Not a bad beer, decent for the price I guess. Have never seen this in my area, so bought a 16 oz can when I travelled to Ottawa. Nothing out of this world, but it's ok. Didn't have the bad aftertaste that so many mid-level beers seem to have nowadays. Pretty smooth going down, decent flavor.

Can't help but doing some research into the brand before I sit down and taste. Quite an interesting brand- worth looking into.

Poured from a slightly-too-warm can. Big bouqet of sweet- cakey malts. Carbonation as expected from a lager. Bit of hops sitting in the background.

Taste was sweet, typical of European malts. Relatively full body. Hop finish. As the beer sits, seems to get sweeter.

Overall good beer. Surprising, to be honest. Was expecting a light-macro lager. That's not what I got.

Clear golden colour, white head reduces to a wispy ring.

Floral, soapy hop aroma, with a sweet malt and corn syrup backing. Grassy and fruity accents.

Fairly crisp taste balanced between earthy grains and sweet, syrupy malts. Mild grape or cherry-like accent. Finish is dry and earthy.

Medium body and carbonation. Faint tingle of yeast on the tongue. Aftertaste is syrupy, fruity, slightly metallic.

Nothing to write home about, but certainly a step up from most random Euro-cans you find on shelves here in Ontario.

Pours a light gold that is as clear as purified water. Very lightly carbonated. Nice thinnish white head. Smell is bitter and a bit like citrus sitting on top of the malt. First taste is sweet and upfront, and gets bitter at the end. A good beer, The mouthfeel is a light body beer with decent carbonation. Overall this is better than American Budweiser and would be ok to session.

Went with the can instead of the bottle as with most imports, to avoid reviewing light-stricken skunky stuff. Never had this beer before, even though it's everywhere.

Pours a bright golden-yellow colour, topped with a half-finger of fizzy white head that dissipates within 60 seconds. Carbonation level looks lower than most euro lagers. Smell is clean but pretty uninteresting; grassy hops and grainy malts.

Taste is of grainy malts, a bit sweet, some tart apple acidity with an echo of crisp noble hops in the finish. Clean finish with no lingering aftertaste. Thin mouthfeel, light-bodied with good carbonation for the style.

I kind of regret not trying this until now. A respectable Czech pilsener, not quite special enough to warrant seeking out, but worth a try nonetheless.

Poured from a 500 mL can into an Alexander Keith's pint glass.

The pour reveals a typical pilsner golden-straw colour, perhaps a tint darker than a lot of pilsners. 1 finger of pure white bubbly head dissipated to a faint ring in under a minute. Medium carbonation with quick moving bubbles, but not many of them.

Nose is very, very faint, and difficult to pick out much. However, a grainy malt scent as well as a slight hop scent is present, but aside from that there isn't much to speak of.

Perhaps because I am trying this after just drinking a black IPA, the taste is very closely resembling the nose (ie. VERY sparse flavours). There is a nice, light, smooth hoppiness on the finish and maybe a nice bit of alcohol on the front, but I'm having a hard time distinguishing much else. If nothing else, this is a very smooth, drinkable, refreshing beer, with just enough flavour to get by. It certainly isn't watery.

I can't say whether or not I'll ever buy this again, as there are other pilsners that pack a little more punch flavour-wise, but those looking for a nice, smooth refreshing summer beer that goes down easy but still tastes like beer, definitely give it a shot.

16 oz Pint Can poured into a .5l mug...

A - Light straw like color, lovely activity racing up to the top. Nice 1 inch head even after a softer pour.

S - Very floral and grassy, some acidity in the nose to dry up the brew

T - Very refreshing, the hop kick is a bit more subdued than some other Czech's allowing the soft yet surprisingly complex to be featured

M - Very smooth, the sweetness from the hops does not stick to the mouth and the beer finishes very clean.

O - Great example of a classic style, one that I never have a problem going back too

Appearance - pale golden yellow with a small white head that quickly dissapears without a trace. Very fine bubbles.

Smell - nice subdued floral hops aroma with sweet bready malt.

Mouthfeel - light bodied, moderately carbonated and crisp.

Taste - Sweet pilsner malt, a touch of bitterness, and herbal noble hops. A touch on the wwtery side, but good.

