Cask from a beer engine at Mikkeller bar in San Francisco
Big bubbly foamy head fades semi slowly, very dark black beer
Nose roasty, big toasty burnt caramel creme Brule like but English biscuity malt, coffee, baking spices, sassafrass syrup, a little cocoa
Taste sweet, loads of burnt caramel, biscuity dough toffee, baking spices, English toffee and biscuits, roasty, little coffee some bitterness, drier finish
Mouth is med bod but light on the carb due to legit cask conditioning
Overall a throwback for sure, reminds me of NERAX.

I had this on tap, listed as Freewheel Stout. I’m posting this review here under the assumption that it is one and the same as the Ironbridge Wenlock.
This pours a coffee-chocolate color with barely any foaming, as per a cask conditioned ale. Light aroma of cocoa nibs and a mellowed roast. The roast is dialed down on the palate and there’s more of a mild bitter chocolate hint that could be dialed up for more definition. Thinly bodied with a quick finish.
