Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.
Takin' a trip to the dark side of Czech lagers. This stuff pours a deep midnight garnet topped by over a finger of khaki foam. The nose comprises mild malted milk balls, light dark greens, and a hint of toast. The taste brings in more of the same, with a bit of a tea-like character pervading the proceedings. The body is a hefty light, with a very light moderate carbonation and a fluid feel. Overall, a pretty tasty dark lager, one that nudges you in the gut with its dark elbows, making sure not to say anything too forward, too offensive, or even too loud. Not bad at all.

Second variety of Czechvar available and it's a dark one. Pours a dark brown with a frothy brown head into my glass.
Sweet malt with an underlying roastiness. Make no mistake, it's very much a lager at heart, even in the nose.
Tastes a little bland and syrupy in parts. Otherwise, fairly inoffensive.
Lingering caramel from the malt. Doesn't finish too far from water either.
Stick with regular Czechvar.

A: Dark, coffee color, nice head, but dissapeared in a min.
S: Toasted malts and bitter of coffee.
T: Toasted maltiness mixed with coffe and nuts. Caramel is somewhere in the middle too. Ends with hopsy sourness and bitter.
M: Medium carbonation. Light, watery and easy to drink.
O: Cool beer. Nothing super special but with very nice mix of flavors. Better than average dark lager.

500 mL green bottle. Tried one poured into a pilsener glass, and have tried straight from the bottle!
A: great cola colour with fizzy head, even on a slow pour
S: very appetizing scent: sweet caramel, hops, classic beer scent (sounds silly but true), but with a rich tint to it
T: some sweetness upfront but with a lingering bitterness afterwards, a slight bit of coffee, some mild fruitiness (citrus?) and a bit of caramel too
M: refreshing, moderate to heavy carbonation, but that's to be expected from a lager
O: very enjoyable!

330ml bottle poured into pint glass. green bottle scaring me a bit.
a: pours nearly black, with a ruby/mahogany tint. two finger foamy head.
s: lots of grain, bit of a toasted and bitter coffee note as well. a definite nuttiness to it as well.
t: very rich and nutty, with a strong cocoa flavor as well. there is some choclately smoothness as well. a nice amount of carbonation to it as well. not too thin either.
o: really enjoyable. its nice to drink a beer this complex that is under 5% abv.

Had it at Prague in a nice 0.5L mug, poured quite black with copper beams. The smell is of molasses and some hints of coffee, as well as caramel. The taste stands up for the smell, hitting the taste buds with what reminded me of a Spanish candy 'regaliz negro' (liquorice). The mouthfeel is not as easy as the clear Budweiser, but still is quite good.
Overall a beer that needs to be tried, very recommendable.
