24oz can split and poured into a tulip.
A: Pours a clear light golden amber with a 1 finger white head. A fair amount of visible carbonation.
S: The standard corn affair you would expect from an American adjust, with a touch of lactose like creaminess. A bit of alcohol comes through.
T: Pale and light malts with a sweetness to them. A bit of a bready note at the end. An alright aftertaste that isnt offensive like most cheap beer.
M: Light to medium body with a good amount of carbonation. A tad sticky but remains mostly crisp.
Overall a very non offensive macro style brew. Easy drinking but dont let it get too warm.

12 oz. can, unknown birth date, served in a 3Fs Teku glass, drank 4/9/13 over one hour.
A: 4 - straw yellow coloration, good clarity, small champagne-like bubbles, one finger white head quickly dissipates into glass lacing, minimal alcohol legs
S: 3.75 - lots of corn, some breadiness, minimal hop aroma --> adjuncty smelling
T: 3.5 - surprisingly, minimal corn flavor hit my palate but clean, light, refreshing, and easy to drink --> nothing off but nothing really on either
M: 3.5 - slight creaminess and smoothness (like cream soda), mild-to-moderate body, low alcohol flavors
O: 3.75 - a nice, refreshing, clean and easy to drink beer that would be a solid lawnmower beer but doesn't offer much else; however, it's a good budget beer that I would not turn down if put in front of me like many American adjunct lagers

Poured into a Samuel Smith pint glass. I think this is the only time I've poured it out of its can.
A- clear yellow, 2 finger white head
S- earthly, grassy, little malty sweetness
T- good sweet and bitterness balance, watery, sweet grass
M- creamy, light, high carbonation, reminds you of something with more bite to it for the same price of lighter bodied cheap beers
O- The mouthfeel and taste are great for a bargain beer. I find this refreshing and provides enough taste for me to realize I'm getting a good deal. I always buy this over bud, miller, etc.

Appearance: Poured into a pint glass, the head settles to about an inch of off-white froth. The body is golden, with a few bubbles rising to the top, but not many.
Smell: Sour at first, a bit like sour cream. It is slightly metallic, with a faint trace of hops. Not great, but not bad.
Taste: Like toasty malts, with very slight hop bitterness. There's not a lot going on here, but nothing at all objectionable.
Mouthfeel: Smooth and easy to drink. Mine seems a little flat, but it was a cold ride home and this beer may have frozen just a little bit.
Overall: This is a very simple beer--it is also an incredible bargain. I have had beers over triple the cost of "Genny Cream" that were nowhere near as good. I have yet to find a better bang for the buck--this brew makes BMC's comperable offerings look like highway robbery by comparison, as it is both of a superior quality and a much lower price.
A real winner here. Highly recommended.

Have been drinking this ale for years. Tasts refreshing, and makes a nice head in a glass. A great beer for the price.
Have been disappointed lately with the new can exterior graphic design. Makes it look "generic" or something purchased at a Dollar Store. Although the great taste of the ale beer, I would be embarassed to ofer it to a friend, it looks soooo... cheap.

$2.49 for a 24 oz at Han-dee Hugo's in Durham N.C ...which is outrageous.Genny Ice was right next to it for 99 cents.
Tastes great really cold....has that grassy/moldy wheat smell to it when it warms up though...kinda reminds you of a skunky Heineken or something like that so keep it cold.
Very sweet tasting
If youre a fan of Little Kings then youll like this beer.Great representation of a general cream ale.
dont let it warm up....skunkfest will ensue
The can is pretty cool looking too...i would drink this more often but the pricepoint where i live makes it not worth the price,

