APPEARANCE: This beer looks like a bubbly rose. When held up to the light a very pretty and bright red shines through with a lot of bubbles popping up from the bottom. A large patch of sediment also sits at the bottom, but doesn't cloud up the beer. It stays separate.

SMELL: It requires a swirl or two to really bring out the full aroma, but it is a very pleasant one once you do. Tart apple and sour lead the way with some lighter fruit as well.

TASTE: Like the nose, tartness dominates here. Some fruit juice-like flavors also mingle as a slight swell of chocolate flavor subtly rises towards the middle of the sip. This beer tastes like a nice, tart, medium bodied red wine.

MOUTHFEEL: The Sauvage is a much lighter and more playful beer than I would have expected given its color. A nice sparkle and medium body give it a pleasant mouthfeel.

OVERALL: In my opinion, the Recolte is superior to the Muscat D'Amour. I liked them both, but I can pass up the Muscat if I see it on the shelves again, this one I will not.

Man was this a let down. Not that it was a bad beer. I just thought it was going to be the best thing that has ever happened. A sour, aged in all these barrels. I thought this was going to be Avery's golden gem other then Brother Jacob. But instead it was like most of Avery's beers. Drinkable.

Bottle courtesy of fortsambo. Served in a mini snifter. Pours dark with a thin head and not too much retention. The nose has a heavy whiff of red-wine grapes along with oak and acidity. Dark fruits and berries in the background. Flavor is similar, with a heavy emphasis on the barrel character. Medium body. A bit tannic. Interesting, but not something I’d revisit right away.

Shared at a line up with all the Avery sours, this was one of the not horrid ones and in this group that is a compliment. This one was more vinous than I expected but by this time all expectations were lost.

Beer is reddish / brown with a tan head, low retention, no lacing, some carbonation, Looks good.

Aroma is sour, secondary metabolites, sharp, vinous, grapes.

Beer is a little fruity still but the sharpness of the finish sort of detracts from the experience for me, it is way sour, very tart, a little solventy. I don't think I'd have it again.

Similar quality to its sister-release, the Muscat D'Amour-- Good, but not great. I like the medium-to-full-body character. The taste has some complexity to it, but nothing really shines. A decent Cab Sav grape/red cherry dominates, with a hint of oak. Minimal sourness, and not much on the finish. Mine was a bottle purchased at the release about 9 months prior at Avery.

12oz bottle.

Pours a hazy reddish brown with a tan head with pink hues. Head is smallish and recedes to a thin cap with spotty lacing.

Aroma is very much like a red wine with plen Cabernet characteristics, but with some sweet sugary notes mixed in. Definitely some oak as well. Nt much Brett that I detect.

More red wine up front in the taste with some sugar and yeast underneath. The finish is dry and earthy with a heavy red wine slant. Brett makes an appearance but is not as prominent as the wine.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Having just had the last barrel series, this one doesn't quite stack up to the Muscat D'Amour, but it's not bad. Definitely for the red wine lover.

Pours a deep, dark red color with a small off-white head. Holy crap does this smell sweet. Intense grape aroma and just as much sweet jam kind of smell. Lots of berry type notes to it (blackberry and boysenberry, mostly). The flavor is no different. Intense sugary sweetness with berry jam and overripe grapes dominating. Some red wine, a bit of wood, and minimal tartness to break up the sweetness.
