*Vintage Review* For reference Only.
2006 Bottling. 9.5 abv. 22oz Bomber Gifted and reportedly stored "properly". mmhmm....
Barely perceptible "phhtt" upon opening, it poured a still, clear yet opaque deep brown. Slowly, tiny tan bubbles rose around the edges and formed a thin film before fading back to the perimeter. A swirl of the goblet throws a quick to die ring that leaves a sugary speck or 2 of lace behind to cling like scattered stars in an evening sky.
But that's where the beauty ends with this old timer. Stored well or not, this bottle did not stand the test of time.
The nose is vinegar - which is probably where this review should stop. But I've had nasty smelling beers that tasted ... ok so...
Hey - some breweries charge extra for crap that smells like this. Notes of the loads of dark and caramel malts used in this just can't break through the sour, pasty, oxidation.
The nose really put me off but the flavors, while thin and chalky, do remind me of the malt beast this was in it's prime.
Sad that this sucked but I appreciate the gift no less though am glad I didn't invite friends to share.
Down the drain she goes....

This beer held up extrodinarily well for its age. Smell and taste has a raisin sweetness to it, which is a personal favorie of mine. The very tail end of the taste shows its age.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled in 2006. Pours hazy almost opaque dark brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Slight spotty lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big raisin, prune, grape, caramel, toffee, molasses, banana, clove, toast, chocolate, light roast, and dark earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of malt and yeast ester notes; maybe some slight oxidation but its hardly even there. Taste of big raisin, prune, caramel, chocolate, toast, toffee, molasses, clove, dark bread, light banana, light roast, wheat, and earthiness. Lingering notes of dark fruits, caramel, chocolate, toast, toffee, molasses, clove, light banana, dark bread, light roast, wheat, and earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of dark malt and fruity ester notes; with no cloying sweetness present after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a creamy and slick mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Weizenbock at 7 years old! Great balance and complexity of malt/fruity ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.
