Notes:
Jockamo I.P.A. is a traditional India Pale Ale made with the best pale and light crystal malts that give the beer a copper color and malty flavor. This full-flavored beer is hopped and dry hopped liberally with Willamette and Columbus hops from the Pacific Northwest and has a 6.5% A.B.V. The spicy aroma of the hops contrasts nicely with the pleasant sweetness of the malts. Jockamo has a flavor that entices and excites the palate.

Pours a slightly hazy dark orange with a foamy beige head that settles to a thin cap on top of the beer. Small patches of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus zest, and some herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same with a slight onion flavor on the finish. There is a mild hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty average beer that has a somewhat unappealing hop flavor to me.

A: Pours a mostly clear dark copper in color to amber with some light amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a two finger tall foamy beige head that reduces to a thick film covering the entire surface of the beer with a couple of small thick patches and a medium-thick ring at the edges of the glass. Very significant amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of citrus hops with notes of grapefruit, orange, and tangerine.
T: There are light to moderate flavors of caramel malt sweetness underneath some stronger flavors of citrus (orange/tangerine) and spicy hop flavors. Light to moderate amounts of bitterness in the finish that lingers.
M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Just a hint of crispness but slightly thin.
O: In a style where there are some many great offerings, this beer just does not stand up - it is not a bad beer just pales in comparison to others. There are decent hop flavors but not the intensity or bitterness that I enjoy.

A-Jockamo pours hazy and dark toasted orange in color. Head is massive. Over a finger's width of doughy off-white cap. Lacing comes in light rings and random spiderwebs.
S-Sweet bread and flower petal hops. Blatantly balanced. Soapy, fresh linen fabric softener hoppiness. Candied citrus. The nose boasts good intensity, but the hoppiness is almost overshadowed by the malt. More English than American.
T-Bath soap hops (combination of soapy and perfumey) and caramel. Cake batter. Lighter citrus notes. Not much bitterness at all. Again, this is balanced. Hops almost taste sweet themselves.
M-Medium bodied. Soft bubbles. A bit sticky. Little bitterness or dryness. Takes a while to polish off a glass.
O/D-Super good deal at the local store (indicating its lack of freshness). This is more of an English IPA or a Pale Ale in my eyes. Lacks any muscle via the hops. I will imbibe the rest of these straight from the can. Maybe I will like the convenience better and in term enjoy this boring brew a bit more.

A - A nice copper color with good clarity and a nice creamy look. 1 finger of head and nice sticky lace all over the glass
S - Lots of grain and maltiness. Hops are not very prevalent for an IPA
T - Like the smell, a huge malt backbone. Slightly bitter finish
M - Medium mouthfeel
O - A huge malty IPA. Not recommended for huge hop heads. Hops are present, but just dry and bitter. Not my type..

Poured from a bottle into a tumbler pint, the beer is a bright, crystal clear, amber-hued copper coloring with a decent, bright white, frothy head that starts around a half an inch and settles quickly into a filmy coating that clings to the glass as you drink. Aromas of resiny hops, pepper spice, a heavy roasting, and a touch of cannibus riding a caramel backbone. The nose is very strong and imposing with its characteristics. Flavors are surprisingly sweet compared to the hop-centric nose. Caramel and roasty backbone supports a green, resiny, and heavily pepper spiced hops character, but it is the sweet and slick first and foremost. The hops end up being more spiced than anything, and hit the end of the palate through to the aftertaste. Thin body, so the beer becomes slightly sharp after about half a pint. The finish is slightly bitter and drying, but the thin body and slick feel don't allow much of a drying feel settle in. Meh.

A. Semi opaque brown color, with a ton of foamy white head that leaves a good deal of lacing and some bubbles underneath.
S. Malt scent along with a fruity softness.
T. It has a bit of a cheap dark fruit taste to it. Malty. Not very bitter for an IPA.
M. Refreshing and a nice carbonated feel on the mouth.
O. It's nice, but it's just a bit lacking in the IPA category. It's not very flavorful.

