Winter can be a grind, but with the abundance of beer flavors cropping up at every turn, like those found in this fruity and spicy ale, it makes those blustery months a little more tolerable.
Wicked Weed's Porch Crawler hits the glass with the rusty haze of prune juice. Heavily hazed, the nearly opaque ale sheds a sturdy blanket of froth that carries the fruit, spice and sweet aromatics. Its robust scent crawls onto the tongue with the toasty sweetness of toffee, brown sugar and molasses and a hearty off-chocolate, off-coffee nuttiness.
Its fruity center is on full display on the middle palate with bold raspberry, blackberry and a sweet honey liquor undertow. Slightly brandy-like with a succulent yet tart balance, the taste takes a peppery tone with the light grassy, vegetal and capsaicin nuance from serrano chilis.
Medium-full on the tongue, the beer's outlasting sweetness keeps the medium-intense fruit flavors supported while offering balance to the heat. Delicately hopped with a stemmy, spicy bite of its own, the finish is warm, spicy and playfully jammy-sweet.

I get a lot of raspberry in the aroma, with a strangely maraschino cherry note and a touch of spice in the flavor. Very interesting cocktail-beer. Seems to be a trend lately.
