Found a 24 oz can for 89 cents at the local discount store.
Bright pale yellow with about 2 cents worth of foam after a gentle pour.
Not much going on in the smell department. It smells like a typical American Adjunct Lager.
The taste is enjoyable. At less than 50 cents per 12 ozs, this is a much better buy than some other AALs and every bit as enjoyable.
Any true beer lovers who wish to take a break from those hop/malt bombs shouldn't have any problems with this one.

Poured on-tap and served in a nonic, the beer is a pale goldenrod coloring with a ton of carbonation bubbling and a tall, frothy, light, white head that settles into a filmy coating. Clingy all over the glass. Aromas of toasted grains and not much else...a bit musty and stale. Flavors of roast, with a buttery backbone and corn overtones. Bleh. Roasty and stale aftertaste with a quick, uneventful finish. Not good.

Ya know, for the money it really is a pretty good beer. Being from the South we do not get to experience many of the North's local beers. Local meaning (those beers that never get past the Mason Dixon Line). At first, I had my reservations about this beer. The packaging is bland, the beer was in a 12 pack for 6 bucks. I inquired about the beer out of curiosity and the lady behind the counter replied in this typical New York accent-"If you don't like the beer honey, you can always give it to your neighbors..." Being a retired military man, I reflected on my past and never remembered ever giving away bad beer. I thought to myself was there such a thing as a bad beer? No beer could ever be so bad that I would pass it along in distain. Out of shear intrigue I had to try some. I found that it reminded me of the draft beer you would get at the NCO Club in the pitcher on a Saturday night. The taste was like a memory which shot me back to one of my first bar brawls in the 80's. Although, Long Island Ice Tea was involved, I do remember the taste of this particular brew.
- Thanks for the memory Genesse. No Marines where harmed in the making of this memory, just a couple dozen of the finest Sailors you would ever meet... Bless their immortal souls.

I used to buy this beer, one at a time, then on a whim I bought four (one pint) cans, then it struck me how mediocre this brew really is.

The pour is interesting, as their is a nice frothy head to the yellow-palish color of the brew, lots of carbonation. The smell is somewhat distorted, just like when you cook corn on the cob, that kind of aroma, and the taste is somewhat awkward with bitterness, which cannot be pinned down as to the source. At least that is according to me.

You will find that trying to session this beer will be difficult. The pints are cheap, so its worth a try at a minimum. Thanks.

A-pours a nice dark straw color with frothy 1 finger head. Lots of carbonation bubbles.

S- aroma of cooked corn and slight malty sweetness. I can't detect a hop nose but something citrusy is present representing hops?

T- very clean, corny, malty, slightly sweet with an extremely tight finish...nothing lingers. A teeny hop bitterness can be detected.

M- a slightly carbonated, bubbly feeling tingles the mouth.The carbonation level is pleasantly low. The finish is quite clean with a teeny, tiny hop bite?

O- Genny is an easy to drink, tasty session beer. IMO it has a nicer flavor profile than BMC. It is a lot more full bodied than BMC and is a great alternative to the large nat'l brewery offerings. I forgot to mention that it is really cheap....please don't let that turn you off from buying it! You won 't be disappointed. Just remember what style of beer it is!

From my rating book back in 1984. poured to a golden color, was clear in appearance and did not develop much of a head. Aroma was fruity and somewhat stale. Taste was sweet and on the bland side. Aftertaste was mild. Reminded me of a weaker, lighter version of Genesee Cream Ale.

One and half fingers of head, clear yellow tinged colored body.
Smell of candy corn.
Not too bad of a taste. The mildest bitterness, corn and mild honey.
Smooth texture, low carbonation for the style and light body.
For the style it's not a bad beer. I'd entertain drinking this if I had something productive to do on a summer afternoon. Descent flavor and low ABV.