A - dark orangish amber with a thin cap of dense, white head that has decent retention
S - bready, faint birthday cake, pineapple, grapefruit, faintly soapy
T - bread, sweet, birthday cake, citrus, faint bitter finish
M - medium bodied, crisp, a tad overcarbonated
This is a really good IPA. If it were more full flavored it would be great. I wouldn't mind having a six-pack of this on hand. I'll definitely get more.

[Suggested Glassware: Shaker Glass]
The pour was a clear medium amber with an average (1-2 finger) off white frothy head that was fully diminishing, leaving behind only a very small collar and fair streaky lacing.
The aroma was of a mild caramel malt and light floral hops with hints of caramel and citrus (orange).
The taste was very light and mildly malty sweet with a touch of caramel early on, and then became lightly hoppy with a mild bitter citrus peel ending. The flavor was average in duration being mostly of a slight bitter taste that faded away at a somewhat steady pace.
Mouthfeel was light in body and watery in texture with a soft carbonation.
Overall a decent light IPA that was very mild in flavor and did possess a really good drinkability...

This brew poured with a one finger pure white head that dissipated and left a decent amount of lacing on the glass. The body was a clear, chestnut-brown with lots of active carbonation visible on the brew. The nose presented with notes of fresh grapefruit, quickly followed up by a bit of nuttiness. On the first sip, I found the brew very watery with a decent amount of carbonation. After I got used to how thin the brew was, I got definite notes of hazelnut on the brew with some minor bitterness. I didn’t find this an overly hoppy brew, especially for an IPA. There was also a bit of sweetness and nuttiness that lasted onto the finish, which lasted for awhile. Overall, this was not a fantastic IPA. I wouldn’t rush back to have this again.

A: The beer is clear amber in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a two finger high beige head that has good retention properties and consistently left a thin head covering the surface and a thick coating of bubbles down the sides of the glass.
S: There are aromas of grapefruit and tangerine from the hops in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the taste has citrusy flavors along notes of spiciness and a light to moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels a little shy of medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation along with a bit of crispness.
O: This beer is easy to drink and has some nice citrus aromas and flavors but probably won’t please hopheads because it lacks much in the way of bitterness and crispness from the hops.

Served in a chilled tulip glass.
-Appearance 3.5: Pours out a brilliant amber-gold. I cranked the end of the pour and a beautiful 1 & 1/2 inch head popped up and hung around until my first sip.
-Smell 4.5: Wonderful bouquet on this beer. Deep, warm, hop overtones but also a hint of brown sugar and somewhat buttery. Very promising.
-Taste 4.5: Front is filled with a delicious, subdued hoppiness and the middle is smooth and there is a very nice buttery malt flavor. Finish is light, hoppy and satisfying. Aftertaste is where the grains come through and is just excellent.
-Mouthfeel 4.0: Excellent carbonation that adds to the enjoyment of this beer. Somewhat creamy; the carbonation is almost perfect. Almost.
-Overall 4.0: Wow, excellent IPA. The flavor profile on this beer is off the scale and is just amazing. Everything is restrained and expertly executed. One of the best IPAs I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. Highly recommended.

This brew was served from the tap at Tap and Mallet in Rochester, NY into a Brooklyn Brewery pint glass, and glowed a golden red color. There was a half finger head of creamy tan bubbles, leaving sticky sheets of lacing around the glass as it departed at a medium pace. No haze or sediment was noted, and carbonation appeared active. The aroma was bright with piney hops, bubblegum and banana esters, pale malts, light toast, and tea/herbal dill qualities. Our first impression was that it was tasty, with nice herbal qualities. The flavoring opened with watered citrus, herbal hops, bright dill, and lactic sour cream. The middle peaked with more bittered hops and citric rind. More pale malts and toast came in, with more yeast, lemon juice, and copper at the finish. The aftertaste breathed of citric and piney hops, mint, metallic yeast, dill, and light esters. The body was medium, and the carbonation was medium. There was soft slurp and sip, with light coating and mild astringent drying. The abv was appropriate, and the beer was very easy drinking.
Overall, what we liked best about this was the herbal quality to the nose and taste. The dill gave a very unique air, and made for an interesting, refreshing beer. If you like IPAs then this would be a nice one to try for you, but if you’re just looking for something new, then you can probably find something more exciting elsewhere.

