Abita Bock is brewed with pale, pilsner, and caramel malts and German Perle hops. Our bock is similar to German maibocks with its rich malt flavor and full body. A perfect choice during Carnival season in New Orleans.

Poured into a Sam Adams perfect pint glass
Appearance: high carbonation, 1/4 inch head that goes quickly, orange/brown in color, hazy
Smell: toasted caramel malt and brown sugar--very sweet smelling
Taste: toasted malt and brown sugar with small hops in the background
Mouthfeel: very sweet with a slightly bitter backbone, high carbonation, light body
Overall: A solid maibock. Not overly interesting but not really flawed either. I could have several on a hot day, but there are several other Abita offerings I would hit up first.

Loved it! It's elegant for a maibock, with its refined Pilsner and caramel maltiness. 5 stars all around.

Good look but nothing else. Tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios. Like they are trying to be slightly better than the larger brewers like Budweiser or coors that taste like cheerios without the honey nut. Also kinda reminding me on how poorly the Baltimore Ravens are playing football against the chiefs. You think something’s gonna happen but it doesn’t.

Ok, if you're under 40 or 50 years old and trying a Maibock style for the first time, you might not appreciate the Abita's effort here. This is how many a Maibock beers tasted "back in the day."
Nice deep copper color. Smells like a brewery the minute you pop the cap off!
Cookie dough and caramel fills the immediate vicinity (not an exageration) and the beer pours spot on with a fairly solid head of a light tan color.
Taste is all malt at first, maybe even a tad bit of fig and raisin flavors, then a slight grass and citrus flavor comes in... but lightly so. Not so much a bitterness from the hops, but moreso a light flavor as described.
If you are planning on sitting down and knocking back a few brewskis, this may not be the right choice, as besides being high in alcohol (6.5) it is also fairly filling. But again, that's the way a Maibock was meant to be... a beer to be savored and to be a real treat! Best of the domestic produced Maibock style in my opinion.

This smells and tastes like if Keira Knightley mashed malt, molasses, and Perle hops with her feet

Look: It pours dark amber with an off white head. Head retention is very good.
Smell: It has fruity flavors up front with a bit of grainy ssweetness.
Taste: It has grainy sweet flavors with molasses like flavors. It is also a bit grainy.
Feel: I had a medium full body.
Overall, the flavors for a bock and interesting, but not my cup of tea.

This brew pours well into the glass, with a nice thick long lasting head over a clear copper color. Definite caramel in the nose. Caramel leads in the mouth, along with sweetish malts. Not sure how it qualifies as a Maibock as it is a bit too dark to look at for that.

Surprised this is ranked so low. This is an amazing beer. Taste is amazing. Looks beautiful. Smooth, and tasty!

12oz bottle into a pint glass. This years release, so likely 3-4 months old.
Nice copper body, small white head. Good sweet malty aroma which carries over to the taste. Clean smooth finish.

Similar to German maibocks with its rich malt flavor and full body. It's sweet for a bock, but I'm a "malt" guy.
I prefer malt over hops. A slight toasted or nutty flavor. Pours a nice head, which adds to the beautiful color.
If you like your bocks to remind you of what they USED to taste like back in the day, this one's a keeper.

12 oz bottle
Glass: Tulip Snifter
Temp: 48-54 F
ABV: 6.5%
Look:
Deep, rich copper color with a 2+ finger foamy off-white to light beige head. The head stays for a _long_ time. When the head does start to dissolve, it leave quite good lacing behind.
Smell:
Sweet and malty. Caramel and toffee with a good dose of bready malts. Some fruitiness. Very mild notes of hay and even a touch of earth.
Taste:
Starts off with toasted bready malts and melanoidin. These are quickly met by a surprisingly firm earthy bitterness that is a touch spicy. The bitterness is not overpowering but it is definitely noticeable. The sip dries out quite a bit but still finishes off-dry and more than a bit malty.
Feel:
Almost clean but a tad slick and maybe touch syrupy. The body is medium-light.
Overall:
An OK bock. Not sure if it fits the Maibock profile (maybe it does?) but a credible effort nonetheless. Definitely better than other Abita Bocks that I have tried, which tend to be much too sweet for my palette.

Brown in color with a quarter inch of densely packed creamy brown on top. Light, soapy lacing. There’s a lightly nutty aroma. I’m tasting chestnuts a lightly bready malt. The mouth is dense and bold.

Bottle dated 22335, December 1, 2022. Pokal glass.
A: pours a deep reddish crystal clear amber with two fingers of foamy off-white head that fades to a thin skin of foam on top. Sheets of lacing.a little darker than to style.
S: getting some mild sweetness, a little toffee, fruitiness. A little more cherry and toffee as it warms, but this is No barleywine.
T: arrives off-dry on the palate, some of those melanoidins coming through, transitions to a mild sweetness, followed by a firm noble hop bitterness. Not strong or overpowering by any means, but hoppier than I expected. A little alcohol, but it might be the noble hops. Perhaps a little more melanoidins than to style.
M: heavier end of midweight. Quite well attenuated. Definitely a lager, through and through. Finishes clean.
O: I don’t get the low ratings for this. Must be hate for the style. The only other Maibock I’ve reviewed is Dead Guy, and this seems cleaner and hoppier. All told, a perfectly executed strong amber lager. I could see this in my fridge six months out of the year.