$1.09 for a 24 oz can. That's cheaper than a can of pop. It contains no caffeine, no high fructose corn syrup. So safe for the kids maybe?
$1.09 for a 24 oz can. That's pretty much my reason for buying this. Cream ale sounds nice, too. Nondescript green can that looks like a mineral water or energy drink. Might even be able to skip the paper bag if you wanted to drink at the public library.
Pours a big darker than your typical pounder beers. A honey brown / yellow. Goldenrod on a bad day. The head is there for a fleeting moment. The smell is quite "beery." It has no odor that stands out to me. In all honesty, it reminds me of standing in a filthy kitchen pouring out solo cup after cup of a Busch beer pony keg. That was how I spent a lot of Fridays in college. Now I buy a single can and write a beer review. Good times back then. Even if the beer wasn't very good.
Ok, so back to the beer. It has a bit more flavor than the average pale lager. There's some toasty / carmel flavor in there. A little hops bite. But this weird metallic taste sticks to my lips. Goes down plenty smooth.
As the beer warms, the flavors become increasingly unpleasant and the mouthfeel goes from decent to wholly undesirable.
It's kind of unpleasant to drink, smells a little off, tastes unusual and frankly uncomfortable with the metal flavors. BUT, it's a 55 cents per 12 oz and 5.1% abv.
It's not a craft beer, not a session beer. This is a pounder beer. This is a paper sack on the bus beer. This is a sneak it into the baseball game in a sock beer. This is a shooting clay piegons in my back yard out in the country beer.
And with that criteria, I give it a 85/100 in the pounder beer category.

Huge ass Tall boy can. Light fizzy head fades fairly quickly at first then slows to a light head covering, just a bit of lacing, crystal clear piss straw color.
Nose hints of a faint cream ale, light wet hay, light pilsner malt and creamy, hint of adjunct malt. Fairly light overall otherwise not bad.
Taste starts with more straw and grainy malts, light creamy and fairly refreshing actually, light wet hay, hint of adjunct corn and sweet malt extract but barely. A touch of grassy hops. Finish is slightly drier but a bit sticky creamy, light grassy hop bitterness, hint of corn adjunct flavor with just a bit skunk like tinny flavor.
Mouth is lighter bodied,decent carb.
Overall not bad. Much less terrible than i expected. Just a touch of corn and dried malt extract flavor, a very light tinny skunk flavor as i think the can helps, and overall decent malt and hop flavors. Surprised as hell, and for $1 for a 24oz can you cant beat that.

Poured from a 24oz. can into a lager glass. Poured like absolute shit due to it being so carbonated and from a huge can. Seriously had to stop and continue the pour multiple times because it kept wanting to run down the side of the can and onto my jeans. Anyway, Pours a very adjunct like medium yellow with a two finger bubbly white head, Leaving half decent lacing. The smell was of cooked vegetables, rice, and some corn adjunct. Nothing more, Nothing less. Tasted like a light lager and almost completely follows the nose. This beer MUST have been wrongly marketed as a cream ale, Because it has no characteristics of a a cream ale whatsoever. It seriously tastes like a light lager without the artificial metallic aftertaste. Also, The beer starts to taste very heavily of rubbing alcohol as you get further into the glass. The mouthfeel brings nothing additional to the table in terms of anything. Overall, The beer isn't offensive, Definitely NOT a cream ale. However, Due to it's easy drink-ability , I'll give it a slightly higher score in this category. Would I buy it again? No.

Presentation: can, no freshness date.
Appearance: clear, gold in color with very little head
Smell: Grain and light hop aroma.
Taste: A creamy feel on the tongue. Lighter bodied than I remember. Malt sweet but not overly. Crisp, bitter, a fizzy carbonation. Aftertaste is grainy.
Notes: Born and raised in Rochester area, this beer was a rite of passage in the early 60's. Had to try it again, didn't think it was as strong as it used to be After a night of this beer you were very aromatic and hung over! Not bad for what it is. Would still pound a couple on a hot day down at Hamlin Beach State Park. Not to be kept in your reefer.

I bought this can from my local bodega, I choose this particular beer based on not knowing anything about it. Pours an idyllic macro appearance; pale yellow, soapy head and lots of visible carbonation. The smell isn't bad, corn, malt sweetness and a faint hop presence. The taste is sweet, but not cloyingly sweet, beyond that there isn't a lot. There is a lot of carbonation, otherwise this beer would be a little thin. Overall, if I had $1.50 for a beer budget, this would not be a bad choice at all. Not in any way offensive.

