From my rating book back in 1984. poured to a golden color, was clear in appearance and did not develop much of a head. Aroma was fruity and somewhat stale. Taste was sweet and on the bland side. Aftertaste was mild. Reminded me of a weaker, lighter version of Genesee Cream Ale.

$6 for the six pack of stubby bottles.

A light gold colour, 2 finger head of shrinking foam, it leaves some lacing behind.

The smell has a lot of corn in it, some other graininess, a non descript bitterness. It smells average for the style.

It tastes of corn, grain, about even with sweet and bitter..both lightly done. Easy drinking, for sure while it's cold, not so much as it warms up. A decent brew to have on a hot day but so are MANY others and there's the odd one that excels. I like their Cream Ale more.

Got this as a gag extra, i'm gagging but kind of enjoyed the experience. It was a bit funky with some more sweetness than a BMC. I don't really know how to describe this other than a funky BMC. The mouthfeel is quite carbonated and left quite a weird sour aftertaste. I'm just kind of confused.

An anemic yellow colored brew with a decent white head that quickly shrivels to a scant breath of head and lacing seems generally absent. The aroma indicates classic cereal grains with an accent on wheat and an inference of some light lemon. Not all that bad if you’re thinking in terms of light and refreshing. The flavor brings out somewhat watery citrus wheat. More cereal grain and It’s not offensive in my estimation, but it’s clearly a drinker for the driveway and burgers, a light refresher with a peppery idea that is aided by a lively, fine carbonation. But it is light bodied and other than the carbonation it’s pretty much watery stuff. It’s a standard cereal brew and it’s fine to pound these with the boys but clearly it leaves a lot to be desired if you want to truly enjoy a tasty beer. Then again, I think it would be un-American to be without some of these traditional lagers that can go down like....well....water.

Poured extremely vigorously into a snifter, achieving a finger of white head, zero beading. Smells like a grain belt- corn, lots of corn, a bit of sugar, nothing exciting at all. Tastes like some beer that someone forgot about back in July. I wouldn't offer this beer to my worst enemy... seriously. This sucks. All beer biases aside this one tastes like I shouldn't have tasted it.

Sometimes you see something and you know you're going to purchase it, even though it's likely to be fairly crappy. For me, that happened tonight with the Genesee Heritage twelve pack. I drank tons of this swill back in my college years in upstate New York so its something of a homecoming.

Genesee pours straw yellow with a decent creamy head into my mason jar. Nose starts a bit abrasive but a few minutes later is just grainy and leaking adjuncts but not awful. The taste is sweet malty corn with a side of sawdust. The feel is a bit thin and grainy, which I could do without.

I know this isn't any good, but I kind of dig it anyway. Maybe all those kegs of this hillbilly juice in my youth inoculated me against its fairly noxious taste. I'm not proud of it, but I can drink this all day long.

12oz stubby bottle received in the heritage mix pack. It poured a clear golden color with a spotty white lacing scattered across the top of the beer. The head all but disappeared within a minute or so.

The aroma has a sweet, grainy, pale malt flavor mixing with a little crisp fruits. The taste shows a little more of the crisp fruitiness to it with some apple like flavors coming out. The pale, grainy malts are there as well.

The mouthfeel is light with carbonation being below average for the style. Overall it's not bad for the style, but it's not very good either. There just wasn't much to it. It doesn't compare unfavorably to the BMC's of the world though. I much prefer their Cream Ale myself though.

Poured from a 12 oz. capped bottle (no date) into a pint glass.

A vigorous pour yields a 1 1/2-finger bright white head that quickly fades in a minute or so to a thin dusting and thin foam ring. The body is a pale golden straw with very few rising carbonation bubbles. Some nice lacing can be seen clinging to the glass throughout consumption but is never strong enough to cling indefinitely.

The nose, while pretty standard for the style seems a bit weak. The aromas are basically just wet hay, sweet corn, white bread, and just a touch of toffee. Not the most complex but also not terrible.

Sugary sweet at the start, flavors of corn and light, bready malt are noticeable. As the beer is swallowed, the flavors stay almost exactly the same and don't even seem to gain in strength. The sweet corn stays on as an aftertaste with just a touch of bitterness.

Light bodied with moderate carbonation, this beer is definitely one you could toss back and finish in a matter of minutes. The body is about average for an AAL, which increases the drinkability while decreasing the flavor profile. The carbonation is actually rather weak for an AAL and is barely fizzy.

12 stubby bottle poured into a pint glass.

Appearance is crystal clear light yellow. Plenty of carbonation leads to a fairly thick white head that lingers . Pretty good lacing on the sides of the glass.

Smells somewhat sweet with bready malt and corn.

Flavor is corny up front along with cereal grain and a hint of breadiness. A sweetness pervades throughout with a light bitterness coming in at the finish along with a tiny bit of hop flavor. Finishes clean and dry.

Overall I am quite surprised by this beer. It is pretty tasty with no off flavors and has some hoppyness. Would be excellent on a hot day. One of the better AAL's.

24 oz can split and poured into a pilsner glass.
2590 on the bottom of the can.

A - Golden blonde in color that's crystal clear filtered and highly carbonated. The white head has both good retention and nice lacing.

S - Very grainy corn husk aroma with dry straw and no hops. Not appealing so far.

T - Like the aroma, this beer is not appealing in the least. Grainy and corn-like, it is bland and just not good.

M - Thin, oily, and light-bodied, Genesee Beer has a dry, harsh finish.

