Not a bad brew. Nice color in a rich amber plus a tall head sits on top. Plenty of lacing too.
The smell is malts and candied sugar/ The taste is along the lines of an Abbey to me with some malty sweetness and candied sugar and warming alcohol in the finish.
Drinks smooth. I like, it tastes good.

Poured on-tap in a 2oz taster at Chapter One in Santa Ana, Calif. Reviewed from notes.
A- One finger white head with some spotty lacing. Lovely retention. Reddish-auburn color, wonderful clarity.
S- Dark fruits and some alcohol smells. Medium bodied malts and fruity alcoholic esters.
T- Earthy and citrusy hops, light fruits and creamy malt sort of back. Hoppy and bittersweet. My favorite quad ever.
M- Extremely light and fairly dry.
O- Best quad I've ever had. Wasn't like any other.

Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass
Appearance – Served a hazy ruby/mahogany color with a small white head. The head faded relatively fast to leave a lighter amount of lacing.
Smell – The aroma was heaviest of a dark fruit smell mixed with some brown sugar. Mixed with these sweeter aromas is a light yeasty smell as well as some yeasty notes.
Taste – The taste starts out of the dark fruits that were detected in the nose. A cherry and raisin flavor greet the tongue with a light hint of some fig. The fig and cherry continually get stronger as the taste advances. While this occurs some flavors of yeast and a light spicy flavor come to the tongue. In the end a light alcohol flavor comes to the tongue as well, and mixes with the rest to leave a fruity and warming feel on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body is silky and smooth with a carbonation level that is rather average. The body and carbonation are quite nice for the fruity flavors. With the brew sliding through the mouth with all the nice flavors and the warming tastes it keeps any one flavor from becoming too overpowering and unbalancing.
Overall – A very nice “American” Quad. It has a nice fruity flavor mixed with a great feel and a very nice warming taste. Tasty and well worth a try.

Sampled at 2012 Autumn Brew Review, from notes.
Dark reddish orange pour with a beige head. Smells candied sweet with banana, plums, floral and cloves. Taste is not as sweet as the smell suggests, although still quite sweet, there are turns of raisin, currants, cherries, and clove-spice notes that try to keep some order to the candy sweet and malt base. Seems better on draft than from what I remember from a bottle.

About an even medium red leaning burnt red-light brown in the middle, this beer produces a small, tight head off the tap. Retention is pretty good and there are thin, broken near-rings of lacing along with some spotting.
To be honest, I'd never really known what style The Reverend actually is, and I'd never tried it before. There are a few dead giveaways to the style, though it's not as complex as others of its kind or as rich. What it has going for it is that, firstly, I could never know it's a full 10%, as the alcohol is masterfully masked while maintaining a presence and it's simply a solid, balanced, flavorful beer if not that deep. One knows it's a Belgian from the obvious banana and clove-like elements that come only from the Belgian yeast. Combine that with the dark color, the strength, and the dark fruits & candi sugar flavors and you know it's got to be a dubbel, tripel or quad. This one's a little different, though, with a bit of leafy and spicy hops to it and a faint woody sort of note as well.
The masters have this one beat in the feel; sometimes, in an effort to get that rich, full creaminess and strength without the heaviness, a beer goes toward being overly carbonated and crisp enough just to fill, almost like facsimilating a creaminess. This beer tends that way. It could also use more heft for a quad.

Bought a half gallon milk jug of this beer which came out to be five good beers. Very good drinkability and very nice smell. Went very good with gourmet mediterranean pizza. Kind of a slight pilsner ending taste. Malty more than fruity. Will definitely drink this again and again. This beer with pizza and a good mma fight made a wonderful night.

On Tap at Taco Mac Virginia Highlands. 11 oz. Pour.
(Appearance) pours a clear deep copper with light brown accents. Off white head and light surface cover. Quite clear. Looks good. 4
(Smell) smells of mild fruit tones, Belgian yeast, coriander and various mild spices. mild bitterness to the aroma. Interesting and light. 4
(Taste) much more fruit in the first taste, including grapes, apricots, oranges, peaches. Bold coriander spice on the finish. Very nice and quite fruity tone to it. 4
(Mouthfeel) very slick with a bit of airy carbonation in the midsection. Medium/heavy body. Medium alcohol presence. Pairs nicely to the taste. 4
(Overall) A worthy experience, this beer is another great one representative of its style. 4

On-tap at Barcade, served in a goblet. Enjoyed during an extended Donkey Kong session leading up to closing time.
A: Clear, deep rosy-amber body under a fine cap of white foam. Not bad, but a bit light for the style.
S: Booze, chocolate, and overripe fruit. Not bad, but a bit harsh.
T: Sweet raisins and dates up front, with equally sweet biscuity + bready notes midway through. Long, sweet, boozy finish. Tasty, but rough.
M: Nice full body with carbonation to match. Luxurious.
O: Enjoyable enough, but a far cry from a good Belgian Quad.
Cheers!

