5$ dollar fills at consumers and even came with a cool Genesee Cream Ale Growler...a absolute steal! Poured into a 16 oz pint glass.
A- Crystal clear yellow gold. Frothy white head that stays and laces the edges of the glass.
S- Malts, sweet grains.
T- Sweet malts, grains, corn rice etc. But all very sweet and mix well.
M- Light, Medium carb.
D- Im good for a few of these, its a nice change once in a while esp for the price but hard to get through more than a few with out becoming bored very bored.

Can poured into a beer mug.
A- Very carbonated, two fingers of head. Darker toned gold then most cheaper beers.
S- Not a lot to the smell. Almost no existant.
T- To my surprise, this beer had a lot of ale flavor (for a cheaper beer). It was not overwhelming by any means, that being said it delivers a lot more bang for your buck then expected. A little aftertaste, but doesn't linger very long.
MF- Very carbonated, with good drinkability, and very little linger.
O- It's a cheaper beer, so that has to be kept in mind. It is very good for the price ($13/30rack), and is a nice little change form the typical cheap american beers.

24oz can split and poured into a tulip.
A: Pours a clear light golden amber with a 1 finger white head. A fair amount of visible carbonation.
S: The standard corn affair you would expect from an American adjust, with a touch of lactose like creaminess. A bit of alcohol comes through.
T: Pale and light malts with a sweetness to them. A bit of a bready note at the end. An alright aftertaste that isnt offensive like most cheap beer.
M: Light to medium body with a good amount of carbonation. A tad sticky but remains mostly crisp.
Overall a very non offensive macro style brew. Easy drinking but dont let it get too warm.

12 oz. can, unknown birth date, served in a 3Fs Teku glass, drank 4/9/13 over one hour.
A: 4 - straw yellow coloration, good clarity, small champagne-like bubbles, one finger white head quickly dissipates into glass lacing, minimal alcohol legs
S: 3.75 - lots of corn, some breadiness, minimal hop aroma --> adjuncty smelling
T: 3.5 - surprisingly, minimal corn flavor hit my palate but clean, light, refreshing, and easy to drink --> nothing off but nothing really on either
M: 3.5 - slight creaminess and smoothness (like cream soda), mild-to-moderate body, low alcohol flavors
O: 3.75 - a nice, refreshing, clean and easy to drink beer that would be a solid lawnmower beer but doesn't offer much else; however, it's a good budget beer that I would not turn down if put in front of me like many American adjunct lagers

Poured into a Samuel Smith pint glass. I think this is the only time I've poured it out of its can.
A- clear yellow, 2 finger white head
S- earthly, grassy, little malty sweetness
T- good sweet and bitterness balance, watery, sweet grass
M- creamy, light, high carbonation, reminds you of something with more bite to it for the same price of lighter bodied cheap beers
O- The mouthfeel and taste are great for a bargain beer. I find this refreshing and provides enough taste for me to realize I'm getting a good deal. I always buy this over bud, miller, etc.

Served from a bottle, but poured some into a glass to gauge the appearance
A: Gold colored with a small white head forming at the top
S: Go figure it smelled like a lot of cream ales, hints of vanilla and some grains
T: Sweet tasting with notes of vanilla on the back end.
M: Very easy to drink, light carbonation with not overpowering elements
O: Overall a pretty good beer and it was found at a great price, so you can't beat that. Definitely worth the money, but I can't see myself buying it at a higher price.

