Irishagain and his lovely wife brought me here this holiday season when I went up for a visit. He's been telling me about this place for years and I was glad to finally see what all the hype was about.
Another former post office, I like that. Quite the North Shore feel to place, I felt like I was home again. It was easy to see this was the local place to be.
We sat at a bar table and our server was attentive and friendly. Beers didn't have a chance to empty, she took care of that right away.
I was amazed by the selection here, which represented local and far off breweries alike. A quality selection as well, most of the dozen or so taps were craft beers. Nothing wrong with that.
The food was terrific, but I wasn't prepared for the price, although I should have been, this is Hamilton after all. I definitely felt the price for the apps and entre were reasonable given the quality of the food.
Bottom line is I really like this place and I'm looking forward to my next visit.

My wife and I received a gift certificate to the Black Cow as a gift and went down on a recent Saturday night to have some dinner. The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere with a nice L shaped dark wood bar and a horse themed decorations on the walls. On the restaurant side I thought seats were a bit close together as I had to move my seat in a couple of times to let others by. It also got very loud when the place filled up due to the close proximity of each table.
The beer list was nice, but I thought the prices were a bit high, Even for a high end restaurant. To be fair they had some specials (Spatan Oktoberfest) for $4.00, but other beers, like Harpoon IPA, cost $4.50 and a few were higher still. Other selections included Ipswich Ale, Stone Cat and several macros. I did appreciate that they included the price of each beer on their menu and poured it into the proper glass.
Our dinners were great and well portioned and desserts were decadent. My one issue with the food was that there was not a lot to choose from. If I recall correctly there were about 6 or 7 appetizers and around 15 entrees. I would have liked a bit more diversity.
The Black Cow is a nice elegant restaurant with good food and a descent beer selection. It is a high end restaurant with white table cloths, so keep that in mind as it will cost more than your average dining establishment. The next time I go I'll have to try to bar menu.

The Black Cow Tap & Grill in downtown Hamilton, Massachusetts has a wonderful selection of beers on tap. The atmosphere is up scale (this is Hamilton, Massachusetts!) but not coat and tie. I have been in in the afternoon with paint splattered sweats on and been treated quite nicely. The beers on tap range from Corsendonk to Tucher Pilsner and Ipswich Ale to Sam Smiths Oatmeal Stout. They also have a single malt scotch selection of 20+ types for those who like the other side of the barley. The service is pleasant and friendly. The food is also very nice. It ranges from Very nice pub grub to very fine nouveaux american. It is and can be a little on the pricy side but once again I remind you that it is Hamilton, Massachusetts.