Great lacing, clear to light amber body, great retention, sticky appearance.
Sweet caramel, peaty smoke, some grainy cardboard. Smells a bit floral on the back end.
Tastes very very sweet. Wow! Like.... Caramels dates raisins and something beyond... Like. Oh gosh, fruit sweetness! Apples.
Creamy, just a tad bite of coffee bite, low bitterness, alcohol is just insanely well blended!

had the pleasure of enjoying this one on tap in asheville, nc at the thirsty monk some time ago.
lovely head, beautifully light brown color.
yeasty, malty smell reminiscent of bananas/candy and various spices. extremely enticing.
bready, date-y taste, with a spiciness that is to die for. hard to tell it's quite so alcoholic.
so easy to drink, and so delicious. the well-stocked bottle shop down the street has had this many a time, and I have bought bottles numerous times in addition to having it on tap. this has got to be one of the best of it's kind that is readily available.

From 12/1/11 notes.
a - Pours a somewhat transparent dark red color with one inch of off white head and light carbonation evident.
s - Smells of mint, fruits, spices, cloves, floral notes, and light rbeady malts. Fruit and spices mix nice together.
t - Tastes of spices, pepper, cloves, bananas, apples, fruity malts, light bready malts, and light alcohol. More spices than the nose.
m - Medium body and low carbonation. Pretty smooth here.
o - Overall a nice quad. Some nice fruit, especially in the nose, and pretty easy to drink for 10% ABV. Would have it again.

Red-amber with golden highlights and a finger of beige head.
Faint nose, with some alcohol and cherry.
Intense, chewy caramel taste, powerful malt and faint hop finish. Some raisin and dark cherry. This is really something special. A bit of alcohol warmth.
Mouthfeel is thick but not syrupy, just enough texture to support the bold taste.
Overall outstanding as a quad, paired with a bacon BBQ burger, alternately chadder, brie, gouda.
This was not nearly as good in a bottle when I tried it again later.

Had on-tap at Avery. Poured a nice amber color with a decent beige head that laced nicely and had good retention. Aroma was that of yeast, bread, sweetness and some fruits. A little more citrus-y than I would prefer on the nose. Tasted of yeasty, earthy, fruity (more dark fruits this time, definitely some cherry) and a tad spicy. A good finish that does not overpower the palate...very pleasant.
Medium bodied with good complexity and balance. VERY drinkable, especially for 10% Be careful!

Served on-tap in a goblet. The Reverend is dark copper in color with a head that faded quickly and left a thin sheath of foam on the surface. The smell was very yeasty and strong in dark fruits such as raisins or plums. It was exorbitantly sweet, probably the sweetest beer I've had to this point, complete with dark fruit and clove flavors so strong that at times I felt as though I was drinking liquid Juicy Fruit. Feels very thick and warm and smooth in the mouth, and the carbonation doesn't bite much. Overall a solid quad, but one I wouldn't pair with a Cajun Crawfish pizza (again).

Tap at the Ale and the Witch.
Rather than going through the motions, I'm going to do a quick summation as to why I think this is a beer worth skipping - unless someone just gives it to you.
O: When you first sip this, it tastes like legitimate Quad - except, the carbonation seems to fizzy for the style. But the flavor never develops. Quads should unfold their many layers. This hits you with the same surface flavors over and over again. It was a chore to finish the final quarter glass. Of the selection from Avery I've tried, this is the only one that I don't like a lot.

First had: on tap at their brewpub
Poured a clear amber-orange--perhaps a little lighter than I'm used to seeing in a quad--with a foamy beige head that retained and laced well. Toasty aroma, bready, yeasty, with candi notes, and some dried fruits. Sweet malt base in the taste, caramel, candi sugar and molasses, cherries and currants, a bit of alcohol-y phenols, but nothing that really negatively affects the taste; a bit of spicy hops in the finish. Medium body, and lots of flavor; very nice to drink.

