Ample, beige head. Clear, red tinged caramel look. Slightly restrained, very caramelized, medium heavily toasted barley malt, with a little butterscotch and toffee note and a touch of wood, for the aroma. Somewhat sharp on the initial taste, that subdues some of the slightly caramel and a touch of wood flavors. The sharpness subsides to allow those flavors to reveal themselves later and into the finish, which is quite good, at the very late stages.

22oz bottle served in a stemless wine glass. Beer pours very brown; in the glass it has a reddish tint and good clarity. Impressive, pillowy chestnut foam. Flavor is big on sweet malty yumminess. Caramel and just a bit of molasses, or maybe treacle. I don't get much in the way of nuttiness, and it tastes very much like a strong (but sweet) brown ale to me. There is just a touch of earthiness present to keep it interesting.

This had a hint of sourness on tap. Don't know if that was intentional or a quality control issue.

Mahogany color with a persistent head, leaves minimal lacing; alcoholic smell with a bit of yeasty banana; taste is that of a solid Scotch ale, slightly peaty, malt forward, with more than a tad bit of alcoholic astringency. Overall quite good. Mouthfeel seems a wee light for the style, but whatevs.