With 2491 etched on the bottom, I assume that it means this beer was made in Autumn of 2011... so this beer is pretty much ancient. I'll try to keep that in mind while typing this up. I had this straight from the can, so I'll skip the whole appearance bit.
Smell: Like I'd expect a cream ale to smell ... a vanilla sort of sweetness, with corn.
Taste/feel: Considering this beer is so old, it's actually not terrible. I get a taste of alcohol on the start with some sweetness and malt, and then it's done. This is about as inoffensive as a beer can get. I don't get many (any?) hops in the taste at all, but it's actually a pretty decent adjunct. As for the feel... meh. I'll have to guess it's the age that's made this one pretty odd. Decent carbonation in the middle, but falls flat on the finish, and leaves a not-too pleasant aftertaste that has Sweet & Low sweetness.
All things considered (the fact that it's an adjunct and that the beer is well over a year old, if I'm reading the dating correctly), Genesee Cream Ale is a very reasonably priced, decent tasting beer. The after taste irks me a little bit, but it's still something I'd much rather drink over a Budweiser, or even Coors... even if it's 500+ days old like this can is.

Poured a sample into a short glass out of curiosity; this is clearly meant to be drunk from the bottle. Clear pale yellow, fizzy white head. Dead ringer for an adjunct lager.
Smell: Faint, sweet, hinting at corn adjunct.
Taste: Corn seems to be competing with malt, and neither one is trying too hard. No discernible hops. Nonetheless, no off-flavors, and the effect is overall pleasant.
Mouthfeel is the strong suit. As smooth as the name suggests, creamy yet light.
Genesee can be a great bargain, and is especially advisable after the palate has taken a beating from more complex brews. Competitive with revived Schlitz as the finest of the cheap American adjunct beers. Genesee shoots for merely "not bad," and runs headlong into "OK."

Appearance: Poured into a pint glass, the head settles to about an inch of off-white froth. The body is golden, with a few bubbles rising to the top, but not many.
Smell: Sour at first, a bit like sour cream. It is slightly metallic, with a faint trace of hops. Not great, but not bad.
Taste: Like toasty malts, with very slight hop bitterness. There's not a lot going on here, but nothing at all objectionable.
Mouthfeel: Smooth and easy to drink. Mine seems a little flat, but it was a cold ride home and this beer may have frozen just a little bit.
Overall: This is a very simple beer--it is also an incredible bargain. I have had beers over triple the cost of "Genny Cream" that were nowhere near as good. I have yet to find a better bang for the buck--this brew makes BMC's comperable offerings look like highway robbery by comparison, as it is both of a superior quality and a much lower price.
A real winner here. Highly recommended.

12oz stubby bottle served in a glass beer mug.
L - clear and yellow with a white head that thins out leaving some thin lacing.
S - grainy aroma.
T - sweet and grainy tasting but that's exactly what I was expecting and looking for.
F - light/medium bodied with good carbonation.
O - a classic if you're from anywhere around New York.

Trying to recapture The Olde College Days, I recently picked up a 6-pack of Genny Cream. It's been over a quarter of a century since those days of walking across campus and seeing a Genesee Brewery truck roll up, offering Genny Cream at $0.25/cup (never glass - always plastic cup).
To heck with nostalgia - the grim reality of why it's been a quarter of a century between purchases struck hard. It is a great 25cent beer for somebody on a very tight budget (PBR seems to fill that bill with those darn whippersnappers today), but this stuff just can't stand on its own.

This brew was served from the tap at The Genesee Brew House in Rochester, NY. It arrived in a house pint glass embroidered with the same name. The beer glowed a pale toasted straw coloring, holding a one finger head of bright white bubbles. This showed low retention, with only flecks of lacing left around the glass as the tasting progressed. No haze or sediment was noted, and carbonation appeared lighter. The aroma showed big adjuncty grain, especially with warmth, white flour, baker’s yeast, white corn, white sugar sweetness, and a final sweet and citric bite of clean hops. Our first impression was that this tasted like a sweeter version of a standard sparkling water. The flavoring opened with mild sugary sweetness as the primary flavoring. This sat high against very mild and very pale adjuncty malts. Citric rind bitterness and browned apple sweetness came towards the peak, with more souring to the pale grain. Orange pulp bitterness pulled us to the finish, where lactics and a light creamy sweetness washed the palate. Sugars of pear helped, but never completely erased the bittering, souring paleness of grain. The aftertaste breathed of adjuncts, mineral, basic yeasty sourness, pale malts, and white flour. The body was medium, and the carbonation was medium to high. There was big froth and bubble on the swirl around the mouth, with nice slurp and smack on each sip. The finish gave crisp pop, with a clean coating left around the mouth. No real dryness was noted. The abv was appropriate, and the beer glugged decently.
Overall, what we enjoyed most about this brew was the taste and the feel. The nose started things off on an overly adjuncty, cheap foot. There was not sweetness or creaminess to be noted, with little else of anything at all for that matter. The flavoring made up for this a bit, but it was overly simplified in its bittering, graininess. Regardless of what you say about this, or how you rate it, this is a Rochester staple, and anyone from the area should be proud to toast of glass of it from time to time.

