Bottle purchased from Green's on Ponce in Atlanta.

Pours a cloudy golden-straw color with a half-finger white head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving decent lacing.

Smells of soft wheat with very slight hints of dried banana and leafy hop aromas in the background. As it warms slight amounts of spicy clove waft out but it's barely detectable.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Mild wheat flavors with a good amount of twang kick things off. Joining in shortly thereafter are somewhat sweet banana flavors and underlying hints of clove. The ending is crisp and leaves wheat flavors lingering on the palate.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with active carbonation.

Drinkability is good. I finished my glass without a problem and could have another.

Overall this wasn't the most flavorful hefeweizen in the world but it has no large faults and it's easy to drink. Not worth seeking out but not worth avoiding either.

A - an impenetrable hazy brown orange almost like swamp water, short white head dissipated fairly quickly leaving a small lace ring
S - surprising herbal hops, toasty wheat malt, and some lemon citrus, not at all what I was expecting
T - toasty bready wheat malt and dank herbal hops, light lemon and orange zest, and a spicy note, none of the typical yeasty flavour expected from a German hefe, more like pale ale flavours
M - medium refreshing carbonation, a bready chewy feel that is smooth, finishing with slight bitter
D - this is a decent brew, but it seems to have more of the characteristic of a mildly hopped pale ale, and very few of the hefe flavours I'm accustomed to, not sure what they were going for, but it is still enjoyable and fairly easy drinking

Half pint bottle,

A: Pours a light translucent yellow with a mild but long-lasting white head, small spots of lace.

S: Fairly bready, cake batter, lemon squares.

T: Dominated by lemons with a hint of sulphur, very mineral driven. Not a traditional flavour, but the minerality keeps it really interesting, almost a Berliner Weisse/hefe hybrid.

M: Light-bodied, crisp, mildly acidic. Very spritzy.

D: Unique, as I found with all of Pinkus' beers. Well worth a pickup.

I picked up a 500mL bottle of this at the Wegmans in Cicero NY for $3.59. Served cold in a chilled weizen glass at 9am, continuing my new tradition of beer for weekend breakfasts. (what better way to start the day?)

This super cloudy, honey colored brew gave a lovely 3-4" cake of soft, dense, off-white foam that has now settled to a seemingly stable 1/4" layer. Lace is spotty, at best. Aromas of banana peel, yeast, and a faint cinnamon are balanced by a tame lemon hop. The feel is crisp and dry with a relatively aggressive carbonation, not as smooth or creamy as most other hefes, but still appropriate and certainly not offensive. Taste-wise, a relatively aggressive lemon hop contributes to the over-all more assertive feel of this brew compared to others of the style, but again it is not offensive or out of place... just exploring the limits of the style a bit, but still clearly identifiable as a traditional German hefeweizen.

I enjoy the subtle twist they've put on it (the extra carbo and hop). The difference is very minor (compared to the vast liberties frequently taken with other styles) and it is interesting to see how, nearly across the board, other reviewers have commented on it. This goes to show how narrow the expectations for this style are. German hefeweizen is about as sacred as it gets, eh?

Poured from 500mL bottle into a weizen glass.

Appearance: hazy golden-yellow with two thick fingers of creamy white head. Pretty solid in my opinion.

Smell: light, malty aroma with a bit of tartness and a hint of grain. Not much in the way of the clove and banana that I like in hefeweizens; this is almost more like a pale wheat ale.

Taste: light and refreshing with notes of wheaty citrus as well as a little something that might be clove. The flavor is definitely more hefeweizeney than the aroma, but it's still simply good rather than great.

Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a moderate level of carbonation. Not much in the way of creaminess here, but it is serviceable.

Drinkability: a refreshing wheat beer, but doesn't really live up to the ideal of a German hefeweizen. Drinkable, but not a paragon of the style.

Poured from a .5 L bottle into a Paulaner weizen glass.

Appearance: Pours a hazy, golden yellow color with a small, fizzy white head that dissipates quickly and leaves little lacing.

Smell: Has a light bready smell with a hint of sweetness.

Taste: Light and bready. Has hints of yeastiness, cloves, and vague fruitiness. This one tastes a little different from most hefeweizens in that the bready flavors outweigh the fruity/yeasty flavors. Still pretty tasty.

Mouthfeel: Crisp and refreshing, like a hefeweizen should be. Pretty dry to finish, however.

Drinkability: A decent hefeweizen and certainly a unique one. I'm not sure if I would actively seek this one out again but it's certainly something I wouldn't mind having again.

Picked this up at Siciliano's in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Poured into a hefe glass it yields a cloudy orange with light bubbles rising from the bottom to meet their brethren in a smooth white head.

Bananas, bubble gum and bread on the nose.

