Budvar kroužkovany ležák. (krausened lager) 5% In Budvar tulip glass at brewery restaurant in České Budêjovice. Same as Budvar Premium, but then wood barrel fermented.
A - Golden with durable white head. Crystal clear.
Aroma: medium-light aroma of light malt with hops; very clean
T- Considered by the brewery to be "stronger up to very strong", this beer actually has moderate strength flavor, although rather bitter. It is very clean and fresh, with a distinctive woody flavor profile, perhaps from barrel aging.
Nice semi-dry and surprisingly (given earlier taste) hoppy (Zatek) finish.
M - light-medium body; crisp;
O - a very pleasing light (colored) Czech lager. A special edition worth seeking out.

This unfiltered version of Budvar looks just as nice as the original, not much different except perhaps for a slightly creamier, more solid head. Though it is not filtered it is only slightly hazed, unnoticeably so if one weren't looking. Hugely biscuity nose, like fresh cornbread, rising bread, hominy, caramel corn, and rye bread. Hops only come through as a floral whisper, but the smell doesn't seem imbalanced - nor does the taste. Tangy and taut, snappy yet full and deep. Lime-like bitterness that builds up over time and a clean finish clench a soft, hefty mouthfeel and sweet, full malts. Though this lacked the impact I'd hoped for, it's definitely one to try if you can find it.
