Notes:
This award-winning dark ale is surprisingly smooth and drinkable. Caramel, molasses and chocolate flavors fill the palate. Its sweet start is perfectly balanced by a roasted dry finish. Nitrogen-conditioned.

Reviewed 12/18/2009 (Tap @ BJs Clear Lake, Houston, TX):
Pours a very very dark brown color body, almost black. Smallish creamy tan colored head, lastingish. Roasted aroma, some nuttiness. A little coffee. Some milky, creamy sweetness. Not very strong. Creamy mouthfeel, smooth. Some roastiness, coffee and sweetness. Pretty clean, a little watery, like a porter. Tasty. Very good lasting lacing.

A - Black, with a mocha head that retains and laces well.
S/T - A little light considering the robust nomenclature. Smooth roasted malt rolls into dark chocolate tastes with a slight earthy hop bitterness in the finish.
M - Feels thin, even taking the nitro into account. Turns watery quickly and doesn't have that rich mouthfeel associated with porters.
O - Tastes average, mouthfeel is fairly sub-par though.

Actually had this at the BJ's La Mesa.
Poured from a draft into a pint glass at BJ’s Brewery in La Mesa, Calif. Color was very dark brown, just a tad bit lighter than the Tatonka Stout. About an inch of head. Tan lacing on the top. Smooth film on the sides.
Smelled of sweet chocolate malts. A tad whiff of coffee and toffee on the other side.
Taste was very similar to the nose. Tasted the chocolate malts up front, followed by caramel and toffee. Some coffee beans came in late.
Full body. Smooth and creamy texture. Average carbonation. Smooth and long finish.
Not a bad beer. I thought this was better than the Tatonka Stout. I’d probably give it another try.

On tap at the Plano, Texas location.
The beer pour a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma has some chocolate and roasted malt notes, as well as some light smoke. The smoke is more intense in the flavor, where there is also some chocolate and roasted malt notes. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
