On-tap at the Avery Tap Room. Served in a Nonic, Piglet arrived with a copper hue hue and a small, yet dense cream head. The head sticks well and good lace is left behind.
The citrus aroma I have received from most American IPAs is absent. Instead, a strong dose of pine, pepper and clove greets the nose. Malts are relatively subdued, but have a deeply toasted quality. In the mouth, the beer starts out dry and toasted. Bitterness hits fast with a relatively strong pine and pepper bite. It lingers through the dry finish. A moderate body that has soft carbonation rounds things out.
Piglet was a nice shift from the citrus bombs that are most American IPAs. I'm really glad I gave it a try.

On tap at the brewery. Got there right when it opened. Around the back of a warehouse. The bartender was a very cool chick. Apparently they are moving to a new bigger location soon… very cool. Light brown color with a white head. Piney with citra hops… awesome nose. Tastes very smooth. A nice balanced hoppy bitterness. Mouthfeel is smooth and refreshing. Enjoyed this one very much.

On tap at the brewery in August 2009. Reviewed from notes.
Pours a moderate brown color with a white head. Nose is of citrus zest along with a bit of pine. Some caramel sweetness as well. Taste hits harder on some of the hoppy notes, but with a somewhat restrained bitterness. Body is fairly thick and nicely bitter. Drinks alright, although the combination of the body and the taste is a bit off. Overall, an interesting concept and quite good.

A- orange hazy with a white thin head. A bit dark for an IPA
S- a bit of hops and caramel. Not much else
T- very light citrus rind hops caramel. Not tht bitter at all
M- pretty thin and low carb
D- An OK IPA. Easy drinker though. Just not very complex or hoppy

On tap @ O'Briens Pub (San Diego, CA) on 11/10/09. Served in a pint glass.
Pours a clear coppery amber, with a thin covering of creamy brite-white head. This retains with a sturdy look, leaving some decent patchy lacing behind. Fresh pine and citrus exert a hoppy presence here in the aroma, being evened by a nice balancing tang of bread and caramel. Pretty much like a lighter version of the Hog Heaven Barleywine.
The taste starts with a firm bite of resins and some lighter spicy notes. Juicy citrus character and sticky feeling toasted caramel malts keep things in check. Some light drying spice lingers past the finish for a good while. The mouthfeel is medium bodied overall, with a super easy and creamy feel to it. Hugely drinkable stuff here at only 4.4% that earns it's name as a "Session IPA".
I've been waiting a while to finally be able to try this and I was pleasantly surprised. Fairly hefty presence here for a sub 5% beer that combined with the generous amount of American hops, really did take this somewhere between an American Pale Ale and IPA. Quite the drinkable little hop fix.

On-tap at Blue Palms,
A: Pours amber with a thick white head, good retention, great lace.
S: Pine hops, pretty one-dimensional.
T: Biscuit malt mixed with a nice mix of earth, pine and cedar type hops, raw tasting.
M: Soft carbonation, medium-bodied, real light aftertaste.
D: Not a bad pale ale, I expected more, but it was adequate for quaffing.

On tap at Falling Rock in Denver during the GABF. This is an interesting concept for a beer - a mild barleywine of sorts - and an AWESOME and hilarious name, which I want to give it points for.
A - Absolutely nails the appearance - clear amber color with an incredible fairly large and lumpy white head and excellent lacing.
S - Aroma is caramel and citrusy hops. Somewhat IPA-like, but maybe a little muted.
T - Caramel malt and rough grapefruity hops, maybe a little graininess as well.
M - Body and carbonation are medium with some sticky hops on the palate.
D - Very high. This is a great session beer.

I had this beer on Tap at Hamilton's in San Diego.
A- Very nice deep copper color. Head was a bit thin.
S- Fantastic citrus aroma.
T- Heavy on the hops and light in the malt.
M- Thin. It certainly had much less viscosity than I anticipated.
D - Very high. This should simply be marketed as a IPA Light, no disrespect intended at all. I believe it was only 4.5% ABV and is the best cross over of between a hop bomb and a session beer that I have seen in a while.

