Notes:
Brewed with the finest imported German malts and hops, using traditional German brewing techniques, the Texas Backyard Blonde Ale is inspired by the hoppy golden kolsch ales of Cologne. More complex than your average blonde, bready, biscuity malt flavors combine with ample grassy, spicy hops and fruity esters in a crisp, refreshing brew, perfect for steamy Texas days.

On tap at SL Flying Saucer
A: The lace recedes quickly. Good color.
S: Nice toasted malts, little finish.
T: Very grainy.
M/D: Good carbonation, needs better balance for sweet blonde, though.
Notes: Had a free pint, and the Saucer servers have great beer knowledge, just pushing this FB brewery too hard. Have the Southern Star Blond if you're new to the area.

On tap at Down House in Houston, TX
A: Pours a clear golden/yellow color. At first a two finger white head forms, and recedes to a ring. Light lace.
S: Toasted malts, with a light sweetness. Cereal grains, and not much else. Very neutral and middle of the road.
T: Again, light toasted malts and sweetness. Grainy flavors take over. Light diacetyl as this warms. Again just very neutral and inoffensive
M/D: A light body, just a but to light for me. Good carbonation that is crisp and effervescent. Not hard to drink. Something to quaff if in the mood.
Overall, I understand what they are trying to do. Making an easy to drink beer for the masses, and one that might convert a few along the way. Though I have still had better from a Texas brewery in the same style. Like Southern Star Blond, and Real Ale Fireman's 4.
