August 2017: Shared bottle at local tasting. Black colour, small tan head. Malty aroma and flavour, roast malts, caramel, chocolate and coffee. Not above average for the style.

I am admittedly battling a cold as I write, so please keep that in mind. With that said, I was not impressed with the taste which was surprisingly generic for a self-proclaimed imperial stout. Very carbonated for a stout. I could see how someone might really enjoy this, but not yours truly.

A: Color is reddish brown and the tall beige head is thick and creamy. Nice lacings.

S: Dark malt, hard roasted - almost a bit burnt. Vanilla and smoked ham. Strong dark coffee and faint dark chocolate.

T: Rich maltyness, somewhat sweet, but also burnt. Strong black coffe and dark chocolate. Vanilla in the back.

M: Aftertaste is very dark; burned and hard roasted bitterness, but it doesn't last very long. Body is rather full and carbonation is low.

O: A nice and balanced Baltic Porter, perhaps no surprises.

The colour is deep brown; looking more like a porter than a stout (80 EBC). The liquid is clear. The finger thick compact head is cool brown, it sinks slowly leaving no lacing.

The smell is roasted with notes of coffee, chocolate, molasses, dried red berries and a touch of salt.

The taste starts off with some clean sweetness. Them roasted notes emerges; smooth coffee, dark chocolate, and hints of salt liquorice and black pepper. Metal in the otherwise clean bitterness. Medium body (I had expected more). The aftertaste got growing notes of alcohol and a delicate bitterness. Molasses and some marzipan. The finish is quite short with dry molasses, bittern notes and some dough.

The carbonation is quite strong with lots of small, long-lived bubbles. The liquid is smooth.

It should have been labelled “Baltic Porter Sort-Of-Imperial”, I had expected more body and even more bitterness from this one.

A: dark brown with hints of a reddish brown at the rim of the glass. Foam is high, two fingers, and deep beige, but disappears quickly and leaves a thin lid on the top.

S: it has a smokey smell of smoked sausages and ham, there's roasted malt and some tar, choclate and coffee.

T: taste is smooth, with roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, liqourice, dark bread and syrup sweetness. Just a hint of acidic freshness. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

M: liquid is smooth and sticky. Carbonation is medium.

O: flavors could be a little stronger, but all in all a vey good beer.

Drank out of tulip glass.