Milder versions of the listed flavors in the nose come through upon the first sip. The wheaty bread taste being prevalent. Light citrus notes.

Mouthfeel is a bit watery, but still very hefe-like and quite easy to drink.

Drinkability as I just mentioned is pretty high. Not my most favorite of the German Hefe's but a legit offer nonetheless.

Appearance - Dark, dirty straw yellow. Moderately cloudy with some sediment evident. Active bubbles rising throughout.

Pours a decent head, but larger bubbles that didn't last much past first drink.

Smell - Moderate yeast, floral smell, with slight sweetness and fruitiness.

Taste - Well balanced, slightly sweet, fruity flavor

Mouthfeel - Smooth, slightly creamy mouth feel, and hint of carbonation on the tounge.

Drinkability - This is a good beer, true to the style. I would certainly order it again if I saw it on a beer list.

A 500 mL bottle purchased at Wegmans in Mechanicsburg.

A: The pour lacked the vigor associated with a hefeweizen; I managed to fill my weizen glass in just two pours. A large head, over 3 fingers, was fast to recede, leaving no head behind. The weizen is hazy and golden, pale but translucent. Did someone put a kristalweizen in my glass instead?

S: Grainy, the ale smells like a brewhouse fresh with spent malt. The breadiness outshines wheat and yeast by-products, taking control of the ale.

T: At least the ale returns to its weizen base when I take that first sip. Mild wheat, lightly tart, and a strong clove presence define the taste. The wheat sharing space up front, comes back with a bit more force near the finish. The weizen may be best described as clove-y. The weizen is mediocre, so it may not be the best thing to splash 'organic' all over.

M: The mouthfeel is grainy with enough wheat to make me notice. The abundance of clove is a bit of a turn-off.

D: I'll finish off this bottle. It works if you prefer a clove-driven hefeweizen.

Beautiful beer! Pours a very hazy pale golden color with enormous, jiggly-thick white head. Wow!

Nose is weak to non-existant. Faint whiff of bread.

Palate is light wheat with decent carbonation, but nothing much to enjoy. There's nothing offensive... just nothing good, really. Finish is light. Easy drinking, but watery.

A - Poured into a weizen style glass. The yeast was swirled in, more was stuck to the bottom. Dull hazy lemony amber colour. Two finger head soon diminished to a ring. Lots of lacing.
S - Lemon up front. Yeast and malt.
T - As with the smell - lemon up front with a nice yeast malt balance.
M - Light, refreshing.
D - Very drinkable. Light, well balanced flavour leads to drinking more.

Pale gold. Fine white foam. Hazy but not cloudy, no eddys of yeast whirling in the glass.

Fruity aroma w/ a bit of spice. I can't put my finger on it but not he usual banana-clove affair. Sort of fruity and floral? Nice, if not traditional.

Surpised to find a pleasant sweetness that complements the aromas, lingering on the palate before a crisp tart finish is delivered.

A bit of carbonation tingle in the mouth. Leaves a slight chalky, mouth drying feel that makes one want another sip.

This is a yummy, easy drinker.

Uber fizzy and carbonic. Hazy yellow/pale gold. White head comes on strong at first but does not endure long

Spicy fruitiness uplifted by the carbonation. Some sourness of rising dough. Rye bread crust, almost nutty. Unripe pear.

Sharp starfruit smoothed out by slightly sweet unripe banana. A bit of spice, but not clovey; almost allspicey, but so faint. Love how the esters and phenols are kept in check more as a balancing nuance with the bread and drinkability. No alcohol, no real hop.

Bready and soft on the palate despite tartness. At the swallow, there is a nice kick of everything: sweeter grain, more sour stonefruit, banana, spice, and everything nice. Tad alcohol on the breath at final swallow

Great session beer and a schooling to many brewers on the art of balance.

What an amazing surprise!

A= cloudy light yellow, traditional Heffe small foamy head but a little more dense. Tons of lacing inside the entire glass during every gulp.

S= unique and very interesting, smells like asparagus when first poured! Nice rich scents of hops florals, malts and other notes to explore.

T= asparagus again, in the first few sips. Great tasting and complex flavors, slight pepper. For a Heffe it's modestly creamy thick and malty, slightly sweet. Not much carbonation bite, which I appreciate about this beer.

M= clean, with light hints of the complex and rich flavors.

D= I think anyone who likes good Heffe could session all day and night on this.

Poured into Pint glass

A: Pours a foggy golden color with lots of fluffy head (2 fingers worth) that leaves a wonderful amount of lacing on the glass. Looks like a great Hefe....

S: Wow lots of lemon.... a hint of wheat. Not much else here.

T: OK the lemon from the smell is right up front in the taste as well.... finishing quickly with wheat bread flavors then ending slightly sweet yet tart at the same time. Strange but not memorable.