Its a basic beer, I mean sure, its nothing your going to write home to mama about,...but with these hard economic times, you could collect cans all day, as me and my friends have done...then with the deposit money and the recycling that you have accomplished... you could have a few 24 oz brew-skis at the end of the day Vs having nothing.

Taste: Like rotten corn, drink fast, get it over it over with

Smell: Like corn fields after and heavy hot rain.

Head: Forget it, just drink

Overall this beer is cheep and does the trick if you are out of cash, or have been hunting for change all day in the couch.

Did you find 4 bucks in change? Great! You're going have enough money to get loaded from ( 3 ) 24 oz cans. ;-)

Oh - Get your favorite aspirin or headache medicine ready, The Hangover from this beer is nasty...

$6 for the six pack of stubby bottles.

A light gold colour, 2 finger head of shrinking foam, it leaves some lacing behind.

The smell has a lot of corn in it, some other graininess, a non descript bitterness. It smells average for the style.

It tastes of corn, grain, about even with sweet and bitter..both lightly done. Easy drinking, for sure while it's cold, not so much as it warms up. A decent brew to have on a hot day but so are MANY others and there's the odd one that excels. I like their Cream Ale more.

OK, this is my first review. And I'm not going to lie to you. This is a beer that will, for the most part, be overlooked.

This is an American lager through and through. About as middle of the road as you would come to expect. The nose and flavor are not unlike that which exists in other American beers, but it still remains a standout.

When you first come across it in your local liquor store/gas station it will be easy to move on. However, if you are looking for a flavorful, yet affordable, beverage, I urge you to at least try this.

I won't say this is a beer to enjoy with a fine meal. This is your standard, yet refreshing, beverage that you would find readily at parties or Bar-B-Ques.

The flavor is rich, tho mostly undecipherable . There is little to note here, and yet it still stands out. This is a cheap beer that i cannot overlook. It is full bodied. You know you're drinking a beer. Something you can pound back with friends, or enjoy a few of after a long day.

I would choose this any day over your standard bud/bud lite, coors lite swill. If your in the mood for beer but are on a budget, it would not be a bad choice to grab a few of these.

Genny has always been one of my best liked junk beers. Today I could not resist a great cheap beer deal, even though I have loads of good beer already on hand. The gennys ended up being under seventeen cents a can. I bought ninety.

Its too sweet and has too little hops. Its your typical not very good American lager. If you drink it with a good beer aftertaste already in your mouth this will ruin it. Tastes better if a little of any other beer is left in the glass before pouring in the genny. Me and jenny were like peas and carrots.

Got this as a gag extra, i'm gagging but kind of enjoyed the experience. It was a bit funky with some more sweetness than a BMC. I don't really know how to describe this other than a funky BMC. The mouthfeel is quite carbonated and left quite a weird sour aftertaste. I'm just kind of confused.

An anemic yellow colored brew with a decent white head that quickly shrivels to a scant breath of head and lacing seems generally absent. The aroma indicates classic cereal grains with an accent on wheat and an inference of some light lemon. Not all that bad if you’re thinking in terms of light and refreshing. The flavor brings out somewhat watery citrus wheat. More cereal grain and It’s not offensive in my estimation, but it’s clearly a drinker for the driveway and burgers, a light refresher with a peppery idea that is aided by a lively, fine carbonation. But it is light bodied and other than the carbonation it’s pretty much watery stuff. It’s a standard cereal brew and it’s fine to pound these with the boys but clearly it leaves a lot to be desired if you want to truly enjoy a tasty beer. Then again, I think it would be un-American to be without some of these traditional lagers that can go down like....well....water.

A-pours crystal clear pale yellow color with a foamy white head that quickly fades
S-corn and a touch of grass. Pretty faint overall
T-pretty flavorless, corn comes through in the finish, hops provide no flavor, just enough bitterness so you know you're drinking beer.
M-very light bodied
O-What you would expect from a adjunct, but honestly genny is my go to cheap beer. Much rather have any genny beer before miller or coors.

