handsome hue of amber with a solid thick offwhite head, nice lacing.

aroma of floral hops.

mouthfeel; yep.

flavor; malty without any adjuncts that I could perceive, spicy, grassy hoppiness that is balanced against the crystal malt with a slight spicy finish.

so this is a Coors product. first time I've ever bought one. it was an impulse buy at Wegmans. To be honest, it's not bad. could be a lawnmower beer for sure.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

A: Pours a rusty golden-amber color. Brilliant clarity. Two fingers of a bone white, wet and creamy head retain very well. A thin, fine-bubbled layer of lacing blankets the glass. High marks for appearance.

S: Sweet corn and a light grainy scent. Bready and doughy yeast. Grassy hops. Fairly straightforward, but actually quite appealing on the nose.

T: Sweet corn, bready and toasted grain. Light caramel. Slight touch of doughy yeast. Zing of herbal hops mid-palate is reminiscent of thyme. Herbal hop character builds and shifts a little. Very clean. Dry cereal grains lead into the finish and close it out nicely along with a fading herbal hop presence.

M: Medium bodied. Nice presence in the mouth; slight firmness, ultra creamy. Moderate scrubbing carbonation. Very smooth.

O: As much as many beer aficionados love to bash BMC products, there's really nothing to hate here. This is a nicely done beer all around. It's straightforward and simple enough, but it doesn't hold back. There's some real malt character and hop taste to it. For once it seems that Coors isn't totally pandering to the lowest common denominator by making a safe but lifeless beer. Batch 19 may be the game changer. This beer can compete.

Notes: The branding seems to be piggybacking on what some craft brands are already doing, namely Brooklyn (see Brooklyn Lager and its pre-prohibition plug) and Pretty Things (the historical recipes series). They also seem to be trying to tap into that rebellious craft beer spirit. Mixing in a little bit of that old-timey throwback feel too. It works though. It'll be interesting to see how this sells down the line and where they go with it.

Bottle displays what appears to be a best by date: May 27, 2013.

Poured into a pokal glass. Pours copper with a thick, slowly dissipating white head. Some lacing is left on the side of the glass. The beer has a bready and sweet smell from the malt. The hops bring some grassy and citrus notes in the nose. The flavor is of bread with those grassy hops that add some nice bitterness and balance to this beer. I also get some of those citrus hop flavors and not as much corn flavor one would find in regular Coors. This is to be expected because there is much less corn used in this recipe than in regular Coors. There is some caramel sweetness that opens up during consumption as well. The body is light to medium with moderate carbonation. The beer finishes crisp and the drinkability is high. This is an excellent beer. The big boys aren't sitting tight in this market and this throwback recipe is an example of what they are capable of brewing.

COORS : batch 19

Pre-prohibition Style Lager

LOOK: Pours a bright gold color with a chill haze. Frothy white head forms and leaves plenty of lacework on the pint glass. Good retention, but hazy for the style. Most if not all of pre-prohibition lagers were unfiltered, so at least this is historically forgivable.

SMELL: Ultra clean grain, menthol like hops smell that is medicinal and even soothing to the nostril. A bit of corn on the back end.

TASTE: Clean grainy malt flavor, mild leafy hops and a minute bitterness. A touch of earth and faint pine. Even getting a bit of wheat from this, but it could be the corn and possible rice playing tricks on me. It is one of the cleaner examples of this style I've had to date.

FEEL: Light to light-medium bodied brew, a bit of thickness to it for an American adjunct lager.

OVERALL: A stylistically exceptional lager that is very clean and well defined. Super refreshing, Coors should replace all of their standard products with this, most of their customers wouldn't notice the difference, but BeerAdvocates certainly would.

20oz on tap for $3 at Sugarbush Tavern in Chesterfield Twp., Michigan.

Appearance: Came a pretty nice brownish color with a decent head. There was minimal lacing, and there was virtually none by the time I hit the bottom.

