On tap at Elways - Cherry Creek. I believe this beer suffers in ratings as a result of it's brewer, Coors. One of the better Adjunct Lagers out there, in my opinion. On to the review:

Beer arrived in a pint glass, translucent golden amber color with a finger's width of white bubble foam, good retention and lacing. The nose is malty sweet with hints of earthy hops and caramel sweetness. The flavor is mild and approachable with a solid malt foundation and mild bitterness. Well balanced without a hint of skunk that is so prevalent with the style. Finishes clean and crisp. Good. Lighter bodied but not watered down, nice, easy to drink. Overall, again one of the better adjunct lagers out there.

Enjoyed this on tap out for dinner with the family. Would have liked about five more. This was served well chilled in a Batch 19 tulip style pint glass.

A) Really nice looking golden amber. It was clean and clear. There was a nice finger of creamy white head on this one. The head settled to a dusting, and there was some nice lacing too. This was photo quality right here.

S) There is sweet malt aroma, little hint of caramel. This is followed by a pleasing hint of earthy hops. As I nipped on this one a bit, I picked up a little green grape aroma too.

T) Close to the nose. This has really nice balance. I didn't find this to have any of those off flavors, that typically keep me from drinking adjunct lagers. Nice malt presence, but not overly sweet. It mingles well with a touch of hops, that provides just the right amount of bitterness. This finishes clean, slightly dry, with a good aftertaste.

M) Really nice feel, definitely not thin. This is on the lighter side of medium, not over carbonated. It's smooth, nearly creamy. This goes down easy.

O) This was darn good. If your looking to tip back a few lagers during the game, or just hanging out, my advice would be not to overlook this option, simply because of the brewer.

Found this on tap at the Peddlers Daughter in Nashua.
Pours a deep golden color that borders on red with a decent white head that displays moderate retention and lace. Smell is sweet grainy bready malt with a smattering of spicy earthy hops to counter the malt. Taste is quite sweet, almost too sweet with honey like bready malt. Bits of corn spice and earth try to cut through the sweetness and almost succeed. Medium body and carbonation with a sweet sticky mouthfeel. Not bad for an adjunct lager and I would certainly pick this one over most others.

Pours a clear, gold color. 1/2 inch head of a white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of pale malt, grain, slight sweet malt, and slight citrus hops. Fits the style of an American Adjunct Lager. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of grain, pale malt, citrus hops, and slight sweet malt. Overall, great appearance, and for an Adjunct good aroma and taste.

A: 1.5 finger head with some lace. Clear light amber color.

S: light caramel malt on the nose.

T: malt and bread up front. Finishes with a apple/coriander sweetness.

M: moderate to high carbonation.

Overall: This wasn;t a bad beer. I enjoyed it at the brewery in Golden. Drinkable and smooth.

Saw this on tap at Penguin Pizza on Sat. I have not really seen it around very much here, and even though I knew it was a Coors product, I thought I'd give it a try. Served in a standard pint glass. Muted yellow color to the body. Decent amount of carbonation, with a small head at first. Smell was nothing special, sot of like all other macros. Flavor was a bit better than I was expecting. Pretty mellow taste, but it has some nice notes of malt. Plus the mouthfeel was somewhat thicker than other examples from the BMC catalog. Not a bad beer; I'd order one again if the choices were limited. Worth a shot to try once.

On tap at Miller Park, since Miller and Coors are the same thing now. Figure since I got no plans to head to CO, and since this has got a real limited distribution, I better give it a go.

Described as a pre-prohibition lager, which I used to think meant "all malt" but now realize means "somewhat hoppy adjunct." And that's exactly what it was: thin pour, full body, dry and lightly bitter American-style lager. Strong cereal grains, almost like eating a bowl of barley, and then some rounded, bitter, east coast hops.

Served in a Batch 19 tulip pint glass at Wool Street.

Never thought I'd actually see this brew out by me, but then Serendipity came along and randomly dropped it in my lap at a local watering hole. It pours a clear russet-ish straw (this may have just been the weird light in the bar...) topped by a finger of white foam. The nose comprises light wheat, light corn (straight from the cob, baby), and mineral water. The taste brings things up a bit, with notes of wheat, caramelized pilsner malts (damn homebrewing...), flowers, light grass, and a twinge of grapefruit peel in the back. The body is a hefty-leaning light, with a light moderate carbonation and a crisp finish. Overall, I think this is the best Coors product I've had in a long time. I really hope it stays on in the area, so that I can have a nice alternative to the usual BMC nonsense where craft is not abundant. Not all that bad, I gotta tell ya.

