On tap at Rip Current Brewing in San Marcos, CA.
Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, slight coffee, and an off-putting jalapeno aroma. Taste is much the same with a plastic flavor on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer but there are some weird things I am picking up in the smell and taste.

This one just missed the excellent train. Black as the night, exceptionally viscous, and oozing with all the aromas flavors of a freshly brewed cup espresso, what can go wrong? Someone decided to add too much Kahlua to their coffee, that's what. I could definitely pair this with breakfast though, and mix it with chocolate milkstache, and you get one nice mocha stout suitable for an adult dessert (just add a scoop of vanilla ice cream).

Very nearly black in color, though truly a very dark brown. Dark brown and dark ruby at the edges. There's a small brown head atop the beer, though this one is filled to the brim. This leaves a sheet of lace all the way down the glass. Very pretty. Very sticky.
Lots of coffee in the aroma--smells like freshly ground coffee beans in the morning. There's some miscellaneous roast notes as well, along with just a hint of chocolate, but the coffee is the star of this beer's aroma show.
The fresh ground coffee bean taste follows in the aroma as well. This tastes like freshly-ground coffee beans smell--which is fine by me. There's just a bit of lactose presence, along with a hint of complementary chocolate. Very nice.
Thin to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Very appropriate for the style.
My favorite offering yet from Rip Current. I'm excited to see what the future holds for this very promising, brand new brewery. Glad I live so close!