Smell: A corny, malty, adjunct smell, but MUCH better than what I'm used to from the style.

Taste/feel: Well above anything else I've had from the style. There's some of that adjunct in the flavor, but the malt is much more pleasant than what I'm used to. The feel is also nice, as it's smooth and easy drinking. At 5.5% ABV and without any offensive flavors or smells, this is a VERY good choice if you have the option ... especially for the price. Far and away the best of the style.

Appearance – Pours a golden amber colored brew with a one finger white head. The head fades rather fast to leave a nice level of lacing.

Smell- The aroma is heaviest of a bready and caramel smell. Mixed with these aromas is a light hop smell of a citrus and earthy nature

Taste – The taste begins with flavors of bread and some caramel sweetness. As the flavor advances a light roasted malt flavor comes to the tongue along with some hop flavors of an earthy nature come to the tongue. As the flavor advances more to the end, it crisps up more as the caramel flavors diminish some and more bready flavors comes to the tongue. With these transitions more hop flavors of a light citrus nature come to the tongue as well and leave a lightly hopped crisp flavor on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the lighter side in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is very average. It’s pretty decent for the style as it is smooth and matched the crispness and light hop flavors of the brew fairly well.

Overall – A nice easy drinking and good session brew. It has enough hop flavor to make it somewhat exciting, but it still maintains an easy and relatively clean lager taste.

A - Amber color with a white head that doesn't dissipate quickly.

S - strong smell. very pleasent.

T - Greast taste. Strong first impression with a moderate lingering after taste

F - good carbonation. Strong sense of individualality.

O - Great brew. Would drink again and recommend. I enjoyed it straight from the bottle and from a frosted Mason Jar :)

On-tap at The Boulevard, on to the beer:

Looks like the color of brass with a tint of amber. Head retention is fair, the lacing good. The nose is relatively soft, but does offer a few perks of aromas. There are quick bursts of piney and citrus juice notes, and a soft fruity background. The taste offers less of the fruit and a lot more breadiness. Slightly sweet tasting, with a kiss of hops. A twang of fruit breaks the mold, ye the beer remains balanced. It's a light medium bodied beer with a pleasant crispness, helping make Batch 19 refreshing.

Approachable American lager that's easy to drink. And coming from Coors, which is noteworthy, as I was told that Batch 19 was the name of the brewery, not a beer made by Coors.

A-Deep, golden with a nice head poured into a standard pint glass.

S-Light, malty and smooth smelling

T-Great balanced flavor, with a lot of different notes standing out. Maltiness, a hint of hop or a "sharp edge," but overall extremely smooth and flavorful.

M-Good smooth mouthfeel, not overly carbonated but not heavy either.

O-Great overall. I picked it up from a local grocery sore first, and have since been asking / requesting for it at a few local bars. No tap handles yet to be seen but a few places offer it in bottles.

Transparent golden color lager with thick head. Descent retention and no lacing.

Grainy, bread-like aroma with a hint of orange.

Whole wheat malt flavor. Assertive hop character, citrus and soap. Honey sweetness. Fairly well balanced and complex without many adjunct flavors.

Medium bodied and well carbonated. Slick in the middle and drying in the end.

Much more interesting that most brews that come out of Coors, both in flavor and body. Hardly seems like an adjunct lager at all. I'm impressed.

I was given a 6 pack of this as part of an Xmas tip from one of my favorite customers.

Served in a dimpled mug while intentionally attempting to be needlessly verbose and slightly pretentious with unimpressive literary references.

Golden copper body like the color of a Domani' merchant's skin, with an off white head, 2 fingers in breadth, and a rather weak penchant for retaining its stately form, much like a college freshman whose boyfriend recently ended their love affair without a warning nor sign of love's failing.

This reminds me of a BMC amber lager in aroma and flavor. And in regards to the light, thin, highly carbonated body.
Very sweet-- but a cheap, artificial or adjunct sweetness with a touch of sweet and grainy malt.

