Blatt Beer & Table is a new "gastropub" just across the street from the TD Ameritrade Park in north downtown Omaha. It's attached to the Zesto ice cream shop, and owned by the Flagship Restaurant Group.
They've gone for a retro look with a concrete floor that's painted/stained brown, exposed brick walls, garage doors on both sides, dark wood, Edison-style lightbulbs and an exposed ceiling. There are some nice bits to it: the recovered-wood table tops, the wide copper foot rail at the base of the bar, and the old and rusted tin ceiling that was used used to make the bar base; but at the same time it's all kind of fake. The exposed brick is not real, it's just "lick and stick" as architects would call it; the underside of the structure is just simply painted black without anything interesting added; and the wooden frames around the big screen TVs scream of pretentiousness. On the other hand, if they're expecting a raucous sports crowd what's the sense in really putting money out for something that won't be appreciated or respected?
That said, the brick on the walls may be fake, but the service and the food are not. I was quite impressed by how well my party was taken care of; and the food was quite good. I thought the burger was way over priced at $11 plus an additional $1 each for cheese and bacon, as was the chopped salad at $10 plus another $3 if you add chicken. They do offer happy hour specials on their appetizers, however, and I'd suggest that's the time you should try their $6 duck fat frites for only $4!!!
Before I get to the beer let me point out that in addition to having the garage doors open and additional seating during good weather, there's also a roof-top "Beer Garden".
The beer: 18 taps (and an additional 3 on the roof), all of which are pretty good but include a cider, Guinness, and Newcastle Brown Ale; 25 out of 28 fairly nice bottles, and 4 out of 6 average/decent beers in cans. There's also liquor and wine if needed. Some pricing examples:
Franziskaner Dunkel Weiss on tap $5.75
Weihenstephaner Hefeweisse on tap $5.75
SKA Modus Hoperandi on tap $5.25
Kasteel Rouge in bottle $7.50
Crow Peak Cream Ale in a can $5.00
Overall it's an interesting stop with good (but pricey) food and beer, and very good service.