Pizza Port Carlsbad. They also had the best description: like a lighter barleywine. Copper-brown pour with no head. Pungent aroma of resin and malt, a lot like Hog Heaven. Lighter mouthfeel. Caramelt malt and hops blend well. Pine, grapefruit, and wood notes in there as well. Definitely a Hog Heaven-lite.

Consumed on draft at Pizza Port Solana Beach 10/13/07.
Beer pours a light, clear copper with good retention of its nice white head. Nose is mostly floral hops with a piny, resiny smell mixed in. The flavor is dominated utterly by citrus hops with their characteristic sourness and bitterness. Mouthfeel is watery. The aftertatse is, surprise! Dominated by hops that linger literally for a minute on the tongue before fading.
This is a straightforward hop juice with little complexity.

Pint from Naja's Place in Redondo Beach
Pour was a deep brown with a foamy white head
Smell was full of citrus, mostly oranges and lemons
Taste was full of pine hops and bitterness
Nice twist on an IPA
Very drinkable considering its thickness and supposed high ABV
Hope this is bottled soon because last time I checked it was not

Poured a clear dark copper with a medium sized lasting light amber head.
The nose was full of hops! Lots of pine, woody aromas and grapefruit. Not a lot of malt aromas but there is some carmel notes in there.
The taste is great if you are a hop head. Lots of hops in this one, mostly woody and pinev with some grapefruit and other citrus notes. There is just enough carmel malt flavor to back up the hops.
The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with light carbonation and very smooth.
This is very easy drinking beer (as long as you love hops). Hope to see them sell this one in bottles soon.

Appearance: Copper brown with fizzy white head.
Smell: Citrus and spice, and of course very hoppy.
Taste: Low malt bill with a nice balance of Pine and citrus hops, and a hint of alcohol in the finish.
Mouthfeel: Very light for a mix between a Barleywine and an IPA. But expected from the low ABV.
It's a very drinkable session beer.

Unlabelled bottle from mentor. Mucho gracias. Had an Avery bottle cap on it. I was warned the carbonation could be over the top so I poured carefully but it turned out alright.
Poured a dark and heavy tarnish color. Strong head with some crazy speeding bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass. Nosenis mostly malts with a slight hint of evergreen.
The head had strong hop flavors. Kind of a surprise considering the aroma. Flavor was strong in the evergreen department and had quite a bit of tannins. Was there some wood used in the making of this beer? A bit watery though which kind of took away from the beer. Slightly dry mouthfeel. Nice IPA but kind of makes me think of a homebrewed beer.

12oz (unlabelled, but with official Avery cap) bottle from Mentor as part of BIF 33/The Race - Team Spring. Thanks for the opportunity.
Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 1/2" light tan head above the slightly cloudy orangey amber brew. Head fades slowly, with plentiful sticky lacing. Aroma is frash and clean citrus air, with light malt undercurrent. Taste is incredibly well-balanced, yet the citrus hops still shine nicely for a moment, then fade back into the nearly even scales. Mouthfeel is super smooth, almost floats over the tongue, and drinkability is superb as well. Can see why this is Avery's in-house brew.

Simple, yet vibrant hop aroma, with hints of various fruits (orange, pineapple, grapefruit), along with notes of pine and grass. Red-orange color, with a gigantic froth and very, very clingy lace. Flavor is very hoppy, with columbus hops, and a nice caramel backing. Thanks for the special surprise, Ernest.

Perfect pour. Clear amber with everlasting lacing - even small globs of foam remain on the glass. Smell is equal parts floral and citrusy hops. A little bit of alcohol on the nose as well. Smells very juicy. There's also some caramel in there. Taste is again a blend of floral and citrus. It's a bit harsh on the finish as there isn't quite enough sweetness to balance the bittering hops, and the alcohol does make a brief appearance. However, the hop blend is tasty enough. The mouthfeel is a little thin for my tastes. Drinkability isn't bad.
