Poured from a bottle into a tumbler pint, the beer is a dark, almost black with ruby highlighting. Slight, light, frothy, off-white head that settles into a ring on the surface. Aromas of smoke and roast, with a coffee backbone and earthy overtones. Flavors are heavily roasted, with a touch of peat to it, overriding a bitter, dry coffee backbone. Good, oaky charring at the end of the palate and into the aftertaste. Bitter and roasty throughout. Light and dry in mouth, with a dry, clean finish.

12oz bottle, pours black with ruby hues when held to a light, foamy tan head sticks around for a while. Aromas are similar to tastes: roasted barley, chocolate, creamed coffee, finishes slightly dry. Medium bodied and smooth. Overall, nothing wrong with this Irish stout, but nothing special about it either.

I had this a few weeks ago, and I hated it. I figured it was because I already had a few beers in me at the time, so I decided to try it again yesterday, nothing changed.
A: Pitch Black, looks almost like a Guinness, which is promising.
S: Malty, earthy, coffee like, so far so good, not overpowering either.
T: This is where everything goes south. Wayyy too strong and over powering for my liking, extra bitter and just coffee like. Its like drinking the strongest coffee ever brewed, but in beer form.
M: Super heavy in the mouth, not only that, but it also didn't sit well in my stomach. I felt like crap after drinking it, made be slightly ill on both occasions that i tried it
O: Not my cup of tea. When I have trouble drinking a beer, then you know there is a problem. Tried to give the rest of the six pack away, but everyone who tried it didn't like it. Ended up putting it in an elevator.
If I'm looking for an Irish Stout, I'm gonna get Guinness. It's a shame too cuz I like George Killian's Red Ale fine. This one didn't do it for me, if you like overly strong and heavy beer that doesn't sit well in ur stomach, then go right ahead, but I'm gonna pass.

The beer pours a pitch black color with a thick frothy tan head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is decent. It has a thin, earthy, black malt scent that's bone dry and bitter and so good. The taste is decent as well. Again, it has a bone dry, black malt flavor. It's pretty one sided and lacks any real complexity, but it drinks fantastic. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a medium/full bodied beer with adequate/good carbonation. This is a very accessible Irish stout that great for those who want something a little lighter than Guiness.

In all honesty, I think this is a terrible rendition of an Irish stout. This beer is not even in the same league with the likes of regular canned or bottled Guinness. While it does have some of the coffee and chocolate notes one would expect from an Irish stout, the skunky finish kills all of what little one might be able to savor from the "malts". Additionally, it's over-carbonated which only further distracts from the malt.

A - Poured an adequate head. Black, but not pitch black but more of a really dark brown.
S - Smelled a touch sweet, not rich, not strong, surely not arrogant, but was overall pleasant regardless of being mild.
T - watery and weak. It made me think "stout lager". It bore stout likeness but I have a hard time believing it really.
M - not enough. I think that sums it up.
O - As a previous review read, its an entry level stout. Killians Irish Red is a good conversion beer to get the typical Bud drinkers to the "Dark Side" that is always better on tap than in a bottle. If this follows that model, I look forward to a tap version, but the bottle I had left me with the idea they want to hit a broader market than they will get with this one for long term.
I would drink it again, but not gonna be in a hurry. Not when New Hollands Poet & Dragons Milk are availble and I have my own Stouts aging in my basement.