12oz bottle served into a Great Divide pint glass.
Review from notes:
A - Pours a copper orange with 2 fingers of rocky head with average retention. Very little lacing left behind.
S - Sweet crystal malts, citrus hops, bready aroma.
T - Matches the nose with sweet grainy malt, hints of caramel, citrus pith bitterness, doughy yeast, pine comes out as it warms. Hops come through stronger on the finish.
M - Thin feel with medium carbonation.
Nothing wrong with this, just an average IPA. I could take it or leave it.

This is an odd one...poured a bright tanned-copper with a decend head that faded quickly. A thin white ring remained throughout. Liked the look.
Getting the scent of sweet biscuit, light caramel, and a bit of orange zest and grassy hops...but something seems a bit off for an IPA, but i can't put my finger on it.
Hmmm...the elements did not mix very well, making an almost oniony taste...actually making my nose run...i wonder if i'm alergic to the cajun hops or something...lol. It's almost like the specific combo of hops they used with the malts just clash. Carbonation is ok, light drinking for an IPA.
Well, this is one of the available beers in the Abita 12 mixer...let's hope the others are more of an improvement.

Pours a clear copper color with nice fluffy white head with foam that clings to the glass. Smells of pungent hops, mostly Columbus. Herbal, woody, and a bit of dank hop goodness. Smells a tad sweet - likely mostly from the hops but also from the caramel & red malts supposedly added per the back bottle label. Bitterness up front with generous hop flavor. Tastes similar to the nose. Malts add a sweetness to compliment the nice hop character. Feels about medium and alcohol is well in check. Overall, a very nice IPA. Perhaps overlooked. I really dig this! Drink it fresh.

Perhaps a fresher bottle, or this flavour combination just suits my personal palate better than other BA’s, as I found this bottle a pleasant surprise - glad to have bought 6.
Pours a clear, orange amber with limited head and minimal lacing. Not a lot of carbonation in the mouthfeel, but by no means flat. Tropical fruits and caramelized malts in the aroma, with quite a unique flavour profile. A sweet beginning transitions abruptly to an earthy, bitter finish - almost pineapple/mango directly to astringent. Quite different, but I like it!

Poured clear amber with a frothy head.
Pine and earthy malt in the nose.
Sweet malt, tangerine, juniper, and earthy and grassy hops. A very unique flavor profile -- more dank than fresh. Juniper notes instead of pine is interesting, but seemed to sharply constrast with typical citrus notes and grassy flavors.
Mouthfeel seemed a little weak and undercarbonated to me.
Not sure this really connected with my personal flavor preferences, an interesting mix of flavors that didn't really do it for me. Unique though, I could definitely pick this out of a lineup.

Ba Review #179
Served On: 06/28/2012
Glassware: Duvel Glass
Labeled ABV: 6.5%
Date/ Code: -
This was in the 2012 spring mixed 12 pack.
Look: Poured a brilliant copper color with some impressive head lacing from a thin beige film. Carbonation bubbles were a little sparse, but were noticeable. The clarity was probably the strongest quality in the appearance.
Smell: Onion skin and some sweet malts. The aroma could remind you of Oskar Blues Deviant Dale.
Taste: First off was a pungent garlic that could make your eyes water. Then a sweet hint of malt carried into a lingering bitterness. A residual sweetness seemed to return just before the palate went clean. Mouth feel was very smooth and worked well with the intense oniony character of hops. Very complex and very interesting for a lighter IPA.
I found this to be a very unique IPA with the complexity of a Deviant Dales, yet with the drink ability of a SN Torpedo. For a single IPA, this was amazing.

