Poured from a 12 oz can. Gotta love cans in the summertime.

A: Surprisingly light colored straw. Pours thin, lemonade like. Nice 1 finger head but it dissipates very quickly to none. A little bit of fine, dotted lacing. Not best looking beer. But a true unfiltered, yeast in suspension, fine haze beer.

S: As noted not a big waft. Light, faint, little bit of esters, yeast, hops, more Orange, coriander, but very light.

T: Tastes better than smell. Excellent blend of sweetness, coriander & Orange, citruis, yeast smoothness and drying, tingly tartness. Finish is dry. You could session this beer. My wife loves this beer. Nice take on style, and more refreshing and sessionable than lesser ones.

F: Mouth feel is light. Lighter than lagers. Smooth. easy to drink. Moderate but tingly, refreshing carbonation.

Pick the right foods and this is a great beer. If your partner likes white, belgian, blue moon, then give this a try. I view it as a summer beer, nice to surprise guests with.

Like many complex, spicy brews this one gets better as it warms.

However, follow it with an ale and my mouth goes WOW with the ale (in this case Smuttynose Shoals Pale Ale), they actually each make the other taste better!

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a white color with a 1 inch head. Smell is of citrus, some spice. Taste is good, citrus up front, some mild spices at the finish, very easy drinking. Feels full bodied in the mouth and overall is a solid beer, I imagine it would be refreshing during the summer.

Poured into a Sam Adams glass, developed a light frothy head, appeared highly carbonated, like many of the Belgian beers. Color was a hazy straw with lots of bubbles. Aroma was sweet and of citrus and grain. Taste was light with hints of lemon and orange and a grain aftertaste. Mouthfeel was light and carbonated.

Bright pale straw color, very hazy. Good amount of carbonation rising. Thick foamy head that dissipate slowly. Leaves a nice lacing behind.

Aroma:
Sweet, wheaty, bananas, orange citrus, coriander spice, yeast.

Taste:
Banana, orange peel and coriander spice up front. Sweet pale malts, a little cracker. Tartness towards the backend of the palate. Finish is dry. Light bodied, refreshing, but leaves a chalky aftertaste, very sharp carbonation.

Overall:
It's decent.

Trying to hit some of the Avery beers before they leave the state. Going with a wit on a cold snowy wintery night.Julian date 202, so not too fresh, but not excessively old either. Can poured into SN tulip.
Soft aroma overall. Wheat with mild spicing. Touch of fruit.
Poured with big full white head and quite a bit of lacing. Slightly cloudy darkish gold.
Flavor is nice. Fairly strong fruit presence. Some drying. Yeast laying on the tongue. Touch of lactic. Seems a little vanilla.
Carbonation is filling, but not that big in feel or effervescent. Moderate body and pretty darn soft.
This held up pretty good for age. Subtle signs of age, but really not an issue. Good solid wit.

12oz can
Served in a pilsner glass

A - It is a cloudy, straw yellow with a couple inches of fluffy white head.

S - It smells like a spicy adjunct at first.

T - It is spicy. They yeast esters are what stands out.

M - Moderate with biting carbonation.

O - It is a decent beer, but my appreciation for the style is waning.

12 oz can (date stamp 12204B6, 14:16 264) poured into a Duvel Tulip.

Appearance: Cloudy golden orange. Thick white head upon pouring, which died down to a thin sink across the top. Lots of rocky lacing in sheets, strands, and islands. Good looking beer.

Smell: Dusty yeast only. I could not pick out much else. It was rather unpleasant.

Taste: White grapes, wheat malt, sweet, very mild bitter finish - a hint of citrus in there...just the barest amount of orange peel. Not the best Wit I've had, the spices emphasized on the label are not at all notable by me.

Mouthfeel: Carbonation just a bit lower of what I think a Wit should be. Juice like thickness underneath.

Overall / Drinkability: Glad I bought just one, not something I would try again. Overall a sub-par Wit. Good looking beer, and neat name and label, but it doesn't live up to the hype. Oh well, not every beer can be amazing.

A: Poured a yellow, light golden, hazy body. I got a LOT of head on mine pouring into a regular pint class. It took me a while to finish the pour because the head was so extreme. Fluffy, white, shiny head with a seafoam texture. Very pleasant.

S: Grains, wheat, lemon (a very sour citrus aroma), the coriander and orange peel they advertise is definitely present at the end. Smells like a typical belgian white.

