July 2009: 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Unpasteurised. ABV is 5.1%. Golden colour, big white head. Moderate carbonation in the glass. Fairly strong sweetish aroma, notes of grass and maize. The flavour is sweet but also well hopped, somewhat alcoholic, appears to be stronger than its fairly moderate ABV. Better than Swedish industrial lagers in the same class (doesn’t take much, really), but this is not a beer I’ll buy again. Jämtlands have better beers than this one.

When pouring the beer, you get a completely clear golden yellow / red beer with white foam. The foam has small bubbles and stay a while. The scents are fine. Good hops tones with a little burnt elements. A little fruity scent with fragrance dough. You feel the taste of hops in pretty fast. The taste has some sweet bread flavor and malt. Many earthy tones, a little alcohol. Fine robust bitterness with spicy flavors, such as citrus and some pepper notes. Quite a nice balance that probably develop in the bottle.

This was made again in 2023 with an updated recipe.

Pours a clear yellow with soft, thick head.

Smell is crackery, hoppy and a bit floral. Slightly sweet and buttery with notes of citrus and wheat dough.

Taste is crackery, hoppy, floral and a bit buttery. Notes of citrus, wheat dough and some spiciness. Moderate bitterness.

Mouthfeel is medium and well carbonated.

Overall, a nice update of a Swedish classic.

The beer was poured in a glass from the bottle. The beer does not carbonate at all. There is hardly any foam. The beer has just no smell, or maybe very little. The taste is very water like, with just a very little hint of bitterness. Overall a bad bear, nothing special

A: Rather thick foam (two fingers) that dissipates quickly and leaves a thin layer at the surface. Very small foam rests. Color is golden pale.

S: Fresh, flowery, some fruity notes, malty, hints of iron.

T: Some citrus, malt, a fresh note of cocoa, subtle and well rounded bitterness. Very refreshing with clean dryness in the aftertaste.

M: Carbonation is rather low and the liquid is a little bit thin and watery. Still, it's really drinkable and refreshing.

A good beer, although I miss some bitterness. Probably one of the best Swedish lagers.

The beer is clear dark golden, with a white head that leaves some lacing.

The smell is mostly citric, fresh lemons, lime and a dash of sweet oranges.

Upfront a caramel sweetness and digestive biscuits from the malt, then a bitter sourness like lemon curd marmalade. The bitterness stays around nicely.

Medium carbonation, soft and refreshing going over to a long dryness.

This is really a lager to my liking, god hops giving lots of taste and yet refreshing.

500ml bottle from the Systembologet the day before. Poured into a hotel water glass.

A: an apple cider golden-with-brown-tint. Foams a bit (not bad for the small water tumbler...)

S: "American" comes to mind due to the hop aroma

T: not much going on. Some light honey up front, then immediately a coarse, citrusy hop flavor. After taste is bitter, and maybe there's some dried apricot as the taste fades.

M: Dry, astringent.

p.s. original tasting notes jotted on a page torn from a hotel bible. Kind of ironic. I wonder if they serve Hell in hell...

A huge thanks to Anders for the extras in our trade!

Enjoying this in a 22 oz. Spaten mug. There was a generous head when poured, plenty of carbonation rising quickly through the golden straw colored liquid. After a few minutes, there is a sticky ring at the edge with very little lacing. Smell is lightly bready with some earthy hop traces.

Light but firm hop bitterness comes through in the flavor, making this Helles unique. Light bodied and crisp, crackery, finishing dry and bitter. Traces of honey flavor, but not sweet. Bit of an effervescent lager feel. The dry bitterness is really what sets it apart, with a clean and fairly simple composition.

Very enjoyable on an unseasonably warm 70º November day in Chicago.

A: This beer pours hazy golden with a nice white head that sadly dies a little to fast leaving some lacings.

S: Sweet malt mixed with some citric notes together with floral hops (I'm guessing cascade).

T: First some sweetness from the malt, but before you can finish that tought the hops kicks in like a punch in the mouth. Floral hops as well as some bitter ones (my guess from the smell - Cascade is more present here). Some citric notes.

M: The longlasting aftertaste is dry and bitter in this mediumbodied beer that has nice carbonation.

D: This is a great beer if you're into hops. I will buy it again.

Had a glass of this at Akkurat bar in Stockholm. Served with a big, frothy, foamy, almost creamy off-white head and good lace. Color was that of polished brass. Aroma was malty, hoppy, and a hint of sulphur. Real nice flavor. Sulphur disappeared right away. Great balance between bitter and sweet and hop/malt. A tad salty. Good body and carbonation. Great for quaffing. Good bitter sweet finish.

Poured pale brown-gold with very insignificant crown that didn't last very long.

The smell is mostly malty grain, with a touch of floral hops. Unlike most of the beer from this brewery, this one smells a bit too much like a Swedish macro, with the additional touch of the smell of freezer burn.

The mouthfeel is crisp, with medium carbonation.

The taste is quite upfront with the bitter copper, and a small dab of honey. Not much else. It's better than a Swedish macro, but it's really uninteresting.

This is the first time I had this on tap. Drank it at Bishops Arms, Karlstad.

The color is golden with a nice white head. Too bad it dies. Bad glasses, bad pour? I didn't look when the bartender poured it up.

The smell is quite good, their's nice hops in there. Not that complex, but hey, it's a lager.

Taste is better with notes of grapefruit and a good bitterness. Pretty much citrus too and the beer is slightly sour, but I like it. Quite refreshing.

Mouthfeel is good. Quite filling and nice.

The drinkability is of course very high. You could easily have a few pints of these. Great.