Overall-- I don't hate this. I don't revile or loathe it, but I will not be replenishing my stock once this 6 pack expires from consumption by me, my guests, or my kitchen sink.

I feel this beer is aimed directly at casual craft beer drinkers, much the way fork-root tea appears to be aimed directly at Aes Sedai. This feels like a beer that many people will only buy once because they "fall for it" and beleive this to be genuine craft.
We have seen the future of BMC tactics, like a general taking prisoner of the opposition's messengers in time to discover their strategy--
BMC shall be hitting us with pseudo-craft brands.

A-Deep, regal golden color....nice white head that rims glass.

S-Light bready malt characteristics...some caramel as well.

T-I really like the flavor of this....nice maltiness....bready with some caramel notes...also some dark fruit (plums) notes at times as it finishes with a light twang of hoppiness which reminds more of a light cherry like tartness than bitterness...

M-Medium bodied to the light side of medium bodied....finishes slightly dry...firm carbonation..

O-I seemed to like the first few bottles of this more than now when I am sitting down to review. Didn't pickup the tart finish as much previously. Regardless this is a nice beer for an adjunct lager. I've read some criticism about the actually effort to reduplicate this beer and how they fell short and what they could have done better. I agree with those thoughts but this drinks ok anyhow. Wouldn't buy it for the price again but if priced like a regular BMC I'd pick it up from time to time..

The deep golden color, and one finger thick head, made for an attractive looking pour. The smell was pretty nondescript malts, and just a shade of hops. The taste was a simple mix of sweet corn cereal, light hops, and some toffee. Very clean in mouth, like a lager should be, with somewhat vegetal finish. This was head and shoulders above anything else from Coors, that I have ever had, but it was nothing I would go out and search for.

A: Pours a clear golden with a two finger dense white head. Ample carbonation visible in the body. Pretty good lacing.

S: I get light malts like wheat and a hint of hops in the background.

T: A balanced light taste of malts and hops that ends with a slight fruit taste. Some alcohol on the backend. Better cold.

M: Light body, pretty good carbonation. Very easy drinking.

Overall its a good attempt by Coors and hopefully it will lead more people into craft beer.

Good looking, golden and clear with rising bubbles and a nice two finger head that had staying power and left nice lace.

Aroma was light, grains predominantly but some sweet maltiness.

Taste was actually pretty good. It's a little sweet at first, but a dry graininess, followed by some hay and a bit of a crisp hops bite follows up quickly. There's a light corn and malt base, along with a little caramel too.

Body is very light and pretty well carbonated, extremely easy to drink.

I bought a single of this in a mixer sixer just to try/review it. I didn't realize it was a Coors product, but I probably would have tried it anyway. I must say that this beer is pretty damn good stuff, and that I actually hope that Coors markets it well and it sells well to their base customers. It has flavor, head, and color, and while not really the go-to choice for a hophead like me, I'm sure that your average BMC drinker would enjoy this beer. I would not complain if I went to a party and this was the only beer they had.

This is a very good American Adjunct Lager.

One of the more impressive AALs and even more impressive it comes from Coors. Pours a clear, pale amber color with just over one finger of head that had good retention. Surprisingly heavy amount of lacing is left down the glass. Aroma of sweet malt and hay/grass- like hop qualities. Nice clean flavor that is just a little too sweet for me. The hops are a little more assertive than todays AALs, but it is not enough to balance the sweetness. The hops give some grassy flavor. Good body and carbonation. Enjoyable lighter beer texture with lively carbonation. Nice that Coors is branching out a bit and offering an interesting lager. Maybe not enough to warrant another purchase from me, but should appeal to other pale lager drinkers.

Appearance:
Amber-gold color, clear. Lots of small bubbles rising up to the top. Thick frothy head. Leaves a very nice lacing behind.

