Pours a beautiful amber - crisp, clean, with a very decent head that persists in an attractive lace throughout. I was surprised by this one. I bought the 'craft pack' from JW Dundee and tried the amber first, not expecting too much (really I was looking forward to trying the Pale and IPA), as I am not that impressed with the Honey Brown. But this is a good amber, especially for the price. Solid malt presence, with a tasteful sweetness, followed by a surprisingly pronounced hops bitterness - not bad at all. Perhaps a tad watery, but really there's not much here for me to criticize. A solid amber lager. Definitely worth trying for the price.

This poured out with a slightly dark copper color and a fizzy cream colored head on top. The smell of the beer had the aroma of lager yeast and some sweet caramel on the nose. The taste of the beer reminded me of a Yuengling Lager but not quite as good. The mouthfeel of the beer was a bit light for a dark lager like this one, it should have had a little more body to it. Overall this beer wasn't all that impressive.

Enjoyed September 3 at Savannah Craft Brew Fest '11.
A: Pale brown more than anything, not amber. No head, thin lace.
S: Malty and sweet with slight toasted malts and a little nutty.
T&M: Similar to smell maybe more subtle, nice malty medium body that finishes smooth.
O: Decent beer to have some malty flavor but drink a few under the hot sun. My sampling was the last of the bottle wondering what a freshie would be like.

JW Dundee's American Amber Lager is a clear and sparkling, well, amber lager. The head is thin and white and leaves nice lacing on the glass. The appearance is really the best part of this beer, so look well. The aroma is sweet and malty, maybe caramel, with a hint of grassy hops. It's pretty light bodied and watery. It's prickly, with a gritty finish. It tastes pretty sweet, again, like caramel. There is a hint of bitterness at the finish and the aftertaste is clean. It almost seems as if it wasn't completely fermented, but I've certainly had worse.

Bought a mixed 12 pack of Dundee's ($8.99/12).
Your run of the mill amber lager here. Pours a nice red color and has some caramel malt taste, but nothing really stands out. Nothing offensive about, but also nothing spectacular about it. I would drink it again if handed to me but wouldn't seek it out.

This is not a bad beer at all. BUT it isn't great either. It pours amber with a big fizzy white head that quickly falls into the glass. No real lace to speak of. The head reduces to nothing. Smells of amber malts and typical malt fruitiness. Nothing overwhelming or too impressive. Taste has the same impact on me. Malt and a little bit of hops. Mouthfeel is a little thin but it is drinkable. This beer is good for the money. I got a mixed 12 pack for 9.69. For that price these beers are worth it. I would say this amber has a minute edge over Yuengling.

This is not an abomination by any means, but make no mistake about it - it is not a good lager by any measure. While it hits the required noted for an amber lager in terms of flavor and appearance, it is raw, young tasting and entirely lacking in subtlety.
It pours amber with a thin head and lots of carbonation. It smells grainy and slightly sour. The flavor is grainy and sour and unpleasant. The mouthfeel is mercifully thin and leaves little trace of the flavor on the finish.

2/18/2005. For some reason I didn't have high expectations for this but found it to be decent enough. Amber colored, thick off-white head and lots of lacing. Quite a bit of malts, some caramel, and light balancing hops. A woody note in the finish and aftertaste. Drinkable.

Poured from a 12-ounce bottle into a Long Trail pint glass.
A: Poured a clear, copper-amber color with a bubbly head of froth which fizzled to a thin, beige lace. It's not a category to score on, but this beer sounded like a bowl of Rice Krispies in milk.
S: Smells of generic toasted grain and malt with a sweet aroma rising from it.
T: Taste is a little thin, but balanced. There's a rush of sweet caramel malts up front, followed by a synthetic hop bitterness that does little to add flavor to the aftertaste, but serves as a balance to the sweetness of the malts used here.
M: Mouthfeel is light-medium bodied, and pretty crisp for an amber lager.
D: Dinkable enough for an amber lager, but in a generic category, this one doesn't even hop off the page. I'd go after these in a mix-pack and end it there.
It's almost a shame this one is apparently retired, because it's probably the most balanced out of Dundee's collection of misfits. New packaging and label art ought to mean new beer recipes with a dedication to taste and quality, too.

Decent offering from a generally lackluster brewery. This vienna poured a very light amber color. I'm hesitant to call it copper but it really is. Small white head and very little lacing. Aroma is sweet with a faint caramel maltiness. Surprisingly full mouthfeel and a really smooth finish which is the best aspect of this brew. Moderate malt flavor, semi-sweet and pleasant but far from interesting. Better than their trademark "Honey Brown" but only by a slim margin.

Appearance: Pours a crystal clear, golden-mahogany body with a small, fizzy, white head.
Smell: Toasty malts with a slight hint of toasted almond slivers. Very soft floral notes.
Taste: Toasty malts, a slight nuttiness, and a medium dark caramel sweetness. Faintest hint of floral and citrus. Rather subdued hop bitterness. Crisp, dry finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium, fizzy carbonation.
Drinkability: A thin, simply dark lager that's only real goal is to be crisp and refreshing. I'm fine with that.

pours a nice golden amber with an off white head that recedes to a small amount of lace. the aroma is malty, malty, malty. I'm not detecting a lot in the way of hops, but the lager smell is deffinitely there. the taste follows suite with a very caramely sort of sweetness, and a bit of that lager yeast taste. the mouthfeel is decent medium body, not a bad beer... damn good value these guys are putting out.

Picked up as part of a sampler pack.
A: Deep amber color is very clear with fairly active carbonation. Small and soapy white head has very little retention and leaves no lace.
S: Dark chocolate, toffee, brown sugar and a little grass. Best part of the beer for me.
T: Toffee sweet malt is balanced nicely with a mildly peppery bitterness. A slight metallic taste lingered in the background. Not particularly complex.
M: Medium light body feels syrupy. Carbonation level is a bit too high.
D: Decent social beer. Not very exciting, but I wouldn't turn it down.

Pours a nice pale copper color with a decent dense off-white head that dissipated into a cap. The aroma is pretty faint, some buttery/nutty malt and thats about it. The taste is of slightly toasted malt, mineral water, and a light grassy hop. The feel is light with a good amount of fizzy carbonation, finishes balanced and neutral. A decent offering but nothing to get excited over. The beer has some flavor and drinks easy.

Pours a light amber with a nice initial head. Reduces quickly, but leaves some spotty/stringy lacing.
Aroma of toasted malt, bread crust, and fruity hops.
Has a nicely balanced flavor. Earthy malts and a little grain balanced by a light hop bitterness. No off flavors.
Mouthfeel is a little creamy, yet still crisp. Good carbonation levels after a strong pour. Medium body.
This is a good staple beer for me. Inexpensive and reasonably flavorful and refreshing. Not too filling so it can be enjoyed in quantity year-round. One of my regular stand-bys.

Bronze copper body with constant effervescence in a lager glass--thick, half-inch head appears tasty... medium-bodied malts with a friendly, yeasty accent--appealing--and yet a hint of corn also... nondescript, thin bodied palate--settles on the tongue, but is fleeting like iced tea...tin, metallic malts--a Natural Light tinge with a little more body.. warms as the glass continues... a bit sweet with a somewhat grainy, yeasty finish...again, nondescript--serviceable and probably a safe companion to pizza or nachoes...