Poured extremely vigorously into a snifter, achieving a finger of white head, zero beading. Smells like a grain belt- corn, lots of corn, a bit of sugar, nothing exciting at all. Tastes like some beer that someone forgot about back in July. I wouldn't offer this beer to my worst enemy... seriously. This sucks. All beer biases aside this one tastes like I shouldn't have tasted it.

A: Looks like clear, slightly yellow water. One of the lightest colored beers i've ever seen. Fizzy white head quickly dies down.

S: Faint adjuncts, maybe a touch of grass.

T: Even for an AAL, this is pretty flavorless. Not exactly a bad thing given the style though. Corn comes through and adds sweetness, a touch of grassyness.

M: Super thin and watery.

Overall: Like most adjunct lagers that i've had, it's isn't particularly bad tasting or offensive, it's just not what beer should be and definitely not something i would pick up.

Sometimes you see something and you know you're going to purchase it, even though it's likely to be fairly crappy. For me, that happened tonight with the Genesee Heritage twelve pack. I drank tons of this swill back in my college years in upstate New York so its something of a homecoming.

Genesee pours straw yellow with a decent creamy head into my mason jar. Nose starts a bit abrasive but a few minutes later is just grainy and leaking adjuncts but not awful. The taste is sweet malty corn with a side of sawdust. The feel is a bit thin and grainy, which I could do without.

I know this isn't any good, but I kind of dig it anyway. Maybe all those kegs of this hillbilly juice in my youth inoculated me against its fairly noxious taste. I'm not proud of it, but I can drink this all day long.

"One Great Brewery. One Great Taste." We'll see about that.

A - Pours a clear, light piss gold with two fingers of really foamy white head. Head is fairly soapy but persists.

S - Rotten rice and musty mothball for the most part. Worse than your typical macro.

T - Tastes like a poorly made pilsener. The booze is VERY present throughout the whole taste. Maybe some light hops are present but the gross, ricey booze taste is too much to bear.

M - Very watery with minimal carbonation.

O - Not very good, but what do you expect? Rochester represent. If you want great beer from Rochester try Three Heads.

A: Pours crystal clear pale yellow with light amounts of visible carbonation. The head is two fingers tall and bright white, it reduces over time but leaves at least a half finger of head throughout the beer. There is moderate amounts of lacing observed.

S: Primarily aromas of adjunct malts - grain and corn - with very slight hints of sweetness.

T: Like the smell, the flavors are dominated by adjunct malts with lots of grain and corn flavors. Slightly out of balance, with not quite enough hops/bitterness to match the sweetness in the malts.

M: Light to medium bodied with moderate to high amounts of carbonation. Slightly thin/watery.

O: Easy to drink but best when served extremely cold. Would be a great beer for sitting out fishing on a hot summer afternoon.

16oz. can poured into a pint glass.

A: Pours a watered down thin yellow piss color with about one full finger of pure white head. The foam settles quickly, but leaves a nice ring along the edges of the glass.

S: The nose is bready, sweet, and a little fruity. It smells exactly like how you would expect an American Adjunct Lager to smell.

T: It starts out a bit dry and biting. You get that familiar shitty beer bitterness without much flavor profile. There is however a sweetness that comes on in the finish.

M: Light bodied beer. It's thin and easily drinkable.

O: It's not the worst beer ever. In fact, I could drink a few of these cans at a BBQ on a hot summer day to quench my thirst. American Adjunct Lagers have their place.

There's really not much I can say positive about this beer, so I'll skip reviewing all the individual aspects of this and just say how I really feel about it: this beer is nasty in every possible definition of the term. And I say that in a nice way, as that's the nicest possible way I can put it.