On tap at We the Pizza in Washington DC. Pours a medium glowing golden with a small white head. Aroma of pale malt, some sweet caramel, grainy and a touch of honey. Flavor is much of the same, a bit of honey, pale grain and slightly bland. A fairly strong metallic flavor I wasn't big on. Finishing lightly bitter and a touch of grassy hops. Light to medium body and a fairly high carbonation. Interesting what they are going for, though could have been better still.

Had this at Dillinger's in Chicago - a bar a few feet from the historic Biography Theatre, the place where John Dillinger was shot. The Blackhawks were playing the Dallas Stars, while DePaul college hipsters were engaged in a game of bar trivia.

It had clear deep gold color with a foamy white head.

S: Unlike many mass produced lagers, which can have metallic corn like smells, this one had a more refined aroma.

T: It was a little different from the normal macro lagers. The hops had more of a presence. I had a slight pale taste that was on the dry side. There was a corn/graininess to the flavor but it was not offensive.

Overall: this had a clean taste, basically it had a refined adjunct lager quality. I wouldn't go looking for this but I am glad I tried it.
I can say this, I would prefer this over many other adjunct lagers. This is one of the better tasting examples of the style.

From 6/4/10 notes. Had on tap at Saloon in DC.

a - golden amber color one finger flully white head

s - Smells of light citrus, faded hops.

t - Taste of bread malty and some faded citrus hops.

m - Medium body and high carbonation.

d - Not much going on in this beer. Some light citrus hops that are faded but not much else. Not bad for a Coors product but wouldn't look to have again.

Served on draft in one a few test markets in the US, at McTeagues's Saloon in San Francisco.
A - Poured a pale amber in a 16 oz. (strangely enough; N.B. Ranger IPA) glass. Slight head which diminished in less than 90 seconds. Minimal lacing.
N - Olfactory coefficient was relatively low. Very subtle aromas of hops and malted barley. Perhaps a slightly musty odor also evident.
T - Pleasant, but not extraordinary. There is nothing offensive about this lager, but nothing exceptional either. The most predominant features are a smooth malty flavor combined with a very mild bitterness derived from the hops. Floral notes are minimal.
M - This lager has an above average mouthfeel, IMO. It is mildly creamy and definitely smooth. Once again, it is pleasant, but not exceptional.
Given that this is a product of the SA/Miller/Coors conglomeration, this beer is a solid average to above-average brew. The bar tendress at this saloon commented that numerous patrons had come to the bar in search of this particular beverage. According to her testimony, upon realizing that is was within their grasp, many expressed that they had achieved beer Nirvana! I am unwilling to extend that degree of self actualization! I am grateful that I was able to sample this self described 'Pre-Prohibition Recipe Lager', but I would not go out of my way to find it in the future.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep gold color, with a short white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains light caramelized malts, lager yeast, adjuncts and a faint touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out with some malt & adjunct sweetness. Then a very mild hops presence comes in. The malt character is a bit heavier than most beers in the style and brings some balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: A little crisp and a little smooth, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: A bit flavorful, goes down ok, not too filling, mild kick, decent representation of style, considering the style it’s not too bad but there are other similar beers that I would choose first.

Batch 19 claims to be a pre-prohibition style lager, I guess that means it actually an amber.

The brews got a bold flavor and good presence, but lacks it a memorable pour of odor. I was overall happy with its taste, but am not of the opinion that it is one of the better ambers I've had.

Pours to a rich white head and minimal lacing. Gold/amber color. Aroma is grass, earthy hops and sweet grains, some DMS. Flavor is sweet, corny, slightly malt and not quite balanced by the hops. Mouthfeel is not bad. On the intangibles, this beer works pretty well. The hop flavors are approaching APA levels and the flavors are strong, although it could stand to be a bit drier and less chewy for a lager that is not a bock or Marzen.

Solid golden color with some off-white froth on top. Sweet, clean malt and grassy, spicy hop aromas. More noble-like hops in he mouth with some added floral character, sweet-ish cereal grain, hay, and fruity yeast. Pretty crisp and lightly bitter. Not too shabby all around, for what it is.

A: Pours a clear gold with a thin, clinging white head. Head retention is surprisingly good. Only a modest amount of lace is present in the glass.

S: Subtle aromas of caramel, crackers, biscuits, lemon, lime, straw, and grass take some time to express themselves. If the aroma were a bit stronger, this would be a very inviting lager.

T: Notes of grass, straw, herbs, lemon, and lime from the Noble hops give way to grainy malt notes of honeycomb, biscuits, crackers, caramel, and white bread. The finish is clipped and dry with notes of honey, crackers, grass, herbs, and very mild citrus.

M: On the lighter side of medium in terms of body and initially waxy, though it dries out before the fade. Carbonation is not intense, which is very surprising, as most AALs are harsh and fizzy due to overcarbonation. Very easy to drink.

