First had: on tap at Pinocchio's, Media, PA
An oatmeal stout base (Barnacle Bottom Stout) aged in whiskey barrels. Cola brown pour into a mini snifter, no head whatsoever. Not much in the nose, light notes of roasty dark malts and bakers' chocolate, slightly boozy. Taste was dry and roasty, quite thin, a cocoa-like grittiness, and a slight, subtle whiskey-vanilla profile, that never really fully defined itself. The body on this was really pretty thin and watery for a stout, especially for an oatmeal stout. This sounded a lot better than it was. I haven't had the base beer, so I don't know if this is just a beer they took too far without having a good quality base to start with. I just don't think this is a recommendable beer. However, put it on nitro, and you might improve on the body a bit. I'm kind of glad this was only offered as a small pour, and at a non-presumptuous price.
