Visited this store on way through Albany after cabin trip. The store is a left turn off the main road and has a fairly small parking lot. Beer is the door in the corner, liquor/wine door to the right.
THe beer selection is to the left with 4 rows of shelving. There are also 4 taps runnning to fill growlers, they only fill their own. NOthing too exciting here Smittwicks, and some large regionals (I forget which) but all were readily available in bottles.
The shelves are labeled geographically with large signs hanging from ceiling. Countries and various US states mark the breakdown. There is a great selection of Belgians and also some fun French and other random countries. The US stuff is a great mix of NY and regionals and a solid representation of other bigger craft breweries. Good Middle Ages, Victory, Weyerbacher, SIx Point selection.
Service was very friendly and helpful, not sure about beer knowledge but they were good guys. Offfered free beer glasses to take, but the selection was ALL dusty Lite and AB pints, I have enough glasses that I dont need another like that.
WOrth a stop if in the area for sure.

Vibe: This store is like a small warehouse and isn't too far away from the Wolf Road/Albany Airport area. It's organized pretty well, with the closest aisle dedicated to imported beers, the middle aisle having domestic micros, and the far aisle having some singles, cases from other larger craft breweries (such as Saranac and Samuel Adams) and coolers. The store is well lit so its easy to see inside.
Quality: All of the beers were stored outside of sunlight. The place seemed to get a steady stream of customers coming in when I was there so I assume that the turnover was pretty good.
Service: The staff seemed quite friendly and made it a point to go around the store and ask customers if they had any questions.
Selection: The selection of beers was quite diverse and I was happy to come across beers from a couple of breweries that I haven't tried before. All of the shelves had labels below the beer with prices. They also had a special area set up for seasonal beers, which mostly consisted of pumpkin beers and Oktoberfests at the time of my visit.
Value: Prices for most of the seemed rather reasonable. A few of the beers carried hefty prices, but these were for limited releases.

It looks like a warehouse and feels disorganized, but the beers are lined up on shelves by state and brewery, so it's not too hard to find what you're looking for. Selection is quite impressive, but not complete. I haven't been to the sister store in Westmere to see if they fill in the gaps in Oliver's selection yet. The best part is the growler filling station, which gets some rare selections that you can't find in a bottle at quite reasonable prices (most range around the 10-12$ range for a growler fill). The staff pouring the growlers is careful to top them off (always appreciated).

I'm a bit spoiled, coming from Baltimore and being within walking distance of The Wine Source, but I have to say that Oliver's selection is outstanding. I can get beers here I have never seen before from all over the country, and the recommendations from the guys here have been fantastic. The growler station has some really interesting choices, from a dry-hopped cider to the unbottled Victory Mad King's Weiss.
It's not fancy, but when it comes to be this place is second-to-none. I highly recommend checking it out.

Who cares if the atmosphere is warehouse-ish, nobody comes to ask me if I need any help, or there are random cases of beer in really random places all over the store? The selection at Oliver's is completely unparalleled. The import section alone was phenomenal, and the domestics were excellent as well. Many companies that had proven elusive to me were found, including NEBCO, Crooked Stave, and Perennial. Decent growler selections, and completely reasonable prices throughout.

By far the best shop in the Albany area. The biggest selection and cheapest prices lend hand to this. They tend to get all the big beers that are coming through the area and that have all the hype. Especially much more recently it seems. Adding more shelving inside for the increased selection they are providing. I tend to shop their sister shop 9 times out of 10 purely based on convenience because they are closer to home. With that being said though, Oliver's tends to get the big beers in before Westmere does and have a slightly cheaper price on those beers. Overall everyone in the shop knows what's what and are willing to help when it is needed.

Best overall beer store for quite some distance in any direction. Growler fill up taps frequently changing with a varied and good selection of beer which rarely include typical or pedestrian quasi craft beers. Rarely disappointed with the selection, it is hard to leave without spending more than I planned.

I head over to Oliver's any time I'm in that area in Albany. It's definitely the best place in Albany, NY to get good craft beer and any beer really. Good quantities of an excellent selection and variety of beers. Climate control could be a bit better in the store as it does get quite hot in the summer. The service in the store is great. They know what they're doing and what they're talking about and are open to any suggestions you may make. The prices are reasonable and do have regular sales and a consistent flow of different beers on tap to fill growlers.