T: Also tastes like a typical belgian white. Full of orange, corriander, and lemon zest. After the citrus notes up front, you get spiciness in the middle with a crisp, clean wheat finish.

M: Light-bodied, nice, moderate amount of carbonation. Pleasant and refreshing. So clean on the finish, all it does is refresh. Nothing lingering.

O: An easy-drinker. Perfect for a summer day. Not my favorite style, but they nail this style handily.

UPDATE: i just drank 12 oz of this in about five minutes flat. Did I mention it was an easy drinker? My Whole Foods sells craft beer singles and I noticed this one on the shelf and only picked up one (in a can, might i add--kudos to Avery because cans are the way to go, IMO)--I'm glad I only got one because again, this isn't my favorite style...but this beer is IDEAL for a craft beer beginner, or a craft beer geek even, who doesn't like big beers, thick beers, or hoppy beers but also wants more substance than a pilsner or light lager.

Canned 10 April 2012. Tasted 4 September 2012, reviewed from notes.

Pours pale straw yellow, a very dry yellow. A bit of soft haze clouds the lgass. One finger of white head, starts out pretty and fluffy, but fades to just a thin ring around the surface.

Smells more like a hefeweizen than a wit, but it's nice. Big Belgian yeast, heavy on the spices, especially clove. Some softer spices dancing around that. It feels like a bubble, with this light spice layer floating above a difficult-to-see emptiness.

Taste is clean and crisp, with a touch of hops and a citrus twang. Pretty good, but more inoffensive than impressive.

Mouthfeel is quite good - light, clean, and moderately dry in the finish.

This beer is a little funny. If the can didn't tell me otherwise, I'd guess that it's a hefe, not a wit. But whatever it is, it's tasty. Smell, full of warm spices, is a highlight.

Very cloudy yeller with a sloppy bright white head. Eh retention and lace for a wit.

Yeasty hay and peppery orange aroma. Smells very, very sweet.

Doesn't taste as sweet as it smells, which is a good thing. Tastes like an orange spritzer more than a wit. More of that yeasty hay or peppery-ness from the aroma would be nice if it made it into the flavor profile.

An average wit elsewhere it's the best wit in a can that I can think of. Not sure what that's worth. A lot if you're at the beach I guess.

Poured into a pint glass, its party cloudy with mild carbonation and is a beautiful blonde color, think of the morning sun shining through a wheat field. Its topped off with a nice thick white head, and thins out into a layer of uniformed bubbles corralled by mild lacing. Spices like coriander, orange zest, mild pepper corn and something else I can’t put my finger on all envelope your tongue as you drink. It’s light bodied throughout, this beer is very smooth and you can taste some apple, wheat, orange zest as it hits the sides and back of your mouth, its aftertaste is filled with a mild pepper corn flavor and it’s slightly bitter overall.

Not a fan of Belgian Ales to begin with. This is par for the course with me. Definitely not the worst I've had. Would still drink this beer over any Domestic Lagers. I will give this beer a try again in the future just to be certain that I'm not on a vein of IPA adoration.

Avery White Rascal Belgian White: Wow, very good Belgian whit beer from Avery! I am a whit beer fan, but great ones are hard to find in the US. The White Rascal is a beautiful pour, with a striking straw yellow color and pure white head that does lace. Not perfectly clear, but I would not call it hazy either. The aroma has loads of citrus. The flavor has a balanced blend of citrus and honey. I am not a big fan of spices in beer, but the coriander blends well in this brew. Avery produces a top shelf bomber series, and their mainstream products are above average. The White Rascal is another example of an above average product.

A-Straw yellow, cloudy unfiltered. Thick bubbly white head, quickly dissipates with nice lacing.

S-Straw. Grass. Coriander. Funk.

T-Grassy at first then a faint orange, spicy flavor.

M-Very light, easy to drink. Low ABV very sessionable, definite summer drink to me.

O-Decent Belgian Wit; light, funky, tasty. Very easy to drink a lot of these on a hot summer day.

Poured from a can into a Goblet.
Deep, hazy yellow with 1 inch of head disapates slowly to 1/4 inch with persistant lacing.
Smells strong of fruit and yeast, very pleasant. Maybe some florals coming through.
Just the right amount of weight to it, not too heavy or light.
The taste is much like the smell; fruit, yeast, malt and a hit of hoppiness to balance the sweetness. It may not be the prototypical witbier, but I prefer the full, complex flavor of this version to it's more sedate brethren.

