like something jacks abby would make, and of course i mean that as a great compliment. an inventive and unique and flawlessly executed lager, pushing the genre forward as a whole, and drinkable for miles. on tap at j ryans in syracuse, it isnt quite porter dark, more of a deep red color, with a tall thick almost nitro looking head on it, and the nose is amazing. subtle coffee, not sure what white coffee beans are, i am assuming a super super light roast, or none at all. the roast in the beer is there though, so it must be from the malts. the coffee is almost buttery in a way, slick and smooth and earthy, sweet and delicate, but flavorful at the same time. hard to place really. its not a dairy thing either, like a latte versus a plain espresso shot, its almost like white chocolate, very very tasty. its not overpowering though, as the grains and in fact the lager yeast also play a large role in it. balanced and smooth, super creamy on the feel, and crisp in the finish. a beer of impressive depth and quality, and aside form the shuggie, it was the best of all the single cut beers i had. really nothing quite like it out there. would love some more info on the coffee they used here...

Considering other scores, maybe the draft line was bad, but aside from light blonde coffee and biscuit notes, it's kind of more a poor lager or something to me, and a little buttery.

On tap at the brewery.

L: Very dark ruby red with frothy light tan head.

S: Sweet candied malt melded with smooth light roast coffee. Almost a sherry quality to it.

T: Much like the aroma, coffee is very present but blended well with the sweet malt. Goes down incredibly easy.

F: Very clean, lighter body

O: I can't say I seek out coffee beers generally but I really did enjoy this one and will say this beer did keep me up for quite a while!