Aroma:
Very strong aroma... Citrus-spicy hops, sweet malts, a little piney.

Taste:
Sweet malts, bready, toasted, a little caramel, just a dash of corn. Hop bitterness is medium, sharp, but mainly citrus-piney. Finish is very dry. Body is light-medium, carbonation is very active, crisp.

A- golden color with a small head that recedes pretty quick leaving little lacing.
S- the only below average aspect of the beer, slight corn/straw smell.
T- nice balance of sugary malts and slight hop presence. the hops and some straw malts help keep this from being too sweet. very sessionable.
M- average carbonation - average body. not bad.
O- more flavor than most of its style, yet not too sweet. a lot like a euro pale ale. not a bad option if you're looking for a decent lighter beer.

Strangely not too bad for a Coors product.

Poured a clear golden color with a thin fizzy head; no real retention or lacing to speak of. Sweetness of pale malts in the nose, light leafy hops, spent grains. Toasted grains in the taste with an unexpected honey sweetness, backed by light leafy hops as detected in the aroma. Light body, easily drinkable, but overall lacking in flavor and complexity, as any basic adjunct lager would be. Still not bad, all things considered.

deep golden with a thick white foamy head that stayed around for awhile. smell was sweet with a little teabag type hop in the background. taste was overly sweet for me, but it went GREAT with the hot, fresh cheese pizza that i had with it. it complemented the crust and cheese in a fine way. i also had it with a bunch of tacos a few nights later...again, solid with food. it has a medium heavy mouthfeel and goes down very smoothly. again, the only complaint i have is that it is a bit overly sweet for me to enjoy without food. good offering from coors, though...by far and away the most taste in a bmc beer i have had.

The appearance is a deep bronze, mildly carbonated, with a thick white head. The taste is hop forward, but not overly hoppy, balanced out with malt character. Batch 19 is a well rounded brew. This is a very solid offering from Coors. I can't help but think that many reviewers are biased because this is produced by a big brewer. I will definitely keep this one in my rotation, and I advise any beer lover to at least give this one a shot.

A: Pours a deep gold with a medium white head, good retention, light lace.

S: Lots of sugary malt, smells a lot like a macro amber lager, shades of Yuengling.

T: Sweet bready malt, almost an Oktoberfest like flavour. Some grassy hops at the end.

M: Light-bodied, crisp, clean, pretty well made.

O: It's weird comparing this to other adjunct lagers since this on another level; really this is a beer to compare to the amber lagers and the Euro lagers of the day. Drinkable, a little to sugary, but a solid effort.

From the bottle into a pilsner glass results in a very appealing slightly hazed golden body with a nice one inch fluffy head that slowly recedes into a thin cap and lacing on the sides a cascade of champaign like bubbles rises continuously to the top keeping things lively.
Aroma is bready cracker, grain with just a touch of floral hops. very clean smelling, nice
Taste is just right for the style, grain, cracker, a slight corn sweetness followed by a subtle hop bitterness, this brew begs to be chugged, it is refreshing in the extreme. Medium bodied for the style, but still a great thirst quencher.
Overall I'm impressed, Coors CAN produce a tasty lager, they should do this more often.
Recommended, I will certainly buy again.

A - Dark for the style. Slightly hazy. Nice little foamy white head with a smattering of dish soap lace.

S - Mildly flowery on top of some creamed corn notes. There is a strange and slightly "off" note of medicinal herbs, but I like it.

T - Caramel, creamed corn, butternut squash, and some herbal tea hop notes. Chamomile.

M - Wow. This is a solidly built beer.... especially for the style. Big carbonation leads to a hint of cream before flipping a switch over to desiccating dryness. Lingering grassy and limey hops.

I cracked this thinking it would be a gimmick, as in "let's bottle some slightly thicker 'Silver Bullet' and market it as something historical." Well, turns out that this is actually a really good brew! If this is what macro lagers were like back in 1919, fire up the DeLorean and take me back!