Pours a clear golden with a medium white head. Aroma of corn. Taste is nice malt sweetness, followed by a neutral, light bitterness. Pretty straightforward. Average mouthfeel. The carbonation is a little high, but not too bad. Overall a decent beer, better than your average macro.

Genesee Cream
24 oz can served, perhaps appropriately, in a plastic cup on a hot summer day.
Pours a clear pale amber with a towering but short-lived white head.
Aroma: nicely malty, with a definite if subdued herbal hop presence.
Taste: hmm, better than expected, with good balance of hops/malt and not bad for sweet/bitter, although a tad sweet mid-taste. Maybe a bit of corn in here too, however.
M: good, medium carbonation; medium-light body is a little watery. 2.75
O: My go to beer many years ago as a student living in upstate NY, this was cheap and more interesting, if not actually better than, the dominant products from AB and Miller. Many years later, this is not particularly interesting or complex, but a decent lager for a hot day. Above average for the price point, even here in the south. 3.25

Poured from 24oz can into a pint glass.
Appearance: golden-yellow hue with a crystal-clear body and a strong effervescence. Head pours nearly two fingers of pillowy white foam. Nice.
Smell: lightly sweet malt with a moderate graininess and a light adjunct-y character (corn, maybe?). Not too bad.
Taste: light malt with a hint of corny sweetness. Quite appropriate for the style. Hops are mild but there is a light noble quality there and a light bitterness. It's actually a decent little beer.
Mouthfeel: light body with a hearty effervescence. Not bad.
Overall: this is actually a decent cream ale. I call it refreshing and decently tasty. Using "overall" for my drinkability score, this rates pretty good.

I wanted to try a "cream ale" and this was all I could find in the state of Maine at the moment. Here goes:
Into a pint glass:
A: clear straw yellow colored body with one finger white head that stayed a good half minute. There isn't much lacing at all, and barely any carbonation was seen rising.
S: mixture of corn, wheat, barley and some malts. All were basically balanced.
T: balanced between the corn, wheat, barley and malts coming through sweet.
M: light with a smooth carbonation, very sessionable.
O: since this is actually my first cream ale, I don't want to necessarily go out on a limb and say this is the best for its style, but I will say that this is very good if evaluated mainly on its taste. I would have this again.

24 oz can poured into a pilsener glass
Appearance - clear straw color with white head
smell - corn, wheat, barley
taste - sweet corn, grain, barley
mouthfeel - sweet upfront, light bodied, low end carbonation, slightly bitter, but goes down smooth
overall - for a cheap beer, this is inoffensive, worth a shot at nostalgia
price point - $.99 for a 24oz can

Pours out golden with minimal head that fades to white blotching with no lacing. Smells of faint corn cob, grain husk, and cooked vegetables. Taste consists of malt sweetness, grains and a little booze, tad bit of bitterness. Mouthfeel is crisp, light, and refreshing with moderate carbonation. Nice change from some of the bigger beers out there. Overall, it's cheap and refreshing, not much else going on here.

Paid .99 with no tax or deposit for 24 oz can on military post in New England. It was a sweet deal for me since this can would set you back two bucks in the South. Poured from can down the side of pint glass. Purposely left no remarkable head but a thin lacing remained throughout drinking period. Darker than your average lager but lighter than your average ale. Smell is not repelling but not the best. Taste is bready, sweet at first then slightly sour, definite caramel with slight alcohol aftertaste. Tons of bubbles and they stick around. This is my favorite beer to pair with pizza and cheesy foods, and Genny definitely got the price right. Rock on Genny!

