Brewed at Thomas Hooker Brewing.

Our first Stony Creek beers are (203) India Pale Ale and (860) India Pale Ale. Each mildly different yet truly American IPA’s. Packed with Cascade hops from Washington’s Yakima Valley, Stony Creek IPA’s have a thirst quenching citrus flavor and aroma. We balance this with light crystal specialty malts to bring you a deep golden beer that drinks easy, and won’t leave your taste buds wanting for anything.

From the can, it pours a hazy amber color with a nice white head that soon diminishes to a robust ring. Citrus in the nose, along with some breadiness. Citrus in the mouth as well, over a malt base. A bit of spiciness as well.

A; cloudy; pale gold in color; 1 finger ivory head that receded to a wispy cap; nice rings of lace;

S: overripe pineapple and orange;

T: overripe pineapple - less intense than the aroma;

M: medium bodied; moderate, creamy carbonation; lightly dry finish;

O: re-released and reformulated as a NEIPA; vastly better than the original version of (203), but just slightly better than the average NEIPA;

Had on tap at the Home restaurant in Branford back in late 2014. Poured into a pint glass. Interesting to drink this beer that was brewed at Hooker when the new Stony Creek Brewery is being built near by. Pours a lighter color of amber, near orange, not a lot of head. Smell is pretty malty and light, touch of hops. Taste follows suit, it's pretty bitter but the hop flavors don't come out much. Malt backbone is pretty prominent. Not a great IPA, similar to that of an old Harpoon IPA. Pass.

Aroma: There is a definite breadiness to the aroma, with citrus present leaning towards orange w/ floral notes. There is a roasty, smell - not strong just sitting right with the other flavors as far as balance. Mild alcohol scent, not jumping out of the rest of the aromas tho.

Appearance: SRM is about 4-5. Clarity - slightly cloudy, & a golden copperish color. Head size was about 1/2 an inch at first pour and then very quickly dropped to a quarter of an inch with good amount of thickish lacing as you drink. Head texture is foamy, not too dense w/ an ivory to cream color.

Flavor: The flavor has a dark, toastiness to it. There is a dryness & crispness to the flavor that works. There is a citrus quality to it I would say grapefruit and mild floral tones. In terms of balance I would say it definitely skewed to the bitter end w/ some sweetness- not much.

Mouthfeel: Medium body and with medium to slightly effervescent carbonation here. Definite creaminess w/ no real trace of astringency & perhaps slightly slimy residually but not much at all. Finish - medium dry IMO.

Overall: The alcohol content is in the pocket for an IPA @ 6.10% ABV. Has a lingering bitterness, carbonation, citrus with hints of toast overall. Pleasant beer & good for a pint of something different.

Pours a light yellow with a thin head. The smell is mostly hops, seemed a bit one dimensional. The taste was very bright with a lot of floral bitterness from the hops but with some balance from the malt. The only thing I really didn't like too much in this one is the aftertaste is not very good and it sticks to your mouth and lingers far too long.
