It is a large attractive space, but unfortunately noisy with about 3000 video screens and TV audio blaring. If you can ignore all that, there is a very nice selection of beer on tap. Bartender went out of his way to give good service when there was a problem. $-wise - well, 2 pints plus tip ended up being $16… Yikes, it costs a lot to go out for a brew, doesn't it?

Awful service.
Way outdated Taplist.
Decent food.
Dishonest server.
Overcharged on the bill until pointed out.
Bartender used the restroom and exited without washing hands.

Needless to say, I will never return.

I love shopping for cheese and greens at Reading Market (plus the roast-pork 'wich at Dinic's!). Every time I lock my bike outside the market, I peek across the street into Field House... I assumed it was a crappy place, until PhillyTapFinder told me to go there to have the rare Yards Imperial Stout.

The place is rather massive- that bar alone can sit the entire population of Chester, Iowa, I swear. They've got lots of real estate here. I sat at the end/beginning of the bar, near the door and next to two people drinking Miller Lite. The bartender came over pretty soon, I got my Yards Imp Stout...

What can I say? This is not the kind of place a BA craft lover would choose to hang out. This is more for the business types and commuters (there is a Septa station right next door). But if you happen to be around, hey, they do have 40 taps...

Sometimes the beer selection here is surprisingly good. Food is pretty decent

Service is often slow, though, especially at the bar which is always crowded.

The typical clientele is more sports bar than gastropub or beeradvocate, but I've had some fun here watching games or attending happy hours.

Prices aren't bad either.

not a craft beer destination - this is a big loud sports bar. very crowed on a weekend night, have to fight to get to the bar for a drink. The best you could do for beer is some local Victory and Yards.

Do not come here for good beer! The tap list looked pretty good but the list was out of date, first three I asked for weren't on anymore. The wait staff was clueless, couldn't recommend anything of similar styles and when I ordered an IPA they gave me a Wheat.

We stopped in here for a beer and a bite to eat and really enjoyed ourselves. Not the best tap list we encountered, but good enough. Walked from right across the street after check in at our hotel. We were looking to try some of the local beers and were not disappointed. They had some good beer cocktails too. We ordered a bite to eat, and the roast pork sandwich was really good. This was a nice alternative to eating at the Reading Terminal Market which was way too crowded. Service was friendly, and mostly prompt.

The space was nice, dark woods, booths, tables and lots of tv's for sports watching. Nice big bar. We would visit here again for the varied tap list, the beer cocktails, and the roast pork sandwich (which was better than the famous one across the street).

The Field House is a sports bar inside and behind the Hard Rock Cafe on Market Street. Their actual address is 1150 Filbert Street as their proper entrance is there, just across the street from the Reading Terminal Market.

As is the case with most bars and restaurants these days, they've realized that their customers demand a better selection of beers, and they've increased their offerings well beyond the usual American standards and imports. They have an extensive draft list, and quite a few interesting bottle and can selections as well. Most of their tap selection is local.

Here are a few highlights:
Victory Schwarz Pils (draft $6)
Round Guys Buh-nana Hammock Saison (draft $6)
Weyerbacher Insanity Ale Barleywine (draft $6)
Yards Love Stout via Nitro-pour (draft $6)
Manayunk Altercation Altbier (draft $6)
Brooklyn Blast! IPA (draft $6)
Schneider Aventinus (16.9 oz bottle $10)
Broederlijke Saison (750 ml bottle $25)
Goose Island Sofie (650 ml bottle $22)
Old Forge Blonde Ale (16 oz can $5)
Sixpoint Bengali, Resin, or Crisp (16 oz cans, $6 each)

As for food it's elevated "pub grub"...
Soft Pretzel $7
Cheesesteak Dumplings $10
Cobb Salad $14
Crab & Pork Scrapple $10
Fried Oyster Po'Boy $13
Fish Tacos $12
Margherita Pizza $12

The place has an interesting beer history. It started as a Red Bell brewpub but they never got it off the ground. They handed it off to Dock Street, which then became Independence.

If you're into sports bars but also like good beer, this is the place for you. Or if you've gto time to kill before your train home. Or if you're visiting town and staying near here it wouldn't hurt to stop by, although there are a lot of other great spots nearby as well. For a lot of different occasions, it's worth trying.

I've been here a few times now, while waiting for the train (damn you SEPTA for locking every door on the Market Street side of Market East Station!) or needing a place to catch a game. It's your basic upscale sports bar with about 50 TVs. Kind of a weird layout with the bar taking up one side and tables on the other. Beer selection is on par with the Fox and Hound--mainly bigger micros, BMC, conventioneers drinking Corona. The Sunday sixer seems a good deal at $12 or $14. The Sunday I was there had six oz servings of Hennepin, Round Guys Saison, Prism Bitto Honey, Indian Brown, Sweet Action and Trauger Pilsner. Quality has been mixed, so it's probably a good idea to ask for a sample of some of the more obscure things before making a commitment.

Coupla' other notes:
Haven't tried the food yet, menu is basic upscale sports bar food. It's across the street from Reading Terminal Market which has everything imaginable and a block or two from all sorts of good asian places in Philly's Chinatown (try Pho Cali, Joy Tsin Lau or the place on Race St with the Peking ducks hanging in the window.

It is attached to Market East through an office building. Not sure if that entrance is always open.

And finally, check to make sure that they're not hosting an event for a team you abhor. One time when I was here a guy made a total ass of himself starting a fight with a bouncer because there too many fans of his team's rival.