A: Pours a hazy golden yellow in color with some light amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a thin white head that is mostly comprised of larger bubbles that reduces to a thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light lacing is observed.

S: The smell of this beer is rather mild with light notes of lemon citrus and some spices (clove).

T: Similar to the smell, the beer has flavors of wheat along with lemon citrus and some clove spice.

M: Light bodied with light to moderate amounts of carbonation.

O: Easy to drink, refreshing, and sessionable - this is a nice summer beer. I could see myself picking this up for outdoor events as the beer is good and the can form-factor is also nice.

Extremely hazy and extremely pale straw color (can't see through the extremely pale beer at all). Sticky bright white head. Sweet and heavy banana bread on the nose. Some clove and nuts. Touch of underlying fruit.

Thick creamy mouthfeel. Banana nut muffin taste through out with a spicy coriander and clove bite on the finish. Hops present just enough to cut everything to make for a clean finish. Noticeable yeast presence but its quite nice. Tasty brew available in cans and highly drinkable. I'm into it.

Pours a very pale yellow with good head and great lacing, smells very loud.. if that makes any sense.. all sorts of herbal and spice notes with citrus and grass, not exactly something i loved but it sure was interesting. Taste was funky and there was a lot going on, funky on the tongue.

From a can (I know, heresy) obtained from a 6 pack at QFC in University Village near UW campus. Aroma is very sweet. Banana, citrus, gum, and very delicate. Very inviting a pleasant. Appears bright, but translucent. If you mixed orange juice with pineapple juice, I feel like that’s what this looks like. One to two fingers of white head. Tastes like sweet, fruity citrus. Pineapple, banana, coconut, plenty of other tropical fruits. It’s not overly citrusy or carbonated, it really has an incredible balance. It might be too sweet for the average beer drinker, but it’s just right for me. Palate has a perfect balance as well. Good carbonation, no bad residual flavors, goes down smooth. I can’t think of anything else I would ask for. Overall, this is one of the few beers that I feel comfortable buying a sixer of. It seems like no matter what mood I am in, I could be in the mood for this. This beer is what turned me on to Avery, and now I know I won’t go wrong with picking up any of their high brow stuff.

12 oz can served cold into a pint glass.

White rascal is a very pale yellow color with a hazy clarity. The head is thick at first after a vigorous pour but settles quickly.

Aroma is sweet, slightly citrusy, and a Belgian yeast brings a little bit of banana.

Flavor is mild with similar character smelled in the aroma. Lemon, banana, and vanilla cake.

Mouthfeel is very light in body and mild in carbonation.

Overall sort of an unusual beer. No where near what the best wits offer but an ok beer for a summer afternoon.

12 fl oz can served in a weizen glass, reviewed live:

A - Pours a nearly transparent honey yellow color with a soapy white head of 2.5 fingers. Retention is surprisingly good and the head leaves nice lacing as it recedes.

S - Lemongrass, spice (coriander?), honey and spicy wheat. Pleasant but mild.

T - Spice forward. Clove and coriander open to lemon and a nice pale malt and wheat foundation. Loses its flavor towards the finish, which is watery. Disappointing, considering the nose and open.

M - Way too smooth and wet. Needs to be much more crisp.

D - Definitely a good offering, but far from anything special.

Humongous white head over yellow beer that's mostly clear but slightly hazy. Good lacing on the way down. Smells great - spices, coriander I think. The taste is also good, very smooth wheat beer flavor with spices. Easy drinking, a good session beer. The only real problem I have with this beer is the mouthfeel, which is really, really thin and watery. Not as good as Hoegaarden but pretty good.

From a 12oz can.

Pours a hazy straw color, white fluffy head, fades at a decent rate and leaves some patchy lacing on the glass.

Smell has mostly a lemon zest aroma from the citrus, dash of coriander and even a bit of orange.

Taste is surprisingly tame and watery, from the nose I thought the flavor would be stronger, the primary flavor is the citrusy zest, assertive carbonation borders on fizzy, taste fades away very quickly, yeasty aftertaste, the lack of body makes this more disappointing than what it could have been.

As others have said, probably a good stepping stone but I'd sooner reach for a superior Allagash White.
