12oz bottle purchased at Yoke’s in Mead, Washington, for $8.39. According to the label, this was bottled on September 21, 2012 after it was finished with it’s barrel-aging.

Poured a dark russet color that took on a dark red shade when held up to the light. Very miniscule head.

Aromas of raspberries, funk and cab-sauv mingled together.

The word tart best sums up the taste at first. The sweetness of the raspberries lingers in the background, combining with and balancing with the sour flavors. There’s a sharp dry stab at the swallow.

Medium bodied, with a prickly and effervescent yet coating mouthfeel. Carbonation is a little low, but not to a troubling degree.

Well, this is my first true “Wild Ale.” It occupies an intriguing place between beer and wine. I’m not certain I could drink numerous examples of the style in a sitting, but I’d be quite happy to have this again on a solo basis.

Poured from the 2012 version, 12 oz bottle into the test glass
A - Dark ruby color, opaque backdrop conceals gentle carbonation. Assembly topside is modest, off white and disorganized. A lovely ring corrals the island grouping.
S - Cabernet notes, black pepper, grape skin, tannin. Balsamic reduction, rapsberry reduction as well. A bit of darker fruit fig as well
T - A smorgasborg, fruits, tannins, pepper, as the offering warms a bit of tobacco, all rotate around a Cabernet sun. A slow night with a favorite lover of flavors, each go round renewed, lust and satisfaction.
M - medium in body, tart start, sweet moves. tart finish. Tart in the best ways. time has removed some of the edges, which eases the experience.
O - What a treat, the construct of red rapsberries and cabernet barrels sounds dicy. This avoids that and veers into another place altogether

A 12oz bottle with a bottled on date of 9.21.12. So its 5.25 years old

L - Ruby red with not much head or lacing. Gorgeous though. Almost burgundy color.

S - Red wine, sourness, and funkiness. A lot going on in the aroma - all amazing things.

T - Very tart and sour. Raspberries are present. Acidic and vinegar at the finish. Tastes amazing

F - Medium body and still well carbonated. sizzles on the tongue

O - This one certainly aged well. Awesome sour.

2012 ventage. I was assuming it would be a little too old but not so. Dark red appearance with no head. Aroma is a little sour raspberry. Taste is also a sour dry raspberry without any aftertaste. In general this has aged very well.

Thanks to rudzud

Light fizzy head, touch of dot lacing, hazy brown auburn color.

Nose tart berry funk, raspberry syrup and acidity, fresh berry, little vinous funk, some alcohol, creamy raspberry ice cream.

Taste brings sweet candy syrup, raspberry candy syrup, generic tart berry and sour raspberry, fair sourness, with candy sweet sugar, and a little flemmy funk, little wheat malt, mild reddish malt, mild phenols, touch warming booze. Little bitter seed, semi sweet sticky finish flemmy acidic funk and big raspberry with some funk.

Mouth is med bod, little carb.

Overall nice raspberry, tart and light funk, very little cab barrel, feels like it's dropped off from what it was at one point.

Dark Amber color with zero head.

Tart cherry and fruity vinegar with a touch of oak.

Big influence from the Cabernet barrels and finishes with a beautiful red raspberry and light vinegar. Wonderfully complex with tart cherry character, spice and very tart green apples.

Light in body with a vinous mouthfeel. Such an easy sipper. It would be easy to put down a couple of these. The alcohol is well hidden with just a hint oh heat.

Appearance: pours a deep reddish brown. a finger or just more of a tannish head with strong retention and leaving behind a pretty solid lacing. hazy and opaque but some brightness around the edges.

Smell: strong tart cherry to raspberry. spicy red wine influence along with oak and some wild yeast. ends with some fruity vinegar.

Taste: opens up with a juicy cherry. fruit flavor really opens up with some raspberries and possibly some blueberry. huge red wine influence filters in with spicy and oaky red grapes. strong tart green apple skin, along with some green apple flesh. ends with a very fruity vinegar taste.

Mouthfeel: strong dryness, along with quite a bit of acidity. tartness is slightly puckering.

Overall: probably not ideal that I am drinking this one at 2+ years old but I really like it. huge complexity and such a strong fruitiness really makes this a great beer.
