The brand new, but rustic low key vibe is second to none, and only the Gingerman can match it IMO. A long, half rectangle metal bar, lots of tables inside. A huge outdoor area that wraps around the place. Complete with pub games (bags, foosball, etc) and a stage for bands. Inside opens up with a garage door, a la Liberty Station (obviously makes sense, the same people). A large chalk board with all the draft selections listed. High ceilings and amazing light fixtures. Loads of character in this old warehouse turned bar/restaurant. When I first saw pictures, I was afraid the place would be Incredibly loud with the high ceilings. Though the noise level was pretty good. I attribute that to everything being spread out. A place I can sit and hang out at all day if I could.
The service is good, if a bit rushed. I can't blame them because there are a ton of people here. It is mostly bar service. Order at the bar and they give you a number for food and drinks. Think similar to Petrol, but they will come around every once in a while to take orders at tables. It is much easier to get to the bar and order here though.
The food is excellent. A handful of small plates, and some bigger burgers to satisfy. I had t he BBQ oysters that are out of this world good, and the stuffed blue cheese burger. One of the best burgers I have had in Houston, and it came out in about 20 minutes. Petrol should take some lessons on this front.
On to the beer. The selection is not as good as say Petrol or Hay Merchant. Though it is still very good. 30 taps that rotate. A lot of good locals with Saint Arnold and Karback well represented. Live Oak, 512, and Real Ale as well as some national micro brands. Two casks, in good condition. I enjoyed a Scots Gone Wild, and cask Ellissa. Two wines on tap and a full bar for those that don't want beer.
This is a great place, and an instant hit with me. Some of the best pub grub around, and I need to try the rest the menu ASAP. This will be a regular stop of mine.
Edit:
Increasing the quality to 4.5. The casks are always in great condition, and they turn them over regularly. Always rotating new stuff in, that is fresh as can be. Well done.
