Served in a tulip glass.
Finally getting a chance to try some new Chi-Town boys' efforts. This stuff pours a clear dark garnet topped by a finger of dark-ish khaki foam. The nose comprises light ginger, candied orange peel, brown sugar, and very light biscuit. The taste brings in more of the same, with more ginger, more orange (both peel and zest), some very light spearmint, dry toffee, and vague nuts. The problem lies in the fact that none of these elements cooperates with any other, instead choosing to clash and make a racket, disturbing everybody in the process. It all ends up tasting a touch worse than it sounds. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a drying finish. Overall, this ended up a bit of a mess in my eyes, a muddle of good ideas going sideways. I still look forward to trying more from these guys as their recipes and processes progress and hopefully continue to improve.

Shared this at Norse Bar, thanks Aaron!
Served in a small snifter, quick review from notes.
Tawny reddish brown in the glass, nice clarity and head retention. It had a finger of off white foam initially that settled to a skim with a cluster of bubbles to one side. A little bit of spotty lace in the glass.
Aroma was earthy and mildly malty with a mix of spices though nothing stood out really.
Taste was slightly earthy and bitter, slight phenols also. Again it had a prevalent earthiness, like topsoil. Finished very dry from the spicing. Body was sort of light with moderate carb levels. Didn't get much identifiable spice, more of a discordant muddled mix. The label mentioned liquid ginger among other things. Overall I liked GFY Stout better than this second batch from Spiteful. Looking forward to the rest of their lineup down the road.