O - Ugh. Drain pour to the max, this beer is just not good at all. Gross in flavor and nose, I would most definitely not want to experience this one again.

12oz stumpy bottle.

A- Pours a clear golden yellow color with a thin white head that quickly fades.

S- Clean corn and grain scent. Not much in the malt or hops department.

T- Cooked cream corn and cereal with some mild astringency in the finish. Nothing but corn comes to mind.

M- Light bodied with low carbonation.

O- I don't usually mind Genesee brews too much but this one wasn't for me.

I picked up the Heritage 12 Pack today of Genesse today at Portchester Beer Dist. (great Place to go to get Beer) Now the Heritage 12 Pack comes with the Cream Ale and the 12 Horse Ale as well. The Beer is good better than some of the other Adjunct American Lagers and Better than Pabst. It dosen't really have a taste to it but most American Adjunct lagers but its a little bit Sweeter in taste . Overall its worth Trying .

Poured from bottle into pint glass

Appearance - A light straw color with a white head that faded faster then the pour.

Smell - Not much odor at all. A little bit of malt, but other then that very little

Taste - It actually had more flavor then expected. While not having a lot of hop flavor, could taste some decent maltiness and some giving way to a corn sorta sweetness in the end.

Mouthfeel - A good level of carbonation for the style, but a little bit thin on the viscosity.

Overall - Average for a standard american lager. At only ~$8 for a 12 pack it is worth the price. A good beer for tailgating and massive parties where you don't know and don't care to know most of the people there.

Pours a pale golden yellow with a loose, foamy, bubbly, white head that has little retention. The nose is grainy with very faint, grassy hop aromas. The taste is smooth and less grainy than expected. It's subtle straw and decent bittering hops. The mouthfeel is heavily carbonated, crisp, and light.

This is definitely a drinkable beer. You could put away a lot of these. Ultimately, however, if you're looking for flavor and intricacies go elsewhere.

A: A clear light straw color that had a soda-like head that died down to a bunch of bubbles popping on the surface.

S: Sweet grain and honey malt with a touch of grassy hop. Average for the adjunct lager.

T: Very sweet with a grainy and starchy flavor and a little bit of bitterness in the finish that doesn't do anything to the sweetness.

M: Light body and soda-like carbonation. OK for the style.

O: For an adjunct lager, it's not the worst I've had. As long as this beer is ice cold, it can stand up against its brothers.

S: corn, I struggle to get some wheat and maybe some grass.

T: water like, again there is some corn, maybe a note of wheat.

Poured from a 12oz grenade bottle into a standard pint glass.

A: Fizzy golden yellow beer. Aggressive pour leads to a fizzy white 1 finger head that ran away as fast as possible. Zero lacing.

S: No smell to this one, really with the exception of some malt. Pretty typical nose of an AAL.

T: Not bitter, not offensive. Corn, grain and fraternity house garage are the flavors.

M: A little sticky, not terrible so. Fizzy carbonation. Very average AAL feel.

Poured, with some regret, from a grenade.

Light straw color with a 1 finger head that contains decent lacing.

Aroma is a mix of sour and skunk.

Taste is slighly sour with a light malt finish. Taste stays in the nose throughout. Has a slightly oily finish that hangs on the tongue.

Not bad, but I've had better drinking beers.

**100th B.A. Review**

And what better choice than good ol' Genny 'Red' to celebrate such a milestone? Poured from a 40oz'r to a Genesee pint glass...fucking classy.

Pours a clear piss colored light yellow, with bubbly 2 finger head. Smells of grain, cornmeal, boiling water, stale, fizz? is fizz a scent?, but also has gentle citrusy lemon on top of the sweet malt. Exactly what an AAL should smell like. "It tastes like fucking water" screams a man in the crowd. Im not sure water is a taste, but it sure is watered down. Sour grains, sweet lager malts, slightly offensive on the after taste. Light to absent in body and feel. For an AAL i guess this is ok...but will undoubtably be the last time it touches my lips... what was i thinking??

Poured form a 12 oz. twist off bottle into a pint glass. Genesee Beer pours a clear straw with a half inch of short lived foam. Offers light lacing initially and keeps it for a while actually, somewhate impressive for the style.

Nose is of corned malts exclusively. Bit of creaminess on the nose but no hop notes to speak of. Bright nonetheless to a degree.

Flavor is smooth yet subtle, offering a pleasant feel and an easy drink. If this beer met Bud in an alley it would kick it's Ass all over town and come up smiling..

This is to me a reasonably good, solid, and enjoyable American lager.

Gold, it has a smallish white head soon thinning to a ring and no lace. It looks very standard.

Aroma is strong, nice grain, apple, grass, hay, a good American lager.

Taste is pretty good grain and apple with light apple cider hint, and aftertaste of apple and grain. There is a hint of grass and it is fairly spritzy, feel is pretty good and not watery. Although basic, it is good and better than many.

12 oz. bottle,

A: Pours yellow, with a very light white head, poor retention, though some bubbles do stay around the rim.

S: Corn, carbonic acid.

T: Has a main corn flavour with some light malt. Some sulfur flavour with a noticable but mild grassy hop. Does have a bit of a salty, mineral vibe. Not too bad.

M: Fizzy, but fairly well-bodied for the style. Crisp.

D: Not a terrible macro, definitely better than Bud. $5.99 a sixer isn't terrible, but there are cheaper and tastier options if you're on a budget.