Have been drinking this ale for years. Tasts refreshing, and makes a nice head in a glass. A great beer for the price.
Have been disappointed lately with the new can exterior graphic design. Makes it look "generic" or something purchased at a Dollar Store. Although the great taste of the ale beer, I would be embarassed to ofer it to a friend, it looks soooo... cheap.

$2.49 for a 24 oz at Han-dee Hugo's in Durham N.C ...which is outrageous.Genny Ice was right next to it for 99 cents.
Tastes great really cold....has that grassy/moldy wheat smell to it when it warms up though...kinda reminds you of a skunky Heineken or something like that so keep it cold.
Very sweet tasting
If youre a fan of Little Kings then youll like this beer.Great representation of a general cream ale.
dont let it warm up....skunkfest will ensue
The can is pretty cool looking too...i would drink this more often but the pricepoint where i live makes it not worth the price,

Golden color with a 1 1/2 finger head with decent retention and lacing. Smells like sweet grain with floral hops. Both the grains and the hops have a very light aroma.
The taste has sweet grain and floral hops. Both are on the light side. Has some balance which is nice, but not much flavor which is too bad. Unfortunately, this is bland.
Light to medium bodied with average carbonation, Finishes dry, with no real aftertaste. This is not a beer I care to try again. Bland.

$1.09 for a 24 oz can. That's cheaper than a can of pop. It contains no caffeine, no high fructose corn syrup. So safe for the kids maybe?
$1.09 for a 24 oz can. That's pretty much my reason for buying this. Cream ale sounds nice, too. Nondescript green can that looks like a mineral water or energy drink. Might even be able to skip the paper bag if you wanted to drink at the public library.
Pours a big darker than your typical pounder beers. A honey brown / yellow. Goldenrod on a bad day. The head is there for a fleeting moment. The smell is quite "beery." It has no odor that stands out to me. In all honesty, it reminds me of standing in a filthy kitchen pouring out solo cup after cup of a Busch beer pony keg. That was how I spent a lot of Fridays in college. Now I buy a single can and write a beer review. Good times back then. Even if the beer wasn't very good.
Ok, so back to the beer. It has a bit more flavor than the average pale lager. There's some toasty / carmel flavor in there. A little hops bite. But this weird metallic taste sticks to my lips. Goes down plenty smooth.
As the beer warms, the flavors become increasingly unpleasant and the mouthfeel goes from decent to wholly undesirable.
It's kind of unpleasant to drink, smells a little off, tastes unusual and frankly uncomfortable with the metal flavors. BUT, it's a 55 cents per 12 oz and 5.1% abv.
It's not a craft beer, not a session beer. This is a pounder beer. This is a paper sack on the bus beer. This is a sneak it into the baseball game in a sock beer. This is a shooting clay piegons in my back yard out in the country beer.
And with that criteria, I give it a 85/100 in the pounder beer category.