If you have never been to Pinocchio's in Media, PA, you need to visit their bottle shop, which is a misnomer since they always have a wide range of CANs for sale.
My IPA Day rolls on, CAN you dig it?
Jockamo is the phonetic pronunciation of "Giacomo" as in Laura San Giacomo and if you don't dig, groove on imdb.com and especially "Sex, Lies and Videotape", in which she appeared.
What does any of this have to do with the price of tea in China, you are probably asking and since I have no idea, let's move on.
The Crack left me feeling the love as some of its foam jumped out to greet me! I love these craft CANs that are filled to the brim - I am definitely getting my money's worth. Man, I have not downed this many successive IPAs in a while and even my Hops Monkey jones has subsided. The Glug netted a finger-and-a-half of dense, tawny head with great retention in the onslaught of humidity. The lacing that began to appear reminded me to get on the horn and rent a jackhammer to remove it all later. Color was a deep orangish-amber with NE-quality clarity. Nose was odd, it had a kind of garlic/onion twang to it that reminded me of Gubna. Mouthfeel was medium, approaching fullness and the taste was nothing like the nose, so maybe I was mistaken. Instead, it had an earthy quality, more akin to an English IPA than an AIPA. Whoa! The finish really tasted like garlic/onion, so maybe I was not too far off after all. I am afraid I am going to have to dun this one for its lack of info on its packaging. The bottom of the CAN was stamped: "Best By 08/30/12" so freshness was not an issue, nor was storage as it went from Pinocchio's cooler into my reefer. This was kind of disappointing as I usually like Abita's beers, but this one was not making it for me.

Bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: Pours a nice copper-orange color with a thin off white head that fades quickly and not much retenton or lacing. just a nice color really.
Aroma: Piney, spicy hop aroma. Some tangerine citrus zest. Soapy and aromatic. The red malts are noticeable.
Taste: For the most part it's spicy. Similar to a RyePA. Piney with a hint of citrus lying underneath. Juniper berries perhaps supplying some of that piney spiciness along with the hops? Sweetness from the malt variety fairly obvious before finishing with a slightly bitter metallic finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a little higher than average carbonation. It's flavorful, I'll give it that, I just don't like it that much. The flavors are a bit of a mess and the metallic taste just didn't cut it for me. Much better IPA's out there.

Pours a clear, dark orange-amber color with a decently retained, frothy, cream colored head. Random spots and flares of lace mark the glass. Aromas include tangerine rind, orange juice, lightly sweet caramel malts, and a grainy, grassy overtone. Flavors include biscuity malts and caramel, with citrus and grassy hops lending balance. Medium bodied and moderately carbonated, it drinks easier than its 6.5% would suggest.

Nice head over orangish beer. Good lacing. Fresh, clean, strong piney smell. Are there some juniper berries in there? It almost has a gin-like quality to the smell. Very interesting.
The beer has a gin-like flavor too. Juniper berries are the strongest taste, followed by piney hops. It has a lively mouthfeel because of the interesting taste and the decent level of carbonation.
This beer looks and smells good and is an interesting experience, but I'm not fan. I like gin but I don't like gin taste in my beer. I give them props for trying something unique but I wouldn't drink it again.

Consumed May 11th, 2012 at The Abita Brewpub, Abita Springs, LA.
Clear golden-brown beer with nearly no head.
Subtle peppery aroma.
Flavor starts with unexpectedly sweet caramel malt and a touch of honey. The finish is marked by strong peppery hops that leave a thin, uniform carpet of bitterness behind.
Well-carbonated and lively in the mouth.
Interesting take on the IPA.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a Delirium Tulip (beer certainly didnt warrant such a nice glass btw). But I digress, read on:
A - minimal head from a vigorous pour. No lacing or collaring evident. Clear light orange color.
S - very light on the nose. hints of orange, faint other citrus notes. almost no perceptible hopiness.
T - same underwhelming taste as the nose. citrus is even fainter here with almost no linger. finishes clean only because it didnt have anything in the front. There is a maltiness and mild sweetness that while not cloying is unwelcome with the absence of other moderating flavors.
M - Finishes clean, but there is some uneeded sweetness that clings.
O - Maybe the bottle is old, but I didnt detect any hints of a "bad" bottle. For those looking for a quality IPA, look elsewhere. Brings nothing to the game anyone looking for an IPA would be expecting. A poor representation of the style and one that I MIGHT try if on tap fresh...if it were bought for me.