I don't know where this came from, but I've got one and I'm drinking it...

A steady cascade in this bright gold brew brings up a foamy white head that doesn't retain itself exceptionally well but doesn't face terribly quickly either. The lacing left behind in thin patches is in decent quantity.
The aroma gives up grassy undertones above pale malts and evident grains with a fairly decent hops presence more on the floral side with an herbal character to it and just a slight spicy bite.
Crisp, light, crackery malts make up the backbone of the flavor, and the balancing hops are certainly adequate for a Czech pils. Spiciness isn't lost and there's a bit of a citrus zest as well. While fairly dry, malts offer a light touch of sweetness lingering through along with it.
This beer is as crisp as it ought to be, light but certainly with more body and depth than it's AAL counterpart and its like. My only concern is that it the carbonation leads a bit too much toward effervescence.
I have to go with the consensus; this really is a nice pilsener.

Budweiser...really did a good job on this one...my opinion great beer... however the presentation of the can gets an average due to the simplicity of such a complex beer...but all that is shadowed by the taste and the feel it leaves in the mouth which is simply put exemplary!!!

Canned version. I find it surprising how generally well respected this beer is but in taste it's rather plain.

It does look good however. With a clear golden body, well defined head with sheets of lacing. Nice.

The smell is pilsner malt and grassy grain mostly.

Taste is simple, some pilsner malt & grain with a touch of floral hops. The problem is that it's just no interesting in the least.

Mouthfeel is good. Soft but with a refreshing amount of carbonation. Drinkability is just ok. It's goes down easy enough but I'm not interested enough to have another.

500ml can poured into a pint glass

Appearance - pours a clear golden yellow with lots of carbonation and a big foamy/fizzy white head. There is a little bit of lacing.

Smell - There is a slight skunkiness, hops, breads/grains, citrus zest.

Taste & Mouth - there is a decent amount of carbonation, and it starts a little skunky. Not a whole lot of taste going on, hops come in at the end and it is relatively dry. It is slightly watery to me.

Drink - just an average beer in my books, not something I'd seek out again.

Pours a straw-yellow with thin white head. Not too much in way of head retention or lacing. Smell is grassy hops and grainy malt. Flavour has a little bit of the grassy hop bitterness, with a sweet malt. Nothing too exciting about this, but it is pleasant to drink. A little bit prickly carbonation, but still quite drinkable on a warm day.

Pours a nice crisp pale yellow with a white head that has average retention. The aroma is one dominated by sweet corn with a touch of sweet corn beneath it. The beer's flavours are dominated by a lingering vegetal funk, a spicy bitterness and the corn. Great carbonation for the style, feels very crisp. A good drink, hampered by some odd lingering funk.

This beer is prettier on draft, I'll tell you that. Mostly there are head issues here; it's short and short-lived, a mess of fizz where there should be a cap of foam. The aroma is lovely and fruity-sweet, full of honey, Italian bitters, ripe pear, and orange blossom. Softly effervescent and nicely balanced on the palate, with restrained lemony and slightly leafy bitterness bouncing off a cushion of sweetly soured grain. Complex it ain't, but drinkable it certainly is.

Pours pale goldenrod with a white head that doesn't hang around. Grain mash sweetness and floral and coriander hops nose. Golden syrup and crusty white bread malts followed by cinnamon gum spice hops with herbal and grass hints. Tight linger. Prickly, light verging on medium, could be snappier. Gets a bit heavier as it warms.

Good Czech pilsener to start, and being in a can doesn't hurt it.

50cl can: Picked this up in a food store in France: This one poured a clear, vivid golden color. There was a bit of a white head on it, but it didn't linger at all. Grassy aroma with some faint malts in the background. Some malts to the taste, with a grassiness to the taste. Slightly lighter body. Just a touch bitter. A very tasty and easy to drink beer.

0.5L can poured in an ordinary glass. Another one from the series "Reviewing beer in the train back home" (Season 1).
Time to get a good-refreshing-traditional Czech Pilsener: Budweiser Budvar.