Huge ass Tall boy can. Light fizzy head fades fairly quickly at first then slows to a light head covering, just a bit of lacing, crystal clear piss straw color.
Nose hints of a faint cream ale, light wet hay, light pilsner malt and creamy, hint of adjunct malt. Fairly light overall otherwise not bad.
Taste starts with more straw and grainy malts, light creamy and fairly refreshing actually, light wet hay, hint of adjunct corn and sweet malt extract but barely. A touch of grassy hops. Finish is slightly drier but a bit sticky creamy, light grassy hop bitterness, hint of corn adjunct flavor with just a bit skunk like tinny flavor.
Mouth is lighter bodied,decent carb.
Overall not bad. Much less terrible than i expected. Just a touch of corn and dried malt extract flavor, a very light tinny skunk flavor as i think the can helps, and overall decent malt and hop flavors. Surprised as hell, and for $1 for a 24oz can you cant beat that.

Pours a clear, golden color. 1/5 inch head of a white color. Slight retention and poor lacing. Smells of pale malt, cream, hint of hops, hint of sweet malt, and hint of rice. Fits the style of a Cream Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of pale malt, slight sweet malt, hint of hops, hint of cream, and a hint of rice/corn. Overall, the cream aroma and body are weak, and the corn/rice flavor is prevalent in both body and feel.

12oz stubby bottle, bottled June 11, 2012.
It pours a bright gold with a 2 finger head of foam .
It smells of corn, grain, light non descript bitterness.
It taste of corn, grain, slight bitterness, slight sweetness. Pretty good overall; it goes down easy and is refreshing on a hot summer day.
I reckon this is slightly above average for the style.

Poured from a 24oz. can into a lager glass. Poured like absolute shit due to it being so carbonated and from a huge can. Seriously had to stop and continue the pour multiple times because it kept wanting to run down the side of the can and onto my jeans. Anyway, Pours a very adjunct like medium yellow with a two finger bubbly white head, Leaving half decent lacing. The smell was of cooked vegetables, rice, and some corn adjunct. Nothing more, Nothing less. Tasted like a light lager and almost completely follows the nose. This beer MUST have been wrongly marketed as a cream ale, Because it has no characteristics of a a cream ale whatsoever. It seriously tastes like a light lager without the artificial metallic aftertaste. Also, The beer starts to taste very heavily of rubbing alcohol as you get further into the glass. The mouthfeel brings nothing additional to the table in terms of anything. Overall, The beer isn't offensive, Definitely NOT a cream ale. However, Due to it's easy drink-ability , I'll give it a slightly higher score in this category. Would I buy it again? No.

Presentation: can, no freshness date.
Appearance: clear, gold in color with very little head
Smell: Grain and light hop aroma.
Taste: A creamy feel on the tongue. Lighter bodied than I remember. Malt sweet but not overly. Crisp, bitter, a fizzy carbonation. Aftertaste is grainy.
Notes: Born and raised in Rochester area, this beer was a rite of passage in the early 60's. Had to try it again, didn't think it was as strong as it used to be After a night of this beer you were very aromatic and hung over! Not bad for what it is. Would still pound a couple on a hot day down at Hamlin Beach State Park. Not to be kept in your reefer.

I bought this can from my local bodega, I choose this particular beer based on not knowing anything about it. Pours an idyllic macro appearance; pale yellow, soapy head and lots of visible carbonation. The smell isn't bad, corn, malt sweetness and a faint hop presence. The taste is sweet, but not cloyingly sweet, beyond that there isn't a lot. There is a lot of carbonation, otherwise this beer would be a little thin. Overall, if I had $1.50 for a beer budget, this would not be a bad choice at all. Not in any way offensive.

Genesee Cream
24 oz can served, perhaps appropriately, in a plastic cup on a hot summer day.
Pours a clear pale amber with a towering but short-lived white head.
Aroma: nicely malty, with a definite if subdued herbal hop presence.
Taste: hmm, better than expected, with good balance of hops/malt and not bad for sweet/bitter, although a tad sweet mid-taste. Maybe a bit of corn in here too, however.
M: good, medium carbonation; medium-light body is a little watery. 2.75
O: My go to beer many years ago as a student living in upstate NY, this was cheap and more interesting, if not actually better than, the dominant products from AB and Miller. Many years later, this is not particularly interesting or complex, but a decent lager for a hot day. Above average for the price point, even here in the south. 3.25