In the glass right out of the can Genesee has a slightly darker appearance than most American Lagers, a very nice amber coor and hue.
Aroma is that of a normal full flavor beer, somewhat equivalent of a standard Budweiser, with a dash more hop aroma.
For flavor it is not bad at all, a very drinkable beer for the price. Genesee seems to have a bit more pride for the price so to say over Country Club and Natural Ice for the buck. Overall it is one of my favorite beers of the cheap variety.
If you are in the market for a drinkable beer for a price that will virtually not affect the wallet at all...Genesee is your beer hands down.

genesee cream... wow! i remember my old man and his best friend drinking this in the late 70s early 80s @ the hunting cabin in "PRATTSVILLE NY"... and probably the "PRATTSVILLE TAVERN" as well... i myself hadn't had this in quite some time and picked up a 12 pack today... in my opinion this is one of the smoothest most drinkable brews i have had... no nasty aromas or after tastes to be had.. and maintains a thin cream like head throughout.. its thin but its there... far exceeds any offerings from BMC... good jod Genesee... keep it up! P.S. our thoughts are with the people of "PRATTSVILLE NY" hope to see you all soon at the tavern...

A moderate pour delivered two and a half fingers of foamy, creamy off-white head. Body is a light straw color and there is quite a strong strike force of bubbles rushing to meet the line up at the top.
I smelled cheap beer and bread as soon as I cracked the can open. Sweet corn came at once after I poured and sniffed. Light smell of abused hops.
The flavor delivered more than I expected. Malty bread up front was strong and pleasant. This passed onto a sweet bread flavor that was ever so slightly different than the first flavor, then onto a light sweet corn/toasted cereal flavor that ended with the weakest hop attempt I've ever tasted. Not really what I look for in a beer, but certainly pleasant.
Body is light, bordering on medium. It attempts a creamy finish that it just can't seem to pull off. With that said, it is certainly thirst quenching and not unpleasant in the mouth at all.

Saw this in a 24oz for a buck, never had it before, so why not?
Mug fills clear fizzy gold, gigantic (1/3rd of the mug actually) white foamy head. Smell reminds me of apples - and biscuits somehow. Subtle, yet more prominent than a beer this cheap usually brings. So, does it overachieve? Only one way to find out...
Taste is as the smell advertized, plus some rice (hey, it was a buck), though the latter is not cloying. Dry with a very slight estery aftertaste, goes down thin but with persistent fizz -- which helps in this case actually.
For a beer you can get for a buck at the Kwik-E-Mart, you don't expect much, but this does bring more than most in that price point.
Not bad. Not great, but not bad.

A: Pours crystal clear yellow with a finger high fluffy white head which exhibits moderate amounts of retention. There is a light amount of visible carbonation in this beer. There was a pretty decent amount of lacing as well.
S: Aromas of slight skunkiness and something I could not identify but was definitely unpleasant. The aromas of this beer are the worst part of the beer.
T: The flavors in this beer are very light and creamy but with subtle hints of malts and sweetness.
M: Light bodied with moderate carbonation and a lovely creaminess that coats your mouth.
O: For a more macro-beer, this is better than most but still not something that I would consider better than average overall. Certainly not the best cream ale that I have experienced and certainly not the worst. If the aromas of the beer were better, it would be a huge improvement in the enjoyability. I have not had this beer since college in the early to mid 1990s but it tasted exactly as I remembered it.

A: The beer is crystal clear yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high white head that quickly died down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: There are skunked aromas of adjunct malts on the nose.
T: Similar to the smell, the taste has flavors of adjunct malts.
M: It feels light-bodied and creamy on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation. The beer coats your mouth a little bit.
O: The mouthfeel and drinkability are the strongest points of this beer. The taste isn’t anything special but then again isn’t overly bad. I could drink this beer all day long.

picked up a thirty pack for $15 for my brothers birthday because he is a cream ale fan. poured into a pilsner glass very slow still resulted in a four finger head. luckily the head recedes very quickly to a bright white foam cap about a quarter inch thick. the cap stuck around for the remainder of th drink and left behind lacing from top to bottom of the glass. the body of the beer was a crystal clear light golden color with a million bubbles rising to the top, unfortunatly this is the best part of the beer. the smell and taste were like someone poured cream soda over corn flakes. very sweet with a lot of corn flavor. mouthfeel is a medium to thin body with good carbonation. creamy feel with a slight hops presence. overall this is a pretty average cream ale, worth trying.
