Pouring a deep black with ruby tinting around the edges, Out of Bounds also has a creamy, tan head which gives way to an attractive, spotted lacing.

The aroma is a bit faint, but with distinct traits. Predominately, bitter chocolate, dark fruits and roasted grains. These carry over into the taste, which is originally tart but then switches over to roasted malts, black coffee, charcoal and mild hops.

Though a tad watery, it still possesses a smooth and creamy body that leads way into a dry, slightly chalky finish. It has a light enough carbonation for the style, but still enough to make it noticeable.

Overall, I think this is a beer definitely worth trying. It’s Avery though, they can’t really do much wrong. Such a solid brewery. The fact that it’s not too heavy makes it very drinkable and makes me wish I picked up more than one for my evening.

Bought this almost by accident. I was filling a mixed six at Ryan & Casey's in Greenfield and this was staring me in the face, it was relatively cheap and it is a stout, one of my favorite styles, so WTH.

Poured into a tulip glass from the 12 oz. bottle.

a. Black and more black, half finger tan head dissipated slowly leaving a ring clinging to the sides which mostly remained and deepened as the glass was drained. Nice!

s: Mildly malty.

t: Porter. Why did they call it a stout? Oh "out of bounds stout." Nevermind...

m: Moderate with plenty of hop bite. Smoother as it warms.

o: A surprise that it tastes so much like a porter, apparently a hopped-up stout. Perhaps a bit thin for a porter and definitely for a stout, nevertheless a quality brew and a bargain at the $1.25 it cost me. I'd definitely buy more ...the next time I want porter.