A: Nice clear gold yellow (to orange) color. 1 to 2 fingers creamy white head.
S: Good. Fresh hops and fresh malt.
T: Quite good taste. Hops and malt (again) are notable. Refreshing.
M: Reasonable carbonation. Light body. very nice and balanced bitterness.
D: Very good . Smooth. Still prefer the Urquell but, of course, Budweiser Budvar is a classic like AC/DC or Led Zeppelin... ;)

Tallboy can poured into sampler glasses.

Golden wheat color with non-existent head. Nice and bubbly and there is a ring of white around the top of the beer.

Smells of sweet malt and the nose lights up with carbonation. Aroma is not bold, no hop presence or anything. One word: Clean.

Taste is a bit on the sweet side, pilsner malt, a bit of some hop bitterness in the finish but otherwise a crisp clean end. Good body and a nice smooth feel. Hey nothing notable here, which I think is good. This is a nice drinkable Czech Pils.

A far cry above the American namesake.

16 ounce "bomber" can slit with a fellow BA.
Pours a very light goden color with not much head displayed. Small bubbles slowly rising to the top.
Smells of sweet, grainy malts with a slight floral hop aroma.
Taste is fairly good, low in mouthfeel but crisp in the finish.
Yeasty undertones with a slight Belgian like flavor. Mild bubblegum flavor comes to mind.
Sweet with a nice balance of hops.
Not world class, but a god beer if you are drinking many on a hot summer day.

A - Light golden body and a "now you see it now you don't" head on pouring.

S - Slightly malty with some very light fruitiness.

T - Pretty much dominated by the malts, little in the way of hopiness.

M - Smooth and not too fizzy.

D - Rather easy to drink, good for a barbecue.

As pilsners/lagers go this is definitely superior, however this style is just not my beer of choice these days. Would definitely take this over the standard UK mass produced lagers any day.

This is a serious Lager! A true representation of the Pils/Lager style. A must try!
This Pils/Lager from Ceske Budejovice (Budweis), Czech Republic has been embroiled in a one hundred plus year legal battle over the name "Budweiser". You have to try it!...at least to help defray legal expenses. No beech wood (a few wood chips tossed into the brew vat) aging?that's a plus! Sold as "Czechvar" Beer in the US and some scattered countries giving in to A-B corporate pressure, and Budvar elsewhere. In Great Britain, both "Budweisers" are allowed by law to use the same name. Let's face it - even the uninformed, or people living on Mars will be able to look at the label and tell whether they are getting A-B Bud or Budvar.
Pours a dull Blonde/Gold color with a nice frothy white head and plenty of sticky lace. The distinctive Saaz Euro-hop aroma awakens the senses upon pouring. The Light/Medium sweet biscuity malt compliments the crisp spicy and somewhat metallic hop bitterness. Clean and dry finish(maybe a bit too dry). This is a nice, easy-drinking brew. Well done!

Came in Half Liter can, direct from the Czech Repubic(via my friend). Poured yellow, with a fluffy white foam head. Smell was pretty much clean, but not unpleasent. The taste was smooth and malty, with grain protruding. Felt good in mouth, and was exceptionally refreshing. Top notch beer.

This is a vastly different beer than is available here in the US. I've never checked on the brewing location or the ages, but this is simply different.

Not merely "golden," this is a rich, earthy maize color with a nice, frothy head that sticks to the glass. It's immediately obvious that this is a heartier version than American consumers are used to. As expected, there's little to speak of for aroma -- plant-like Euro-hop aroma, malty sweetness. Fairly big bodied brew for the style. Lemongrass herbal tea. Bready and thick feeling. A sweet but crisp malt beverage -- plain and simple. Clean, crisp, refreshing. Nice hop bite at the end. An old school pilsner's pilsner.

I heard about this beer a long time ago, and I've become a sworn fan since i first tried it.

500ml, brown bottle

Pouring this lager into a glass displays a nice head, which although thin, adds to the character of the beer. The head is whispy and disappears after a couple of minutes.

The beer pours a nice golden amber colour, with a fair bit of carbonation.

The smell is sweet and bitter, with a hoppy aroma followed by a lavender smell.
The taste is dry and sweet, followed by a healthy bitter aftertaste.

Nice, classic pilsner