To put it bluntly: it looks, smells, and tastes like stale piss. You know what piss smells like if it's sat there for a few days? It smells like that, and tastes just like it smells. Drinkability? Zero. It tastes and smells like pungent, metallic, compost rot, akin to what you might expect from prison beer that was fermented from stale bread and old ketchup in an inmate's unflushed toilet. This is a horrible "beer" (if you can call it beer, i'd call it compost juice), the bottom of the bottom, I'd take Natural Ice or Steel Reserve 211 before this beer, that's how bad it is.

It will do things to your bowels that you've probably never experienced during your worst stomach flu or food poisoning experience. It might as well be marketed as a laxative. Instead of urinating frequently after drinking this, it'll squirt out the other end, if you don't vomit it out first, but it's definitely coming back out of one of the 2 holes on your body that beer isn't supposed to come out of.

I wouldn't touch this beer with a 10 foot pole if it was the last beer on earth. I don't even know how it even manages to sell. The epitome and very definition of the words "nasty" and "disgusting" could be summed up in two words: Genesee Beer.

If you want to experience some of the finer brews this brewery has to offer, go for Dundee. Dundee beers are actually pretty good, comparable to craft beers, especially surprising given that this is their flagship.

Poured from a 16 oz. pounder can into a Three Heads Brewing pint glass (both beer and glass from last week's Homegrown Fest):

A-Yellowish, gold with little or no head that is quickly gone and leaves a tiny bit of lace

S-Corn, sweet, a touch of malt, no hops, a bit like the carpet used to smell in my fraternity house on Sunday mornings...(minus the funk)

T-pretty much like most adjuncts, not awful, but not anything special. Honestly, I didn't expect much, but it's not unpleasant, just Genny

M-kind of slippery and then nothing

O-In western NY, Genny is not as beloved as some other regional breweries are around the country, but for $3.99 for a 6 of pounders, its not awful, better than most things from BMC....

12oz stubby bottle received in the heritage mix pack. It poured a clear golden color with a spotty white lacing scattered across the top of the beer. The head all but disappeared within a minute or so.

The aroma has a sweet, grainy, pale malt flavor mixing with a little crisp fruits. The taste shows a little more of the crisp fruitiness to it with some apple like flavors coming out. The pale, grainy malts are there as well.

The mouthfeel is light with carbonation being below average for the style. Overall it's not bad for the style, but it's not very good either. There just wasn't much to it. It doesn't compare unfavorably to the BMC's of the world though. I much prefer their Cream Ale myself though.

Poured from a 12 oz. capped bottle (no date) into a pint glass.

A vigorous pour yields a 1 1/2-finger bright white head that quickly fades in a minute or so to a thin dusting and thin foam ring. The body is a pale golden straw with very few rising carbonation bubbles. Some nice lacing can be seen clinging to the glass throughout consumption but is never strong enough to cling indefinitely.

The nose, while pretty standard for the style seems a bit weak. The aromas are basically just wet hay, sweet corn, white bread, and just a touch of toffee. Not the most complex but also not terrible.

Sugary sweet at the start, flavors of corn and light, bready malt are noticeable. As the beer is swallowed, the flavors stay almost exactly the same and don't even seem to gain in strength. The sweet corn stays on as an aftertaste with just a touch of bitterness.

Light bodied with moderate carbonation, this beer is definitely one you could toss back and finish in a matter of minutes. The body is about average for an AAL, which increases the drinkability while decreasing the flavor profile. The carbonation is actually rather weak for an AAL and is barely fizzy.

Appearance is crystal clear light yellow. Plenty of carbonation leads to a fairly thick white head that lingers . Pretty good lacing on the sides of the glass.

Smells somewhat sweet with bready malt and corn.

Flavor is corny up front along with cereal grain and a hint of breadiness. A sweetness pervades throughout with a light bitterness coming in at the finish along with a tiny bit of hop flavor. Finishes clean and dry.

Overall I am quite surprised by this beer. It is pretty tasty with no off flavors and has some hoppyness. Would be excellent on a hot day. One of the better AAL's.
