sort of weirdly disjointed big-ass Red, the alcohol always seeming to be poised to strike deep into the heart of this man. Too sweet, in the end, to lend credence to that proclamation of '100 IBUs' on the label, but all right, I suppose, if your palate is crying out for some sauced-up dessert.

Clear light red amber and an off-white foamy head with good retention. Bold grassy and spicy aroma and a biscuit and sweet tea undertone. Flavor follows with spicy notes with light sweetness with a dry hoppy finish and light alcohol. Smooth light carbonation and mouthfeel.

Very nice combination of flavors with the balance of sweetness in the beginning and dryness in the end. A very good and pleasant beer to sip in the evening.

Pours two fingers of head on a hazy straw body.
The aroma is big malt with a little lemon.
The taste is lemon and pine bitterness with a huge malt to make it easy to drink.
The texture is crisp and fizzy.
Solid.