I had this one on tap up at the brewery's tap room. Poured a nice amber color, with a minimal amount of light white foam. Aromas of light brown sugar, caramel, candied fruits and alcohol. On the palate, this one is fairly sweet, with a nice bready character and a lingering alcoholic warmth.

Nice clearish amber colored pour with tan layer of foam head and some spotty lacing left around the glass.
Small mild hint of sourness in the nose, but overall its a big malty beer. Some alcohol burn powering through the taste as well. Not as complex as other quads I've had - it looks nice, but I just didn't dig the flavors all that much. worth a try, but not something I'll be seeking out again.

a nice quad for a buck 4 oz pour, at the time one of my favorites on their line up, not so much anymore. gotta love avery
Appearance - an orange amber, decent head
Smell - cloves, molasses, apples?, malt
Taste - the same plus a little hot on the end, some candi sugar which is also actually on the nose
Mouthfeel - smooth, not robust, definitely a nice one for the summer for me, crisp, not overally sweet

lucky enough to get to try this one on tap i was thrilled when i saw it make its appearence. served in a 10 oz pour.
what a wonderful pour as the thick brownish colored liquid comes pouring out of the glass and rings the inside of my tulip with loads of light tan lacing and a firm head of two fingers.
aroma is everything you would want in a quad. rich malty backbone, hints of prunes, figs, earthy tones and light caramel sweetness that is balanced nicely against a tight profile of light spices. really well done. very nice full feel with near perfect carbonation is exactly what i was looking for. the flavor opens up with loads of dark fruits and brown sugar colliding with light spices and a smooth, even flavor that hides the alcohol and smooths the palate. really just a tremendously good offering here.

Draft to chalice
App- In the glass its almost a burnt orange with some yellow radiating highlights. A 1/2 in of head remains with some nice sticky lacing.
Smell- A bit sweet and not very big at all. Booze and some sugars. The stylistic dark fruits are missing. Something just seems light to this one.
Taste- A nice boozy beer on the front and a bit sweeter vs the style as mentioned above. Has a spritzy orange tangering flavor to it. A very crisp quad.
Mouth- Medium bodied and medium carbonated. Left me a candied orange liquor flavor.
Taste- A pretty good quad albeit a small one. A direction I didn't see it going in but thats okay since taste was pleasant. I will probably come back to this one.

Pours out like a nice black tea with a decent inch of head lacing glass nicely...
Smells of belgian yeast and dough, I can barely smell it, maybe it was served too cold?
tastes of sweet maple belgian yeast and alcohol
Smooth creamy on the tongue, a bit syrupy which I like, light medium carbonation.
I would recommend this to anyone

On tap at the Yardhouse at Colorado Mills.
Thin tan head and deep burgundy color. Very plesant aroma of abbey phenolics. Tastes of caramelly malt and banana, but the body is appropriately thin. Some hop bitterness on the back end, but this isn't hoppy in any real sense.

On-tap at Ale and Witch, my favorite new bar.
A - The beer is brown, with a normal head and regular appearance for the style. Nothing at this point suggests anything amiss.
S - Uh oh.
T - Uh oh.
M - There is nothing too terrible about the feel, except that the actual beer is contacting my sensory faculties.
D - The smell and taste are astonishingly bad, so there is just no drinkability here. It is so bad that I do not have an inclination to commit not-critical elemental observations as to the experience. In the interest of summarizing my objection to this brew, however, I will pontificate on this matter of sheistiness. There is a nasty wet hay element in the malt and a horrendously foul mushy pea aroma from the hop 'contribution'; the essence of the beer is putrid.

On tap at Old Chicago Westminster on 12 November.
A ten ounce pour that was dark reddish brown in color came with no head. Temperature was a bit too cold so after first sip, let sit a few minutes. Aromas of malt goodness with a touch of fruit. Taste was malty goodness with very little bitterness. Alcohol content was present but not overpowering. Drinkability is good if you limit yourself, otherwise I'd say lower due to the brew being 10%. I've had this brew on several occassions and will sip it again, though one is generally enough; glad this was a small pour versus a bomber.
