This one came from the Mountain Sun but . . .
A: Great two finger head when pouring growler to glass gently. Nice, dark amber, almost orange, coloring. Great retention with lots of lacing.
S: Spicy hop profile. Very floral with hints of pine. Nice, strong smell. Complex floral aroma is definitely overwhelming (in a good way).
T: Strangely there is no overwhelming flavor at first sip; just a clean, crisp feel with a bit of brown-sugar sweetness. Quickly, however, the floral profile comes out and the hoppy-bitterness lingers. Very strong floral and slightly piney taste, followed by a bit of caramel malt. The sweetness, however, is brief both at the start and at the finish, as the bitterness is the overpowering aftertaste. Great. A very floral bitterness, matched only by Odell's IPA, though a bit more piney.
M: Perfectly carbonated and slightly syrupy (which is great for this style). Perhaps a little dry for some, but being a fan of oak-aged beers this is no problem for me. I love it.
D: Well . . . I can't help but be a little biased here. I love this beer and order one almost every time I find myself at the Sun. A word of warning, however: this beer will get you drunk. Four pints and you're hammered, and yet they go down dangerously smooth.
I can't say enough good things about the Mountain Sun: grate people (no, that's not a typo), excellent food, and by far the best beer in Boulder. In terms of hop profile this is the best beer they have, and while they have darkened it over the years (I preferred it's original version) it remains one of the best IPAs I've ever had.

Poured from a growler into a Russian River chalice. Beer was dark orange in color with a small, off-white, creamy head. Soft carbonation and light lacing around the glass.
Aroma was huge hops. Heavy pine, light citrus.
Taste was moderately bitter and hoppy. Fairly well balanced by the malt.
Surprisingly smooth and easy drinking. Great session beer if you enjoy IPA's.
