Delicious. Dark fruit, oak, wood, chocolate, vanilla. Light roasted grain character - definitely less than in a stout, and hints of coffee. Medium bitterness from the dark malt. Hard to detect any hop character, as this beer has been sitting for over three years. Some earthy, learher, and floral hints as well. Dark malt medium-sweet dryness in the finish. Medium-full body moderately-low carbonation. Very slight astringency from the malt/barrel aging, and it hides it's 10.5% very well, although there is some alcohol warmth.
This is the 2014 version. On tap at the Break Room.

One year old properly cellared bottle. Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark brown, appearing opaque black in the glass, with a thick medium brown cap. Aroma of dark toasted malt, vanilla and bourbon with a hint of dark dried fruit. Flavor is dark toasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, dark dried fruit, oak and lots of bourbon. Medium bodied with a pleasant light creaminess and good carbonation. A nicely made imperial porter, fairly bourbon forward. The first taste had rich chocolate malt barrel flavors, but subsequent tastes were thinner, perhaps because of the dominating bourbon. Smooth becoming a bit boozy in the finish. A very nice malt base that is teetering on the edge of being overwhelmed by the barrel character; this pulls it off and is a very well done BA porter. Great bourbon. I've been pleasantly surprised by both Ironfire brews I've had and look forward to trying them again.

Appearance - The beer was blackish brown with a mocha colored head.
Smell - There is a big bourbon nose present. I can't detect much else.
Taste - Wow, this is boozy as hell. There are smooth malts and bourbon, though it is hard to detect the base beer. The woody bourbon continues into the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel - The beer was very smooth, but a little thin.
Overall - This beer was a nice surprise.

Poured into a 12 ounce snifter at around room temperature. Poured a nice black with a quick and loud popping head (not a good sign in my book). Nose is of vanilla sweetness and dark dried fruits. Taste is of dark dried fruits, predominantly figs, but the most significant flavor is sort of off, mouth-feel is thin as well. A good beer worth trying, but it's kind of light for my liking.

22 ounce bottle poured into a snifter
A: Pours black with a tan colored head, no light coming through, lots of carbonation, head is creamy with lots of tiny bubbles, lots of lacing, looks pretty good.
A: Lots of bourbon and alcohol, chocolate, hint of coffee, bourbon is strong.
T: Like the nose, bourbon comes through very strong, some oak, chocolate, vanilla, coffee like bitterness, finishes with some heat, powder like chocolate aftertaste.
M: Lots of carbonation, medium bodied with a dry finish.
O: Nothing impressive, middle of the road bourbon barrel aged porter, I was looking for more complexity, it's pretty straightforward, bourbon, chocolate, oak.

Fantastic poter barrel aged to perfection. This was pretty heavy but very drinkable with a nice chocolate flavor. Highly recommend for any fan of dark beer.

One of the best BA porters I have ever tried. Smells of chocolate and Jack Daniels. Great chocolate taste with a nice smooth whiskey taste.
