When the weather gets hot I look for the pilsners from the Czech Republic to keep me cool. First on my list each year is Czechvar (a.k.a. Budvar in Europe). The beer is a clear, light yellow color with a thin foamy white head that quikly dissolves to a ring around the surface. An aroma filled with flowery esters and light malt greet you before each sip. The aroma may sometimes appear slightly skunky at first. This thin bodied beer is very drinkable. Every sip begins with a light malt flavor before the stronger bitter hop tastes move in. It leaves the palate dry with a mildly bitter hoppy flavor left behind.

This may be a good "conversion" beer for the macro beer drinkers out there. It has a better, more crisp flavor than American Bud and does not leave any chemical tastes behind.

Appearance: Pale, golden, clear

Aroma: Hops, slight vanilla

Taste: Hoppy, slightly bitter, but refreshing and smooth, slight apple finish

Remarks: Although the flavor was pretty good overall, it's still a pale lager, which is not my favorite style

Did not score A, T, S, M at that time; disregard those scores

Bright golden color with a two finger head with medium retention and leaving laces.
Light aroma of grassy hops, fresh like recently cut, hints of malt and caramels. Later decayed,
Nice sweet malty taste, very grassy with hints of lemon and asparagus. Dry, even a bit astringent aftertaste with a nice bitterness.
Light body with a crisp carbonation.
This was much fresher than the last one I had tasted, this makes a whole lots of difference for Pilsners. This one was not metallic. I found this very well balanced and pleasant; it is a pity that the “fake” Budweiser is not as good as this one.

This is a true Pilsner beer second only to Pilsner Urquell tasted at the brewery. I really enjoy drinking this beer when I can. Too Bad it is not reeally available in America because of the trademark problem. American Budweiser has ruined the reputation of this brewery and its wonderful beer. I am looking forward to the time I can visit Budvar and taste this beer at the brewery. This beer is truely one of the best beers in its class in the world. When in Germany or the Czech Republic be sure to try one of these and you too will be a fan.
