taste is balanced between light hops and sweet caramel malts

I enjoyed this beer and is brewed right down the street from me. Enjoyed the 6 pack in two sittings and enjoyed the brew.

Pale golden/amber depending on how light hits it, gently active, thin white head stays briefly then fades to a film and leaves more than patchy lacing.

Pale malt graininess followed by some crystal caramel sweetness. Not much else. I can feel a wee whisp of booze. Not bad for such a small beer.

Pale grainy, like the nose, and again with the crystal sweetness kicking in next. Maybe some of what seems like crystal to me is a German yeast? Not sure. It's hard to put a finger on, but I can sense the gentle earthy German hops. Not much else going on. Not bad, but not great or memorable.

Adequate carbonation, thinner than medium body.

For a small beer, it has some flavor and something moving in the direction of complexity. But it is far from desirable. It was part of a "mystery case" at Rob's World of Beers in Wichita, one of the best beer retail stores I have ever visited.

A – Very nice if somewhat pale coloration, a pale yellow-orange with a white head that rises up rather high but recedes very quickly. Not bad looking but not very good looking, the head really recedes quickly.

S – The nose is very weak but it has a steely caramel in the nose, with some bread and a light nuttiness and earthy quality. Very light though, surprisingly light. But not bad in reality.

T – The nutty element comes to the foreground here, with a toasted bready aftertaste, there is more of a steely element here as well, some sweetness and a very slight hops flavor as well. As before though, it is all extremely light. Not flavorless per se, but still, extremely light.

M – The mouthfeel is light to medium, on the lighter side certainly though, with pretty good carbonation.

O – Can I use the world light anymore? This beer is just really pretty underwhelming, mild and not a great Oktoberfest. I probably won’t pick this one up again, but I would drink it if offered to me. Not bad, not good. Very average. And very…light.

Pours a transparent amber color. White bubbly foamy head dissipates quickly to a very thin white layer, and then is gone. No lacing.

Smells of malt and sweet caramel. Some hints of grass and perhaps some faint roasted notes. Overall, very faint.

Taste is malt sweetness, with some sweet caramel in the finish. Some roasted notes and a little bit of spice and friut.

Mouthfeel is a little thin. A little carbonation in a dry finish.

This is a good example of a Marzen. I prefer it to Sam Adams O-fest.

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

Getting down to my last few Oktoberfests here... This one pours a clear sunrise amber topped by a finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises toffee, grass, greens, and stale biscuits. The taste brings in more of the same, though the grass really tries to take over the whole operation, lending a strong chlorophyll-y bitterness to the proceedings. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a fluid feel. Overall, a decent O-Fest, but one that just doesn't balance itself all that well.

Appearance - Pours golden orange with a white, finger width head. Average retention. Leaves behind a small, spotty lace without much stick.

Smell - Notes are distinctly octoberfest; hints at caramel, toffee, a bit of grain and a touch of grass.

Taste - Begins with a lot of grain malt character, and an underlying caramel and toffee sweetness. A faint bit of bitterness catches on in the back end. Finish comes swift, leaving the overall profile feeling a bit shallow.

Mouthfeel - Light in body, with a good amount of carbonation. Tickles the tongue. Goes down smooth and easy.

Overall - A light, easy drinking Oktoberfest brew that's a bit too wimpy in flavor for my liking; watery at times. Not bad, but there are other oktoberfests that are far better. Will not buy again.
