Notes:
A big, hoppy IPA with plenty of bite! Our assertive, hop-centric Double IPA has a lean malt backdrop and is brewed with four American hop varieties – Summit, Palisade, Cascade and Magnum. Piney, citrus, floral, not-for-the-timid!

12 oz. bottle.
Hazy, sediment-laden, orange copper body. Tall, rocky, light beige cushion of foam. Nice lacing. Fresh hop nose, with notes of pine sap, lemon zest, resin funk, and herbal goodness. Lean sugar cookie malt hides.
Toasted grain quickly gives way to pungent herbal and resinous hop flavor and bitterness. Sugar cookie and tropical fruit malt background. Mango and pineapple mid-palate. Resinous, piny, dank hop bitterness increases into the long, hoppy finish. Lingering caramel and fruit malt. Medium-bodied with a creamy, lightly carbonated (caskish) mouthfeel. Very nice and a welcome addition to the Connecticut beer scene!

Twelve ounce bottle in a pint glass. Mix a six pick up at Total Wine in Norwalk CT.
Pours orange hazy with white foam. Strong malty nose. Lots of foam. Sticky to the side. Strong pine taste, firm, blends in and then drops off. Next round gets tougher. Real hoppy. Lighter on the carbonation. Much going on.

This being my second time trying Road 2 Ruin since it became available in stores, I figured a review was necessary. Poured into a Unibroue pint.
A: Vibrant orange, noticeably filtered with ample head.
S: Hop-heavy, with a bit of malt. It even smells bitter.
T: Very bitter at first--almost too bitter so as to dull the hop profiles--but this recedes into a more pleasant, complex, and mild citrus hop and finally a bit of malt.
M: Standard for a DIPA, very substantial.
O: While Worker's Comp is undoubtedly the best thing coming out of Stratford, Road 2 Ruin is the runner up. However, since there are a significant amount more respectable and widely-available IPAs and DIPAs out there--even in Connecticut--this one has higher standards to live up to than the ever-elusive saison. The natural comparison for me and likely for others familiar with Connecticut beer, is NEBCOs Gandhi Bot. And, while both represent huge leaps for the Connecticut beer scene of late, there is no question as to the superiority of Gandhi over Ruin. That said, this is definitely worth a try being significantly cheaper and more reliably available than its competitor. A very well done, slightly above-average DIPA from Two Roads, just not particularly exceptional.

My first "double ipa" !
Poured from bottle to a Sam Adams Glass.
Great fluffy head and beautiful dark amber, almost red color.
Smell was very light until the beer warmed a bit and then the piney notes came out.
Had a solid taste and smooth mouthfeel, but the overwhelming, lingering bitterness after the swallow darkened the overall experience.
The beer definitely improved as the temperature came up, but the bittnerness remained.
Just not my cup of brew...