O: In the end, this is a good, refreshing lager. I really appreciate the fact that the flavor displays a bit of complexity and the body has some depth to it. I don't know how well this will go over with either beer geeks or BMC guzzlers, but this is far from a bad effort. Recommended to those with an open mind.

Coppery to light amber in color there was a great deal of carbonation. This carbonation built a quickly fleeting head and once it settled, gave a flat appearance.

The scent was weakly malted, slightly toasted and a bit stale.

The taste was a bit the same with some malty, roasted, nutty and grainy qualities. Somewhat bland but not much more than average this is not a ringing endorsement for bootleggers beer.

I can't believe my 400th review is a Coors product. A friend of mind had a few bottles of this in his fridge during a recent visit and encouraged me to take one home and try it. I'm glad I did. Not so much because it's a great beer, because it's not, but because I always enjoy trying new beers.

Nothing special in appearance, but not a thin weakly looking beer either. Amber straw color with little lace. The nose reeks of adjunct malt, but whatever. It's not offensive. It is what I thought it would be. The taste, however, is not too terribly bad. It's not great, or even all that good, but I've had far worse. Kinda funky tasting, but I blame the Coors beer yeast for that. Mouthfeel is actually worthwhile. Not too thin, and decently smooth.

On the whole, this is not a very good beer. But it's not the worst beer I've ever reviewed either. Not worthy of my 400th review, but whatever. I don't regret any of the 400 beers I've had en route to this moment. No reason to start now.

Appearance: crystal amber body with a one finger white head and it leaves some lacing on the glass

Aroma: faint spicy hops; dough; not much else

Flavor: grassy, spicy hops, pink peppercorn, lightly roasted caramel, lightly toasted grains, flavors come together for a nice lager

Mouthfeel: super fine carbonation feel – like a flat fizz; soft wool like; soft pink peppercorn spice on the back; dry lightly toasted notes with a touch of spice on the aftertaste that linger;

To the Point: have to say I did not expect much from this product; after being tortured with that Third Shift crap – what else do you expect from the big beer companies trying to compete with the craft beer segment … a good beer … yeah right. Oh yeah, right! This is good. I will buy it again for sitting around the campfire up north.

At first glance the box and bottles are very appealing. The "Pre-Prohibition" definitely sold me.

The beer itself is Good, not great, but definitely good. Taste is solid with a small but noticeable aftertaste that stays in the mouth for a minute. When poured into a glass the color is a nice golden amber, leaving a small brim that continues to stay as you drink.

Overall It's a good beer, I would recommend it to others who have not tried it and possibly will get it again! Thumbs up!

Poured from the bottle into an old Budweiser shorty pilsner glass.

A pale amber body, with hints of chestnut brown throughout. Lots of stuck cola carbonation on the glass, and lots of fast rising carbonation also. Head forms with an incredibly milk formation, but is classic white and settles to a thin puck.

Hard to describe this nose. Light toasty caramel and popcorn like sweet. It smells like caramel popcorn which is kind of fun I must admit.

Palate comes with a very light body. Nearly crisp finish with a hint of quick sticky caramel. Sweetness follows on the tongue with a little bit of crackery malt sensations. Quite a good thirst quencher.

Overall this is a real interesting take on the style, quite memorable.

Well I'll be....I'd heard rumors that if you went to the tap room at the Coors plant in Golden, CO, they actually had some really good small batch beers...available only there. I've always considered regular Coors beer watery and nearly taste-free--I'll take a PBR over all the macro-beers. This beer though is quite lovely, with a sweet malty nose and noticeable hops in the taste--like a good basic German or maybe more Czech, lager. Sweet, slightly corn, but extremely well balanced against the hops. I'm guessing this is about 25 IBUs or so, which is right in the running for Czech or German lagers. Clean palat-cleansing finish--a very satisfying session beer. If only NORMAL Coors were so good!

Proves too that pre-prohibition American lagers really were/are respectable, decent beers, which shouldn't be despised by the IPA-or-nothing crowds....

This really is a great beer, all the more for the fact that a macro-brewery made it...proving those guys really are capable of making delicious beers--if American consumers actually demanded them...

I was quite surprised actually, have always enjoyed Coors over most American brews so perhaps it appealed to my taste buds easily.

The smell of the hops was very good and its overall taste was better than adverage. Will I purchase it again, only if my choices are poor.

I did like the shape of the bottle with the double ring around the neck, but it does nothing to enhance the quality of the beer.

Yes, I would recommend it, especially if you have not tried it already.

Batch 19 is good, not great. I was expecting more from this "pre-prohibition" beer. It's a step above Coors Light for sure, but it's not as remarkable as the label would have you believe. I was expecting a higher ABV content as well. Overall, it's a good beer, but it's not noteworthy enough where I need to have it again.