M: Light body with moderate carbonation. On the crisp side.

D: OK, low ABV and a Hefe, 2 good things, but this one just is not very memorable.... Little to much on the lemon side for my liking.

The Pinkus pours a hazy pale yellow with a thick frothy head, decreasing to a thin lacey cap within a minute or so. The nose has the per-style notes of bananas as well as some yeast and a bit of orange zest. The beer tastes refreshingly light, with a perfect carbonation for it's medium body (though a tad thinner than the other weizens I've tried lately), and easy-drinking wheat grain and banana and clove taste. I could very easily drink several in a sitting.

Nice big bottle poured into a standard pint glass.

A: Super cloudy tan with a marshmellow head that disappeared quickly but left nice lacing.

S: Sour dough bread, bananas and slight notes of almonds.

T: Yeasty, somewhat watery body contains lots of fresh dough, lemons and a nutty character in the finish.

Drinkability: Exceptionally easy to drink without being boring at all.

Value: I wish they'd make this one in a six pack form. The individual bottles are a little pricey.

Poured from a brown 16.9 oz. bottle. Has a cloudy, light brown color with a small head. Smells of citrus and spices. Taste is surprisingly mild, some citrus, cloves, and banana. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and has decent drinkability. Overall this is a decent brew, but less flavorful than other hefe-weizens.

This is a light, refreshing, fairly lemony hefeweizen that is easy to drink. It pours a slightly hazy straw pale yellow color with a white head that doesn't retain all that well, no lacing. The nose is very light, slightly citrusy, slightly lemony, maybe a touch of grassiness. Not much coming out of the aroma.

The taste is a tad sharp all the way through, with a spritzy, slight saltene flavor, lots of lemony citrus, lots of refreshing seltzer water lemonade flavors. It doesn't have the prickliness of other wheat beers. This is a refreshing beer, not great, but good enough to appreciate. It is quite light, no real mouthfeel or aftertaste, just enjoy on a hot day.

Appearance: Poured a cloudy wheat. It developed two fingers of thick white head with surprisingly little retention. It was only a minute or two before it dissipated to a skim of foam.

Smell: I got a whiff of banana right after I popped the cap, but once in the bottle it gave off a nice, sweet apple cider aroma. The banana disappeared, but was replaced with fruity bubblegum and a minor tickling of lemon. Another reviewer mentioned champagne, and I could smell it, too.

Taste: Very bread-like at first, which greatly subdues the flavors I was expecting from the aroma. However, hints of apple, banana, and bubblegum emerge as it warms. It also provides a nose full of yeasty, wheaty goodness.

Drinkability: I wish it would be a little more potent, but I think it's true to style and good drinking. Wheat beer, but without the nasty agri-chemicals. It's a winner in my book.

Picked up through a monthly beer exchange. Poured into my Troeg's Dreamweaver Wheat glass leaves a very modest head and no apparent lacing. This beer is a very hazy brown gold.

Smell is very subdued - I just don't get a lot from it.

Taste is also subdued, a little lemon and wheat, maybe some bubblegum and a hint of banana.

Mouthfeel is decent and finishes well.

Drinkability is fine. Several of these would be fine but I just don't think I would want several.

Not bad but probably not an offering I will seek out.

Poured into an Ayinger Weizen glass.

A: Very cloudy gold. The mild carbonation is joined by a swirling cloud of yeast. A small and dense white head forms than never fully dissipates. Leaves occasional spots of lace.

S: There's a lot of lemon in the nose, plus pears, cloves and just a hint of banana.

T: Light, crisp and refreshing sums this one up. Starts out with a dry biscuit flavor. A light lemon and clove bitterness follows. Pear and apple ride underneath. Finishes tart, dry and lemony.

M: The body is both chewy and grainy. The carbonation is right where it should be.

D: This is a nice unassuming hefe. The light flavors and low ABV make it go down quick. Perfect for a hot summer day after a stint with the mower.

Poured from a 500mL bottle into my Ayinger weizen glass. No freshness date.

Liquid pours an extremely hazy pale old gold with a voluminous seashell head with superior lacing.

The nose yields mild yeast (maybe), faint esters, and a touch of diacetyl melding with the wheat (like buttered bread). Lacking banana, clove, or other characteristic notes...

On the palate, there is malt (pilsner?), citrus, wheat thins, a little sourness, with a brisk tart finish. Good balance of flavors, though they never quite coalesce properly. Some elements bring to mind a banal domestic hefeweizen, or even a German lager - again this lacks most of the flavors you would expect in the style.

Medium-light bodied softly blooming with effervesence.

Very easy drinking, and it goes down rapidly; on the other hand, this is partly because there is not much to savor.

Worth drinking, though not worth seeking out.
