Poured from 22oz bomber into a tulip. Bottle says "Belgian Style Dark Ale", so whether this is a regular BDA, a BSDA or, by its aroma, a dubbel, is kind of hard to say. The website hints that this may be a dubbel, so that's what I'm going with. The name, Duplex, suggests this might be the brewer's intent as well.

Appearance: medium amber hue with a bit of an orange cast. There's a light haze and a pretty strong effervescence, although the single finger of fizzy ivory head dissipated somewhat rapidly. Not too bad, I guess.

Smell: sweet aroma with a fair hit of phenolic character; cloves and band-aids. There's a hint of spiciness and a little bit of toastiness from the malt; pretty middle-of-the-road for a decent dubbel.

Taste: sweet malt, a little caramel flavor, and a hint of dark fruitiness like raisins or dates. That phenolic character is limited up front, but slowly develops on the palate. There's a nice little complexity here; pretty good.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a huge, well-integrated carbonation and a massive, satisfying creaminess. The label says this is bottle-conditioned and it certainly seems to have paid off.

Overall: this is a decent dubbel, though not among my favorites. I do like the fact that it is made right here in Snohomish County, though. This area needs more Belgian-inspired brewers!
